@Jollywong9 No no no. :46 is the French Horn. There's a trumpet trill at :48, the trumpet holds the trill longer. I think ff808 was asking about the trill in the melody, which is the horn. The trumpet has the countersubject at that specific part. And again, the trill at 1:28 is obviously the French Horn, who has the same countersubject as the trumpet did at :48.
I saw these guys live at Davies Hall in '89. It's really just amazing. I played tuba then, and basically I just messed around compared to these guys. The best part is when they position themselves around the hall and play. They fill the hall just fine, whether they're together like this, or separated.
half of yall are hating. why? they are better musicians than most, if not all of you. dont be judgemental if you cant play it better yourself. its played amazingly on the instruments that are using.
Too fast, I agree, but I feel the articulation was just right. Remember that this piece was originally written for the pipe organ, on which it would usually be played completely legato.
Frankly I feel this arrangement would sound better if it were played on more uniform brass instruments i.e. Trumpet Mellophone Baritone and a front facing tuba such as a contra. This would help create a more uniform sound and get rid of the unnecessary color that gets added naturally by the current instruments.
Too fast and legato??? I think they did their best to adapt Bach to brass. If they play it slower and a little more staccato, maybe they'd asfixiate so they have to carry with them an oxigene tank.
actually, musicians who play blow instruments have a trick where they store the air in their mouth and keep blowing while filling their lungs with air, with their mouths STILL blowing the air inside, so they keep a breathing cicle ^^
White shoes or no, this is the fab five that did over 2000 concerts together: Ron Romm, Fred Mills, Chuck Dallenbch, Gene Watts, and David O'Hanian. Forty years after they started, Chuck Dallenbach (tuba) is the only original still with the group.
@sonicgamerkingTV i thought so to. but no. His name is Gene Watts. One of the founders along side of Chuck Daellenbach(tuba) and Ron Romm(Trumpet(the one with the beard))
I just really love brass music right now :D

musical compositions are normally rated on a scale of 1-6. 1 being easy, 6 being expert. This would no doubt be a solid 10

What do the tuba player and trombone player have on their mouthpieces?
dhammittify 3 weeks ago
@dhammittify Those are most likely custom-fit mouthpieces.
fswmacguy 3 weeks ago
@dhammittify thoes are actually ceramic lip plates, it is easier on the mouth.

How do you do that lip trill?
byohorn 1 month ago
did the horn just lip trill at 0:46 and it appears to happen again at 1:28 because i dont see his fingers moving at all
ff808 1 month ago 3
@ff808 listen carefully, the trill at 0:46 is the sound of a trumpet, but i'm not sure about the one at 1:28
this is the Fugue's structure, a leading instrument plays one melody, the others follow while the instrument continues the melody.

@gpando25 You are absolutely correct--Marty, not David. A stupid error since I know his daughter who plays in the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
