You can actually buy tubes that are meant for this process. They burn slowly and there is no flame. They will actually "suck" the ear wax out of your ear and into the tube. It works well when the correct tools are used.
That's a home remedy in Peru too. It does actually work to clear air out of the ear canal. But the newspaper is supposed to burn slowly, leaving the ashes in a rope-like shape. You should also hear loud cracking/popping noises or it's not working.

Those "greedy doctors" sometimes use ear suction devices too. (I do not think anyone who wants a daily income is greedy unless they are trying to fool people into believing they got treated using dummies and syringes with just salt water in them)
silly boy, its not normal paper you use, i know a guy who does this it takes about half an hour each ear and it subtracs a hell of alot of earwax, some guy i saw who had this done had had ear problems his whole life and he said they had never felt better, i think its a paper soaked in beeswax but i am not 100%
