I think he did a great job with this song, definitely very different but I like it a lot. It's has this mysterious and dark sound to it and I don't think it is a "sexual" sound either. I am a 55-year old straight "classic country" guy. I happened to hear Adam's sound-check in Omaha while paying golf across the street. I had no idea who was singing, but I knew that whoever it was had some serious chops. I love the idea that some of the classic country music is finding its way into contemporary music. Okay I will admit. I was recommended to listen to this song by someone after mentioning I wished that someone could remake a modern version of this song without killing the song. While I was expecting this recommendation to fail hard its actually pretty decent. Its not like the original at all, the feel is completely different but it is not bad.
I loved the way Adam affected Randy "Stick in the Mud" Travis and that thang that was sitting next to Travis in the audience. He puts NONE of the true feelings behind the original version, and his voice is nothing special. It's not telling a story anymore, he's just singing mindlessly w/o continuing the message. And his vocal style is nothing to be proud of either (this coming from a choir kid).

First of all I want to say I think what he did with this song was absolutely retarded and needs to be shot and will probably be shot for it...with that said. This was awesome! Not my style of music at all but it was one of the biggest risk that anyone could take and while I still think it was stupid it was well executed and I'm sure if I like this song because it's good or because of how much I respect what he did... he does belong in Broadway though.

John had to throw all the horns, the extra instruments, etc to fill the song out. Anita just opened her mouth and it came out amazing with her voice and a few quiet instruments. He didnt write, he didnt record it first so it was never HIS song.

I am a 55-year old straight "classic country" guy. I happened to hear Adam's sound-check in Omaha while paying golf across the street. I had no idea who was singing, but I knew that whoever it was had some serious chops. I love the idea that some of the classic country music is finding its way into contemporary music. @mostecri I have to fight the urge to say everything he sings is 'better' than the original. Because the song is so different it can't be compared to the original anymore. The ring of fire by Johnny Cash is a country classic, absolute genius. But adam lambert's version is also genius, but it's not a country interpretation, so how do you compare his songs when they are cross genre? Or so different that it's an entirely 'new' song.

Okay I will admit. I was recommended to listen to this song by someone after mentioning I wished that someone could remake a modern version of this song without killing the song. While I was expecting this recommendation to fail hard its actually pretty decent. Its not like the original at all, the feel is completely different but it is not bad.

I loved the way Adam affected Randy "Stick in the Mud" Travis and that thang that was sitting next to Travis in the audience. Travis is the epitome of a homophobe, but then again I always thought Travis was gay. Cash would have loved this version of his song.
