Very nice. I just flew over Block Island last weekend during my trip from Boston to Raleigh (NC) on the leg from Martha's Vineyard to White Plains, NY. The long flight over water reminded me a little bit of my flight from south Florida to Abaco Island in the Bahamas - nearly a couple hundred miles over open water.
@coreyslockbower You are on the money with idea of bringing life vests. I wouldn't do it again without them. I did stay within gliding distance of the shore for as long as possible and was thinking of it the entire time. That is one of the reasons why I don't take my son (only 4 years old) on over water flights if I am the PIC. I did fly over lake Michigan in a Cirrus SR22. On that flight we had life vests and a 406 / GPS PLB even with all that we were still at risk given the water tems.
Nice video, nice song- makes me want to be there. How long does it take to fly from Morristown? I have an aunt who lives there. Any chance a decent, cute girl could hitch a ride?;-)
I liked this trip! Want to do it myself. Where did you make the crossing and what altitude? I flew up to Waterbury/Oxford about a month ago and you could see the sound and LI all the way. Made me want to go further!! Good work!
I am working on my IFR rating so I used victor airways; also it took me away from LGA (LaGuardia). The winds were out of the north so I didn't want to get in the way of their departing traffic.
Cool. I'm gonna check the sectional to see your route. Thanks. If I remember correctly, the shortest crossing was south from RI. But that makes the flight longer from MMU or CDW.

I hope you had life vests for each occupant on board and/or a life raft and flares for the water crossing! I always do when flying to MVY and BID.

Water crossings make me uncomforatble. I would minimize time over the water, and cross from rhode island.

Hey I'm flying there in two days! I have a question or two?
Did you fly through kennedys class or did you not have to?
If you went, how was the airport diner?

Route:
KMMU --> FALLZ Intersection --> V3 --> Carmel VOR --> V347 --> CREAM intersection --> V34 --> KBID.
If memory serves me correctly we were asked to fly at 5500. on out way out and 4500 on out way back.

I also filed VFR flight plans both ways just in case we had any issues.

I also used flight following both ways.
