  • Blimey, this outfit make Pathe News look unbiased!

  • love the hurricane

  • Never seen the IID in action before. thanks for this.

  • awesome!!!

  • Nice landing :-)

  • Then we come to the docks......... x)

  • Now those are what I call real pilots!

  • awesome video.. I'd go back in time and fly in a heart-beat if I could.

  • Great video but am I the only one who thought the bit at the end looked staged? The Malta bit was real of course but the hurricanes in Africa looked more like a propaganda piece, that or apparently British cameramen were literally everywhere

  • @travisscott2 I think they were SAS cameramen ;)

  • What a jewel this video is, thank you OP for this.

  • That landing was awesome! Still be able to fly that shit after. wow!!

  • Whomever the Englishman was who thought of placing a Merlin engine in the Mustang in place of the Allison should have a statue made of him!

  • @jimmyggh1 It was Britain who first initiated the order for the P51, asking first for more P40's, but North American said they could build a better aircraft in a shorter time than retooling the shops for the P40. This became the P51 Mustang.

  • @Xiolablu3 Very true! I also believe I read somewhere (not to sure) that the Mustang was actually designed by a German. (Believe he was an ex-pat to the US)

  • @jimmyggh1 No. One of the designers was german anti-nazi. That much is true. Ex-messerschmitt even. But he was not one of the crucial designers. The two head designers who took all the decisions which made the P-51 exceptional were american. So were the technologies. Supercritical aerodynamic shaping. Proper thermo-aerodynamic dimensioning of the cooler. Germany never made such discoveries. The airframe and wing are also of typical american construction. Much, much stiffer than german designs.

  • @Vermiliontea Thanks Vermillion! Always a great day when I learn something new! I appreciate it!

  • @Vermiliontea I like your points about "supercritical aerodynamic shaping," as so many great minds were working to refine the aircraft. But I think Edgar Schmued's contribution was very critical to the Mustang's success. And from what I've read, it was none other than RAF test pilot, Ron Harker -Mr Merlin swap himself, that started the myth of Edgar working for Messerschmitt.

  • @Vermiliontea - "Germany never made such discoveries" - no they only designed and produced the first operational jet fighter...

  • 1828.mshaffer.com/d/word/bestiality

BESTIAL'ITY, n. The quality of beasts; the state or manners of man which resemble those of brutes.

    1. Unnatural connection with a beast.

In todays dumbed-down English, all we have left is the sex between man and beast.

It used to have other meanings, i.e. beast like, acting like beasts, etc.

  • Mustang as a dive bomber???

    weeps:(

  • @jagdpanther1944 The Mustang only had a low altitude Alison engine at this time in 1942, how were they supposed to use it as a fighter at that time? No Merlin had ever been fitted to one.

  • The war against bestiality eh? its still being waged every day in rural Herefordshire!

  • From what I understand he should be done with the paper work on his belly landing any day now.

  • my best friend flew those A-36 mustangs in the war. Thanks for sharing a great piece of history!

  • 1:10 WOOOW

  • 1:30 the "war against bestiality"!! ROFL COPTER

  • @livegems He DID say that , didn't he?? I thought I was hearing things!

  • A good mate of mine uncle invented the first jet engine in 1939-Whittle is the name of the uncle but the Poms weren't interested. Instead the Nazis stole it and at the end of the war they had the jet engine

  • ur a retard. think heinkel 1942.

    idiot.

  • Oooops !

I hope there will be not arguments about who did what .

Let's be nice , Al Gore almost invented the internet ! ;-)

    Thanks .

  • bugger you, mate... call me an idiot, wanker

  • Nice landing by the Typhoon pilot. They had a tendency to dig in the radiator scoop and flipping, apparently...

  • How low did that pony pilot want to get !

  • Yeah , propeller almost touched the ground , very low pass ;-)

  • @SchoolofLuke si te fijas, en el minuto 1:50 se ve a un militar hablando por "celular" ya en esa fecha...

  • The Allison engined Mustangs continued to serve until the end of WWII. The RAF had two units and the USAF had tactical units using them when the war ended.

They were sometimes used to cut communication lines in Burma by flying at very low level and using a metal cable tipped with weights. The Mustang was flown at low altitude at right angles across the enemy communication lines. The weighted cables would catch and wrap, bolo style, around the line, severing it..

  • ouch!!! what stresses

  • "Mustang to be modified as a dive bomber" 00:56

It was a dog until fitted with Rolls Royce engines

  • @HRMOKeefe wrong it was just not good at high alt. Still very fast at low alt.

  • most air fighting at high altitude? trust me it was underpowered thats why they talk about using it as a dive bomber. Tuskeegee Airmen had Allisons and were assigned to ground attack, no air victories till Rolls powered

  • @HRMOKeefe , Tuskeegee Airmen flew P-40s first, briefly P-47, and then P-51s in which they made their reputation. The P-51 was initially designed and built for the RAF. The airframe was advanced but the powerplant (Allison V-1710) pedestrian. The USAAF thought the a/c had promise but funding for fighters that year had been expended. The AF simply redesignated the a/c A-36 made other changes until funds were available for production.

  • @VeeGlo Yes, Thats what I've always understood. Love the Life Magazine article at the time that questioned if (colored men) blacks were good pilots because they hadn't shot down any German planes in their first 6 months of deployment, they were flying in ground attack missions and hadn't SEEN any German planes for 6 months. / Re: Battle of Britian I recently read that only one of the 9 American pilots who flew in the BoB survived the war, Dr. John Haviland of the U of VA, recently deceased.

  • It was a dog over 15000 feet you mean, under that nothing was faster for it's time.

  • I'm told that until it got the right power it wasnt really a good fighter, never flew one myself but dont have reason to doubt those that did "...it flew like a P-40" (when allsion powered, same engine?)

  • superb footage :D

  • Thank you ;-)

  • Another great video documentary.

The mustang is wonderful in all his versions

    Thanks Stanley ;-)

  • Hi David ;-)

    glad you like it !

  • yeah no kiddin the mustanng is always a great plane...
