Marina is in Northern California near the city of Monterey. The highest dune is only 150ft. It's best not to even try soaring unless the winds are 15 mph or more. Winds less than 15 mph require expert experience.
This is a ridge soaring site and you can only fly as high as the lift band created by the deflected wind against the dunes. Some of the flying is done very low and fast just for fun.
Almost no thermals near the ocean because the air is stable and the water is evenly heated. Thermals can take you to the legal altitude limit of 17,999 feet. Many pilots have been this high in the desert and mountain regions of the US. You will need oxygen!
That is a very cool setup that you have. I have never seen anyone flying a rigid wing from recumbent position with a stick !

hi Steve
Amazing video in high quality.
Where is Marina?
I would try it with my Swift.

How high does it go? Could you have gone higher? It looks like you were trying to keep that altitude.

So you'd need a thermal to go higher? Are there any so near the sea? How high does that Mill go?

The glider is a Bright Star Millennium. First produced in 1999, no longer in production.

Very cool !
Say, I was wondering...since you take off and land with your feet, what is the aft wheel for? Thanks.

If you decide you don't want to land on your feet you can use the wheel and the front skid as landing gear. These also come in handy for aero-towing.
Thanks,
Steve
