  • I'd love to know how to do that. LoL I like when they rear, they look so powerful!

  • This is a great video and this is really kewl thicks but that doesn't even look like THE Secretariat. I know Big Reds been dead for 20 years but he just doesn't look anything like THE big Red. These tricks are kewl but maybe you should work aa bit more on breeding your horses......

  • @HorseyFriends

He doesn't have to look like THE Secretariat. He just has to be a chestnut and makeup and everything else can do the trick. Besides, they'd probably us this horse for bits and pieces. Say if Big Red reared, then they'd probably get some fake white on him and use him quickly during his rear. The tricks of the movie world are endless.

  • @BLiSSFULxFiLLY hmm.... I never knew that.... Thank you :)

  • @HorseyFriends

Lol, look real closely at some horse movies. I think a War Horse is a great example. They had some white on the horse and you could tell it was pretty fake. But anywho, for the Secretariat movie, they probably had about 10 to 15 different Secretariats that were all used for one thing or another. It's actually pretty neat to learn about :]

  • @BLiSSFULxFiLLY wow, they all look that same!! This is really kewl to learn about!!

  • So far i have only taught my 18 year old gelding how to jump, stomp the ground, kiss, and hug. He is very athletic for his age and he loves doing them with me. He mostly does it on his own than looks at me for a treat even when im riding him. . And why did he let that paint lay on the ground! he was so pretty untilthan. xD

  • Beautiful video - I just love seeing good horsemanship! but misleading/oversimplified title.

  • Very, very impressive!!!

  • @cowgirlatheart85 My old pony was capable of some tricks- and he was extremely happy when doing them too. This is just a sample of what SOME horses can do. Not all are right for this. Think of dressage. Is the passage and piaffle tricks? Pretty much. Is jumping a trick? Yes. Is going round barrels a trick? Yep. Tricks are whatever a horse would not usually do in the wild. Horses would do these things in the video in the wild. Think.

  • @arabianhorsemist4lps I don't think any bit of handling with horses is stupid. I do barrels, jumpers, reining, and eventing. The person who wrote that comment, whom I didn't even know did so, was my little brother, who doesn't ride. I'm sorry for the inncident. I erased it. And what do you mean about "Think"?

  • prettyponybaby2007-I know. I used to work in two different movie studios,in Hollywood,so I know they use differint horses in a film.Still,Viggo did buy the main Hidalgo horse.

  • HardyButtons02 -problem is that if you arent looking for horses just using Screen names, and you ARE looking for the real thing,it can get annoying. The video shouldnt be named this way,..as it is kinda misleading. :)

  • It's awesome to see what horses are capable of. He has great horsemanship.

  • Comment removed

  • @cowgirlatheart85 oh my lord go hug a tree or something. Horses are capable of most anything and just like with any other discipline horses love their jobs! Would you say that dressage, reining, or trail, barrels or jumpers is stupid as well? basically its the same principle.. horsemanship.

This is brilliant! this guy is really good! what horsemanship he has!

  • @aqhcountrygirl2012 For one I'm sensing a little bit of rudeness coming from you. If not I apoligize. But I don't think any bit of handling with horses is stupid. I do barrels, jumpers, reining, and eventing. The person who wrote that comment, whom I didn't even know did so, was my little brother, who doesn't ride. I'm sorry for the inncident. I'll try to find it and erase it.

  • I am not sure what the music is

  • these horses portrayed Secretariat and Hidalgo, they are actors, so calm down

  • What is the music used here, it reminds me of Frankie Carle, my dad liked him.

  • Secretariat has been dead for a long time now,so this is fake. Not sayin it isnt a nice video. Also,Viggo Mortensen bought the original horse from Hidalgo when they were finished filming,so that isnt him either. Just one paint, and a Sorrel. Ok,....

  • @ChimeraAZ In order to make the movies, they cast one main horse for multiple different scenes. However, for those scenes the main horse cannot do, it is for that reason they bring in multiple and paint them to look like the main horse

  • @ChimeraAZ It's the horses screen names, not the actual horses themselves.

