  • yeh hes great but hes going to ruin him self for been so fn depressing

  • somebody that I used to know is one of the best the songs i ever heard so far.. right now it turned out that it was not the best song of Gotye. Now music is good again :)

  • I thought also abt Sting and Peter Gabriel when I heard first time Somebody I used to know... Big LIKE for Gotye!!! And this song is perfect!!!

  • Extraaa ;D

    polacy łapkę w góre xD

  • 36 and Sting and Peter Gabriel are a major part of my formative years. I -3 this guy.

  • I'm 312 years old and I LOVE THIS.

  • All the Gotye discoveries on comments here mirror my own. I saw Somebody that I used to know, on a youtube list and thought it looked interesting. It blew me away and it is in my head all the time. As is Hearts a mess, Don't worry I'll be watching you. His music is like a breath of fresh air and his artistic talents are amazing. I too am hooked and I am 56!

  • @parrotchops Yep! Those are my three favorites of the moment too! I like his lighter, faster kind of style, but something about that dark and slow music always gets me. Cheers!

  • The song is hypnotic. I get a body rush.....from just about every Gotye song I hear. Just like snowflakes...no two alike. 8D

  • Suppeeee music

  • I cannot get over this song. Repeat, all day.

  • No offense, but the album version sucks!

Wally was probably influenced by Depeche Mode's "Can you feel a little love" when he recorded it and that's a real shame.

The should've been album version is this one: v=wcI3QgfnXz0

I've been replaying it all day long (discovered it yesterday afternoon) and I still can't get enough.

  • @gmolition I meant, Depeche Mode's "Dream On", of course

  • @gmolition Thanks, that is one of the first links posted in a comments section that I have actually found to be worth visiting. The song is better with emotion in his voice, though frankly I find this version to be okay and not sucky.

  • @gmolition You're right, the live version is way better. The music almost swallows him up on this track.

  • this picture of the girl breaths with this music

  • the brilliance of gotye makes me believe in Muses again

  • 240p like a boss... crappy quality, and Gotye still sounds amazing.

  • Sorry for the 25 dislikers .... neighbours ;)

  • beethovens ears were full of jizz

  • @zenburger from his ears to your mouth baby.

  • Sorry i was wrong !!

  • This song is called "Seven hours with a backseat driver" not "The only thing I know"

  • I heard 'Somebody That I Used To Know' about a week ago on Facebook...turned out to be a cover of that song, because I heard the real one on the radio.... Then I went on Youtube and fell in love! I am officially blown away! I am 54 years old, and his music takes me back to the days of Sting, Peter Gabriel, Go..... so innovative and fresh and different... I have to go...There are more unheard songs to play.... =D

  • @jrhennen This guy single-handidly just restored my faith in the youth. That video is so viral now because the kids WANT real music. I feel so fucking bad for the current bubble gum generation, and happy as hell for them that they're finding their way back to the rest of us thanks to the internet.

  • @j0phus I think "the kids" of whatever generation will always fall for the soulless mass-produced bubblegum at first, thanks to peer pressure and the power of mass media (don't forget that "Big Music" has a fairly in-your-face presence on the net these days too)... but all we can hope is that as they grow up and start to think for themselves, they are inevitably drawn to what was missing in the pop crap of their youth... REAL music, with SOUL... true artistic expression à la Gotye!

  • Comment removed

  • @jrhennen It's like you took the words right out of my mouth! Very refreshing indeed!

  • @jrhennen His music is fantastic. I've always been a fan of Sting, The first song by Gotye I heard was about two years back it was... "Coming Back" I believe so, ever since I've been hooked and his new stuff is just as amazing as the material I came to love.

  • @jrhennen Yes! I am in my 20's and Gabriel was before my time but when I discovered Gotye I said, "Peter Gabriel for our generation!". I didn't think anyone else would see the similarities but guess I'm just an old soul. lol When you throw the name "sting" in there, it really does describe the music well! Good to know you old fogies are enjoying him too. ;) lol

  • @jrhennen i`m 14 years old, but i think he music is awesome! I wrote down all song names and now listen them all! :)

  • @jrhennen is that u mum

  • lol to dick and a hairbrush comment. he is a good artist but you cant compare to beethoven

  • As a huge Classic music fan ( no i'm not feeding you bullshit ) i found the conversation about Beethover totally pointless , it's like comparing a dick with a hairbrush

  • @RoyalSlaughter You're not female are you? Turns out there are a few similarities.

  • beethoven cant sing worth a load of crap....juss sayin

  • @PeytonBay1 He can't play either, or much of anything since he's been dead for hundreds of years!

  • really special

  • I know this from something... was it a soundtrack from a movie maybe ? or anything ?

    or am I delerious ?

