  • there's just too much colours...

  • Aardwolf FTW.

  • great app review.. how do you get the map of the world to show? is that like automatic?

  • Looks good, I will have to give it a try. Currently using Mudlet, which is great also.

  • Bat is the best MUD ever =D the client is pretty sweet to.

  • I use to play aardwolf. Didn't have time to really get into it though :( If it had a bigger userbase it would be a really great game

  • I wish i could write something like this in c++. To bad I can't concentrate and eventually give up. :(

  • @cryingmushroom47 You can script in LUA with Mudlet and do the same kind of thing this video shows. It's great.. I'm working on mapping, inventory, fighting modules for a mud that is not currently supported. Forget C++, why re-invent the wheel?!

  • whats the music from when you fought the rat?

  • @kardentyrell I think it is a snippet of "Dogma" from Apple's Logic Pro. I used some of the jingles from that to do background music.

  • That was an experimental inventory plugin, but I think Blainer has a working one. Ask in-game on Aardwolf where you can get it.

  • how do i get the inventory plugin?

  • This brings back memories of me playing Aardwolf. I want to go back and play it again! :P

  • Ah, those sounds were from my (own) copy of a well-known MMORPG game. I don't believe I am breaching copyright by using sounds that are already on my hard disk, but I probably shouldn't repackage them for someone else.

The game in question can be downloaded for free (the client, which will have the sounds in it). Then you can use an "extractor" program to get the sounds out of the game files, and put them into whatever folder you want.

  • I just got into Aardwolf, and JUST started using MUSH, and I LOVE IT! The plugins make the game so much more enjoyable, a lot less repeat commands. I have been looking for days for a good sound set without finding anything worth while. Is there any possible way you could zip your sound folder and post it somewhere? Maybe even your trigger config? That do wonders for us trying to get it done quick so we can get back to the game. =)

  • um.i think ill just play dragon age 2, and maybe after i level ill play some Warcraft later. =]

  • @JasonRodzArt Its unfortunate that something as creative as MUDs have been replaced by shitload of Everquest clones, 3D MMOs today ruins the RP in MMORPG

  • The sound files are totally optional. You can run it on a Mac (an Intel Mac) using Wine. There is a description of how to do that on the MUSHclient forum. Try going to the MUSHclient FAQ and then look for FAQ #16. That has a link to how to install on a Mac. If you play Aardwolf (or are prepared to try it) then the pre-configured Aardwolf client (an adaptation of MUSHclient) is set up with a lot of that stuff, like the mapper. See their web site for more details.

  • Whaat? Can you do this on a Mac? I don't have any of those plug-ins, just a black screen with text. I would prefer playing it without the sound files though

  • No, the graphics are built into the client.

  • What is q squid doing in a forest ?

  • what the fuck is this shit?

  • @TheRealAbz An OLD OLD OLD school MMO type game.

  • i like aardwolf :D

  • Those are World of Warcraft sound files, haha.

This is pretty interesting, I've never played a MUD before and I might try one.

I'm fairly young so MUDs were always something that flew over my head until I became older and understood them better.

You don't need graphics and fluid animations to have a great game, you just need a little bit of imagination. =)

  • i remember aardwolf MUD ehehe i love it even though it doesnt have graphics :D

my friends ask me what is that and told me i was hacking or something 0_0

  • ive herd that MUD caused the first addicion D:

  • Those plugins were written a bit earlier and don't have the moving functionality. Post a message on the MUSHclient forum (see video description) suggesting it, and I think you will find it will be done.

  • im not able to move the campaign tracker or quest tracker at all, i have to move other windows that they go over

  • why would someone play this "game"???

  • @whiterastaweed why did you put game in quotes you dumb fuck ?

  • @whiterastaweed

Why wouldn't someone play this game? What do you think makes it bad? Because it's text based? Son... I am disappoint. If you think I'm stupid, let's just say know your meme.

To be honest, I've been disappointed in pretty much every single RPG I've played since I first played a good MUD. Final Fantasy can go to hell compared to bb3(.)betterbox(.)net:9009, AKA Chronicles 2. However, the MUDs are decreasing in numbers because people don't play them enough. Graphic whores.

  • Aardwolf isn't a bad game. I still play it from time to time, it just got boring after a while: Level. Remort. Tier. Repeat.

If you like to MUD and RP, try Atonement RPI. We are currently working on the Beta (Opens approximately 9/15/2010).

  • Amitoune is cooler, and it has an internet client :D

  • MUME is a better mud

  • Ahh I love mudding. I was severely addicted a couple years back but I haven't found one that doesn't leaving feeling 'meh'. Too many where the developers aren't involved, lack of players, elitist groups of players that make life hard for new people...yea.

  • Did you look at the related video: Installing Aardwolf plugins for MUSHclient

  • How did you get to play Aardwolf, it doesn't offer any new character things for me.

  • @Dayntei If you just enter a name that is not in use when it asks "What be thy name, adventurer?", then it offers to make a new character for you.

  • @Jainh872 Thanks but, I found it out already. It actually let me make a character this time.

  • does it work for Alter Aeon

  • I didn't know this was Aardwolf exclusive, that's insanely disappointing.

  • @uBeR1337gUy You can adapt it to other MUDs with a bit of work. We are trying to make this sort of stuff be available for more MUDs by developing generic protocols, but the amount of opposition this is receiving frankly has to be seen to be believed. Honestly.

  • @Jainh872 I hope you're successful, I'd love to have the battle sounds and HP bar especially.

  • @uBeR1337gUy Stuff like the HP bar are easy enough to do for most MUDs. Check out the forum link in the info part of this page. There are a few generic plugins on the forum that you should be able to adapt by modifying your trigger.

  • What the fuck? I've never been able to do this with mine. Cool video, I'll set some of this up later.

  • Ahahaha

  • I'm using MUSHclient for the same game, love it so far. Been playing for a few weeks and can't get enough.

  • Thank you very much for this video. It's nice to see a MUD client fully-featured and used by someone who has obviously been doing this for more than 3 months. :)

  • My god can't wait to set my mush client like that!

  • Hey MUSHclient keeps logging me off when I put in my password how do I fix this?

  • oh my god...

    You're the author of MUSHclient!!!

  • What is your desktop resolution?

  • 1920 x 1200

That helped show everything at once - with a lower resolution things like the map would overlap other things, or could be toggled on and off.

  • im new to this stuff, how do i set it up like yours? thanks mate

  • i noticed you use windows xp... will vista affect this?

  • It should work fine under Vista.

  • I'll try to make a video showing how to set things up like I showed in the video here.

  • I have posted a video response which shows how to install most of the plugins shown. Some of the plugins used are improved versions to those shown in the video here.

  • Any good MUD suggestions? I'm a bit outdated in terms of knowing what was out there. Last one I played I think was Mordor.

  • Try The MUD Connector. That lists lots of MUDs you can play.

  • that's pretty cool!! I like those mods, they'd make MUDding easier for new people and I'd really enjoy it as well.

  • Thanks for posting this video. As someone who is just looking into playing MUDs after being totally disillusioned with the MMORPG world, this really helps!

  • Very nice setup :)