  • Wow the paint is beautiful, Iver never seen any horse like it :D

  • I have a paint mare who looks nearly identical to RJ(Hildago), except she's got a bit more white.

  • That Paint is BEAUTIFUL!

  • I want him to train my hose :P

  • OmG!!!! Amazing...did he trained seabiscuit in the newest movie?? O.o

  • This is good!

  • are these the real horses that were in the movies?

  • Wow thats amazing

  • Comment removed

  • The point is that he's demonstrating some of the training techniques to achieve the required behavior. I certainly don't believe that lexington17 intended to imply this was either horse. What caught my attention is that he's in Amenia, NY - my grandparents, uncle and cousins live not far from there - had no idea. And he is amazing....if you truly understand horses, he's achieving things that are completely unnatural for them.

  • It's amazing to see the signs and responces from the horses, very well trained that's for sure.

  • Uh, sue6674, Secretariat is gone! This is the horse that played him in the movie. One of around three! Hildago was shot with 3 different horses depending on particular skills. Come back to the real world!

  • @MsShoosh1 y was Hidalgo shot? And what other three horses?

  • @thebarrelbaby1 I didn't mean Hildago was shot in that sense. When they made the movie, three different horses played the part of Hildago. Not unusual. They will pick horses with particular tricks, and depending on the scene will film that horse. They horses will all end up looking the same in the film. Some can be coloured, but I think airbrushing will be used.

  • Forgive me, but is that snow falling? I was thinking that it was white flies at first.

  • It's amazing what we can train these animals to do. Does anyone know of a good method or trainer who explains how to teach a horse to lie down?

  • These are the horses for the movies, all this video is real I've seen Rex with his horses he's amazing

  • that is not really secretariat secretariat has 2 back sockets and 1 on his right side foot i repeat HIS RIGHT NOT UR RIGHT so this is so fake

  • @sue6674 UH if you read the description youll find out its his stunt double for the movie so yeah I guess your right it s fake

  • @sue6674 its one of the three horses in secretariat movie

  • @sue6674 Secretariat died 22 years ago (will be 23 in October). Of course it's fake! -_-

  • @sue6674 No shit Sherlock -_-

  • @sue6674 Um DUH! One, this is a TRICK horse. Trained to play movie parts. and 2 the REAL Big red has been dead for quite some time now. So obviously this can not be him. You can paint on a horse to make it look like the one it is playing as.

  • Medicine hat Overo, the medicine hats, true ones, are supposed to have the neck shield. Although doesn't look like h e has the blue eyes like a true one.

  • @Tylenahawk Medicine hats do not have to have blue eyes.

  • I believe this was Pilgrim from the horse Whisperer

  • There horse paint to make markings for movies and etc.....

  • Um, sorry to burst your bubble. But that is NOT Secretariat OR Hidalgo. Everyone knows a simple fact from Secretariat that he has 3 white socks, a stripe, and to me, that horse looks like some type of Warmblood. Hidalgo also is a Tobiano Pinto overo with a bald face. This horse has one brown ring on his left eye. Also, Hidalgo was set free in Okalhoma with his herd. So theres no possible way you could have caught him. These 2 horses also look like geldings. Not stallions.

  • @416tayjay ... you're an idiot.

  • @416tayjay ...are you stupid?

  • Comment removed

  • @416tayjay I understand you're young but... the horses in this video are the actors for the movie roles. Secretariat has been dead for over twenty years, Hidalgo isn't even verified to be real as Frank Hopkins was known for tall tales.

On another note, you can't typically tell the difference between stallions and geldings at a glance. I would heartily suggest you spend a few more years with horses before trying to correct people on them.

  • @jeveuxlesoleil Im just saying, Secretariat had a STRIPE and 3 WHITE SOCKS! This horse, witch you mentioned as Secretariat, has a star and 1 sock. No offense, but, you might need to look back in the story and see what everyone else thinks

  • @416tayjay

Not to burst your bubble, and this may come as a surprise to you, but horses used in movies are not the 'actual' horse that they're referring to generally. That is, with movies based off of horses that existed in real life. Hidalgo wasn't actually set free in Oklahoma with a herd, though they did stage that to make it appear as though he was set free. It's what they do in the movie world. Make it look real. Also, as someone mentioned earlier, they used horse paint on both

  • @TouzokuKami Okay, this is none of your buisness, okay sweetie? Please do not get into this conversation!