  • @markedLS the girl with the dragon tattoo maybe

  • Really sounds like Depeche Mode

  • amazing song! i love it! :)

  • fucking beautiful. :')

  • Nádhera. Skvělé a úžasné. Škoda, že nevidím zpěváka.

  • I love this!

  • I'm liking every song on this playlist. Literally. Let's all do it. I don't care if this goes mainstream, because this is good music.

  • this man i pretty amazing

  • Love, love this! <3

  • I wish all of the songs had the same volume. In sequence I have to keep adjusting the volume...

  • @Pantzless You need a stereo compressor.

  • sounds like depeche mode

  • legenda!

  • Unusual....

  • Why isn't this music nor any of his old albums mentioned on his official page? It's almost like a a really good chocolate hidden away when you have that really strong urge for something sweet, love it.

  • @WeroChan Boardface

  • i obsessed with this song, it's so perfect

  • @LuzniakooS now, because i've seen your top comment, i have to find speakstrange's comment ... :D

    watch?v=_U5XbZahotg

  • @MrStevesurf gotye aint a band lol

  • polacy przejmują ten filmik

  • super utwór!!! rewelacja!!

  • also ich find nur somebody i used to know gut. das ist doch kacke :)

  • @nanschi1 dann hast du keine ahnung Oo

  • Not only The Cure, i think is a mixure of U2, depeche mode, i like it.

  • @djunamgb and joy division

  • I assume this is the original version on Boardface. There's another version on the European release of Like Drawing Blood, which is slightly different and better imo:

    watch?v=_U5XbZahotg

  • my new favourite band

  • Absolute one of my all time faves..the lyrics are amazing. 'I'm living with your memory in the attic in my mind, you've been getting by without me but I've been spending all my time..' gorgeous!

  • hahaha i like the little chacha at the end

  • @straub11 Yeah, he lets us hear how a sample is used

  • This is seriously like a trip. I like it.

  • This song is amazing, but I love his live version better. His voice there is sooo beautiful

  • @MsCharlotte222 link? :)

  • just fantastic....

  • I was thinking that only Icelanders can make such genius music, and that only Icelanders can make music that makes me feel happy.

    I was wrong <3

(If you don't know Jónsi and Sigur Rós, you have to try it too ;D)

  • @MsEscape666 he was born in the Netherlands and he makes this all cuts at home in Australia, wher he was raised yes a artistic mind ..

  • @MsEscape666 @amagedon58

    He's Belgian-Australian (not Dutch :-)).

Sigur Rós is brilliant, I agree!

There are also Belgian groups with similar music: try Ozark Henry, Amatorski and Hooverphonic (especially their early songs, like 2 Wicky and Inhaler).

  • I am taken away to pleasant place with this music. That's rare to find in music today.

  • Shame, Shame Australia ARIA awards, this bloke should have won everything hands down. His music and video clips are at the pinnacle of world music. We have found our own Beethoven of the new millenium.........

  • @MrDazcuz Beethoven? Are you sure you're not overreacting? :-)

  • @ElegantNudibranch beethoven was just a great musician, not a god. Gotye is a great musician too :)

  • @kochammata 'beethoven was just a great musician' your comment is full of shit, honestly.

  • @ElegantNudibranch Lol I actually dont think he/she is.

  • @ElegantNudibranch What, maybe Bach? Mozart? Tchaikovsky? But definitely not Beethoven. (j/k)

  • @MrDazcuz Funny comparison: Van Beethoven was from flemish descendence too!

  • @thelocdog42 Idiot!

  • Absolutely phenomenal Artist!

    thanks for the sharin 'couroskom'

    ;)

  • amazed by this artist and so psyched that he's playing COACHELLA!

  • one word - perfect.

  • lol

  • @ExperiPuer

    SO IS YOUR TASTE HAHAHAHAHAH

    Fag.

  • @Karsenlovee The word 'fag' can be insulting for homosexuals, please don't use it.

  • Amazing, along the lines of the most convincing sounds of, say Cure and still innovative, overdosing on the stuff . .

  • Das Foto ist einfach nur wunderschön!

  • Love the creativity of this artist so deep

  • genial

  • Where did you find the photograph? It goes so well with the song! As if it was made only for this purpose :)

  • He sounds like Maynard (singe of Tool) sometimes, especially in this song.

  • This is.... so good!

  • a feel good rush through my head

  • 13 leute haben ihren monitor falschrum stehen :D

  • @TheDustyRavage

Das nennt man das "Chris Cross" Phänomen...;-)

  • how many ideas this man has?

  • Throughout this whole song I was like who the fuck is having sex with my ears!!?

  • music made by gotye got-ya

  • I dislike 10 people

  • This song would be great on Vampire Diaries

  • Best 8 minutes of my life... took the extra 45 seconds to get back from the trip.

  • I know melody from beginning, but I don't know where I heard it earlier... Do somebody know? Is he cull it form the other song? By the way... thsi song is magic!! He's great

  • This song sounds so much like something The Cure would make.

  • @noisyrag2 Definitely sampling from "Go On Go On"

  • @noisyrag2 your so right .. love the cure .. but give credit to these dudes xxx

  • his sound reminds me of Portishead...great stuff :)

  • Amen...

  • music remains my to '' the cure '' i like it ..ty maggie ;-)

  • The most epic music i've ever heard! <3

  • I want that picture!

  • AaAaAaaah..AaAaAaah <3

  • ok is it me or are there actually skips in this from halfway thru to end?

  • GOTYE <3

  • the only real problem i have is the instrumental in the beginning is way too long. This man is a musical genius (assuming he writes his own music) but a 1.5 minute wait for the very overly-consistant intro to end is a bit much =/

  • @TheFryedman agreed

  • @TheFryedman I agree, his music is amazing and he's good live too, but the intro on this song is too long.

  • @carkees1 a good song can NEVER be too long. re-think your life, man...

  • @carkees1 haha dude 1:30 is nothing for an intro, what exactly do you listen to?

  • @MegaManOLantern;@grizzay I am a woman and listen to everything I like!

  • @carkees1 gl listening to ur aids test

  • @TheFryedman ever heard of the song "stairway to heaven"? this is the best song ever written, and its intro is about 4 minutes long. i'd say: the longer the intro the better the song (as long as it's written by musical geniuses)!

  • @Kickass4248 If you like long intros you should check out The Cure - Trust (HQ)

  • @BlueUlylisses Seriously long intros!

  • starts sort of u2'e, then gets its groove on for itself, nice :D

  • His neck/face look like a totem pole, in which the hair makes the "engravings"

  • The Cure

  • rewelacja c'nie?

  • @fiatemWswiat zgadzam się

  • Aparentemente Gotye tiene mucho que ofrecer! Love it!

  • Most people only know gotye for his sing "Somebody that i used to know" But there is alot more to him

  • @MrAwesomo1111 hearts a mess is one of my all time favourite songs

  • Nice tribute to Depeche Mode. Check 'em out, you youngsters. :)

  • @rapmaster yeah gotye tends to do that a lot; copy and approximate entire genres within single songs (e.g. 'Learnalilgivinanlovin' and 'I Feel Better' are copies of the Motown genre, Track 2 of his new album Making Mirrors is an ironic projection of exactly what he does (the song is about programming music rather than creating it, i.e. what he does). But, some songs are the most memorable I've heard, i.e. Puzzle (ENS Remix). Go figure?

  • most of his songs are raw and real.. that's why I dig his music so much.. none of that poser macho clubbin gansta pro shit.

  • I just listened to this song for the first time 30 mins. ago, and I've been addicted. I was a bit gloomy when I got here, but now I feel a bit more at ease. This song is magic.

  • 0 dislikes. -Fistpumps to various Gotye songs-

  • so, was just introduced to gotye-- pretty damn outrageous. US is not known for international musical presence, but he will blow up here.

    late comer, but quite impressed!

  • @totallunacy Same here (courtesy of my cousin a few weeks ago). Everyone I've since introduced him to is addicted as well. An amazing artist!

  • Golden

  • mmm maybe I'm showing my age - but echos of NIN here. Love it.

  • Gotye is truly some new inspiration for a poor soul who just discovered his song somebody that i used to know this afternoon. Feel imbaressed couse he is a great artist. Greetings norway

  • He is a musical genius! I Have loved Gotye from the minute I heard him in high school. He has inspired so many moments in my life and music. He truly is an inspiration! Wally DeBacker, I love you! Soooo proud to be an Aussie :)

  • The live version is so good! He's even better live!

  • Awesome music, brilliant how he does it all himself and puts it together.. Absoluetly awesome.... Will always listen to Gotye.

  • gotye gotye gotye you are a musical genius , I had never heard of you until youre somebody that i use to know came on the radio , then i was hooked , wear were you hiding , or where was i hiding , lol , amazing song , all youre musics amazing cant wait to see you live this year ,,, check out the live version of this song on here jtv filmed it its better live , lol yes its possible enjoy ...

  • To all you rappers and autotune-dependant artists out there, take note... THIS (and all other Gotye songs) is what real musical talent sounds like.

  • @bryann381 To say rapping does not require musical talent is ignorant. Regardless of whether it's your cup of tea, it still requires talent. Just because it may not be your cup of tea, doesn't mean its not music. Same with Dub. Don't stereotype all rap or dub the same. Lil Wayne is not the same as George Watsky. Skrillex is not the same as every other Kid with a Mac.