  • @416tayjay

Then don't have a private discussion on a public website like youtube if you do not want other people taking part in it. Also, considering that I'm probably twice your age I don't think your attempt of being condescending really works. Welcome to the land of online trolling. Good luck with your private discussion.

  • i have never seen an overo with such a pretty pattern. and is that chestnut high tower?

  • that isnt him.............

  • Amazing horse training video. Magnificent specimens. Too bad there are so many little kids in here who can't figure out that the horse in the video is NOT Secretariat or Hidalgo. Remember a simple "Secretariat" fact": He had THREE socks (left front leg had no sock), and he had a trailing diamond on his forehead. He stood 16.2 hands tall and weighed about 1175 pounds during his racing career. Secretariat was, without a doubt, the BEST racehorse to ever live.

  • Viggo also bought the horse who played Hidalgo.

  • pause at 0:47 its really funny. and ya, thats not him... is that the real hidalgo tho?

  • fucking bullshit!

  • That is nether of them two this video sucks

  • Hidalgo win

  • Not Secretariat lol

  • @123Secretariat This horse was for the movie duhh

  • @loveshorses101 Yeah I know now sheesh don't be snobby about it :o

  • Thts not Secretariat

  • Comment removed

  • did he actually bury it alive?so it died?

  • @ncistiva3 yeah because he'll bury a horse alive and let it die.

  • Amazing!

  • I need to contact Rex. I know of a horse, Fire, who would be an amazing trick horse. He is smarter and has more character than any horse I've ever seen. He doesn't mind being handled and has great manners. He's also VERY flashy. Anyone know his email? THIS IS NOT A SCAM.

  • That doesnt look like Secreatriot... but BEAUTIFUL horses!!!

  • That doesnt look like Secreatriot...

  • Nice horses. Hated the "music".........

  • imposible the real hildago and secertait.?.

  • @cswartzendruber

The horse wo played Hidalgo and the horse who played Secretariat in the movie. Both great movies.

  • they are both VeryVERY VERY BEAUTIFUL!!

  • When you say he "buried a horse alive for a music video" what do you mean? And what is the music video called?

  • I would love to do that with my horse... :-)

  • I begged my Parisian spouse to love horses and to ride and he always refused. When he finally agreed to learn, on Camargue horses for our trip to Iceland, I swear after lesson 3 the guy rode like a pro jockey, and I was insane with jealousy. Horses and stray cats just adore him. This is a fantastic video, uprated and shared. Oh, my apartment is paid for on horse bettings, KISSIN KRIS and MY MEMOIRS. Long live Secretariat in spirit, and Riva Ridge! And B Be Bee, a mudder! xo

  • It's like he's messing around with a big dog or something! I'm impressed, he makes it look so easy! :D

  • Think she would like a belly rub, when she is on her side...lol...so adorable

  • I'm speechless.....amazing, heart warming, incredible ,I loved watching that... my dog can't even do those tricks...:>).....love the music.....:>)

  • REX! YOU'RE AWESOME!

  • WOW!!! Impressive, wish I knew how to train horses like that.

  • That's SO cool!!!!

  • @PlXELDOLL He's one of the horses who played Secretariat in the movie, I believe:)

  • ok for one secretariat had 3 white legs that looked like he was wareing socks, for two secretariat couldnt do that kind of training at his age.

  • @NgSHQ There were actually several different horses that played Secretariat in the movie. What they actually did was find horses that had the same body color, and painted the markings to match those of the horse they were portraying. It's a trick quite often used in filming horses. They wear make-up just like human actors.

  • I thought the main horse that was taken for Hidalgo, "TJ" was bought by Viggo? This must be one of the 4 others used for the filming, no? And to others complaining "this isn't Hidalgo, this isn't Secretariat, because the colour/marking etc." are you that silly? You know, in Hollywood makeup and dye isn't just for actors... it is for the animal actors too! (They use it to get the right colour/markings because they often use more than one "horse actor" for a single "character horse").

  • @XxemoxqueenxX Viggo bought Uraeus, who played Brego in LOTR. I believe he may have also bought Kenny, who was another of the horses he regularly rode in the same movies. :)

  • @XxemoxqueenxX There should be an *as well as...* in my reply, duhhhh... Lol.

  • I dont think thats hidalgo hes mostly white hidalgo is mostly brown

  • that brown horse is not secretariet cuz he has three socks that faker has one :)

  • at 2:14 its like he or she is sayin ok can i get off now

  • at 2:06 ita like he is saying is this good ...

  • I'm sorry for getting way off topic, but doesn't it sound like someone is blowing their nicely tuned nose???

  • How I would love to work with horses the way he does, especially with two very handsome horses such as these :) And people who get upset when they see trainers using whips with horses need to think first before lashing out with their personal opinions. If you are familiar with equine body language, you will see the horses show no signs of pain, discomfort, or fear. The horses are very focused and attentive of their trainer, and that comes from a mutual understanding built upon respect and trust.

  • He should take off his coat and lend it to the horse.

  • @afleetalex05 WHY THE HORSE MOST LICKLY HAS HIS WINTER COAT

  • I once saw a clip on Turner Classic Movies showing a bit of the horse training for Ben Hur. It was incredible, brilliant work. See if you can find it; it's out there somewhere.

  • no +p, just a lot of pressure, yeah he's accomplished alot is his life, but times are changing and science is changing our understanding od both the equine mind and how learning is achieved by all species. Really would like to see some positive reinforcement!!

  • Da locs

  • @msjumpingqueenful This is the horse they used in the show for him. He played as the fake Secretariat.

  • two beautiful horses

  • wow he must be a good trainer(: my horse could use some of his smartness lol:)

  • The whips r used to train them.I saw it. I was at his farm a month ago. For example he with whip the leg to make him move that leg. It was really cool meeting and feeding them. I also met the horse that will be In a new movie "Lone Ranger"

  • wow *_* thats absolutely great! the horses trust him so much, its unbelievable! Great work!

  • noooo

  • is that really secretariat and hildago

  • @camcam13579 no.... secretariat died of laminitise and thats the horse who played hidalgo.

  • amazing groundwork and training! this horse is so stimulated, he's like the einstein of the herd.

  • If you don't know a crap about a horse, don't comment. The whips don't touch the horses, they snap in air/ on ground to get the horse to run away from the frightening sound.

  • I don't see him whipping the horse. so SETTLE DOWN SETTLE DOWN

  • So sick of people thinking whips are bad. It's a training tool, it's not meant for hitting a horse, it's used to give training signs. You people who are saying otherwise obviously don't know anything about horsemanship so just mind your own business.

  • I met them! I went to him and Cari Swanson, she owns it, their farm on may 21,2011. It was so cool! I met "Hidalgo" and "Secratariat" and Robert Duval's horse Manuel. Manuel is my fav because he is soooo sweet and he followed me. I also met the new ponies. It was so fun!

  • how to build confidence in horses by using whips - not ever to touch the animals, but “as extensions of your hand.”

Just clarifying from a snippet and almost like a rule to natural horsemanship and movie training tactics.

  • The whip is used for sound or a visual aid for the horse. Ge is never actually hit with it. It's a training tool, never used by anyone other than the pro!

  • Cool, but Monty Roberts could have done that with a horse without whipping him.

  • how the heck do you bury a horse alive?

  • woahhh, i want him to traiiinn my horse.!

  • Comment removed

  • whoa, this guy is good!

  • wow pure genius

  • thank you...that was absolutely amazing! :)

  • He's amazing with horses! a true master at training!

  • Comment removed

  • i am in love with 'hidalgo'

  • This is wonderful, just wonderful. What is the music, the piano player, it's so nice to listen to while watching this man with this beautiful creature.
