  • it's a grand thing to be saved! praise the Lord!

  • I thought for a long time it was 'The Father alone will understand it' which made sense too!

  • My Mom was dying of Brain Cancer and could barely speak but when I started singing this to her she sung along with the clearest most beautiful voice of an Angel. I only go one everyday so that farther along I can sing again with her. I love you Mommy and miss you more than you will ever know. Enjoy that Mansion in the sky and be in peace. CANCER SUCKS!

  • This song was played at my moms funeral in April. She loved anything that Brad sings!!!

  • just amazing

  • The best version i've heard of this song

  • try Larry Jon Wilson and you will change your mind. It is a preview of heaven

  • The best version to this song is going to a Southern Baptist church and listening to it being sung live, though I do love Brad

  • For me, its one of the best version of this song.

  • great song... and i love this version

  • hes wearing Rayland givens hat!!!

  • Well done Brad. Keep it up. You are making people feel happier with your great songs.

  • I remember when you used to call me on the phone and ask me to come over and play guitar for you.

It never failed that you would ask for this song.

And I would play it for you thinking about the words and seeing you in bed dying of cancer.....and this song was so right Dad....Farther Along I'll understand it.

    Dad's birthday was yesterday.

Happy Birthday Dad.....I miss you, I love you.

  • Brad sings this song SO good!!

  • this song is the greatest. It really stirs the Holy Ghost in me!!

  • 1st time I remkember hearing this I was a couple months past 6 yrs old & it was sung at the funeral for my mother and brother who were killed in a car wreck. I, alone, survived.

  • brad sings this song great but i think my song leader at my church sings it wayyy better no offence to him but i love my little country church and Brother Johnathan has the best voice ever :)

  • @LILEVILONE96

Hi there...would you please YouTube Brother Johnathan singing this song...would love to hear it..

  • I used to sing this with my dad when I was a little boy. Looking back from 60 that's a long time memory. I Love this song, and I can't wait to see my dad again...

  • How can there be 4 dislikes on this?? It's beautiful!

  • There are so many versions of this song, but Brad Paisley's and Ralph Stanley's versions are by far the best.

  • Great song one of my favorates!

  • When that day does come and we find out what it is like to move forward it will be a blessing. I miss my dads so much, both my biological and my foster dad are in heaven and I so look forward to seeing them again.

  • This is exactly the song and version I want played during my funeral.

  • my grandfather is the person who wrote this song but he published it as public domain and it was originally played on the radio by him as "father along" i am so proud to say that i know who wrote this beautiful song let alone to know that i am his grand son. R.I.P. grandpa:(

  • @swindy2013

The song was written in 1911. It would be more likely that your great great grandfather wrote it, rather than your grandfather. And it is not in the public domain. It was copyrighted in 1937, and renewed in 1965.

  • @ItsMeItsOlive 1911 was a good year.mr.browning designed the 1911 .45 acp handgun...matter of fact,this is the centennial year.

  • This is the greatest gospel song ever written, done by the greatest artist to come along in decades, I just love it. I am from a long line of musicians, and can appreciate the music and vocals in this song. I and my family did this song in church all my life.

  • Simply beautiful, love it

  • REMINDS ME OF MY GRANDPARENTS...I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. IT SO TOUCHES MY HEART. I COULD LISTEN TO THE COMFORTING WORDS OVER AND OVER. THANKS SO MUCH TO THIS WONDERFUL YOUNG MAN, BRAD PAISLEY...HE'S GREAT.

  • Thank you Brad. I don't think I've ever heard this done more beautifully and with as much feeling.

Praise God, you will sing this for Him in person!

  • this was sang at my husband's funeral. such a touching, beautiful and soulful song.

  • I hope the 2 people that disliked this video by accident hit the dislike thumb. If they did it on puporse mabye one day they will understand what they are missing. For the 232 that like the song, we understand the greater meaning of life.

  • OMG tell me he doesn't think he is anything at all like Gram... And, please, he sings "farther" instead of "further"... The awfulness is overwhelming... Please, make him stop. Please. For the love of all that is holy, let this not exists in reality. Go listen to the original. And then go listen to some real country music.

  • @csgwoods 1-farther and further are the same and 2 it's not country it's gospel

  • @csgwoods 1-farther and further are the same and 2 it's not country it's gospel

  • @csgwoods the name of the song is Farther Along. Its an old hymnal out of the old church hymnal at your church. Well, that is if you go to church. Elvis sung this song as well. God bless you.

  • @csgwoods The song is called "Father Along", not 'further along', was written in 1911 and has been covered by countless artists. Which "original" version would you have people listen to?

  • @gtrdave

My favourite version, with all due respect to Mr. Paisley, Mr. Cash, and so many other talents, is the a capella interpretation performed by Christine Mourad in an excellent indie film called "Jesus' Son." Are you familiar?

Her voice is light and clear. It's absoutely perfect. The drag was that the song was not included on the soundtrack, and though the song floats into a few different scenes (including the final fade to black before credits), it never plays all the way through.

  • Great song and thanks Brad for singing it.

  • Brad You DO This Song JUSTICE!!

  • i agree, what a fantastic old gospel song ,brad is a lovely entertainer with a great christian soul, many of todays current crop of pop stars could learn a thing or to

  • One of the best versions out there!

  • awesome song i'm sad he remade it on his albumn. super overproduced pop country versions of songs like "farther along" should never happen.

  • I sang this at my mom's funeral a little over a year ago. Liked to killed me. One of my favorite hymns ever.

  • I think this is my favourite video of Brad's... As a Pentecostal/Apostolic i think it is good to see the big artists put some of the basic truths and roots of religon in their albums... Great job Brad on this oldie but goodie

  • this was my grandpas funeral song.. he died on April 3, 2006. he was only 52 years old.. not a day that goes by that I don't think about him or miss him...

  • beautiful version of this song, great job Brad!!

  • Praise the Lord!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful!!!!!!!!!

  • why taking such a perfect song and make it so clean and sparky - new age country is so sad....

this song is about the simple working man . not the flashy producer .

James Elvis cover gospel no youtube

  • Today would have been my granny's 100th birthday. She loved this song and I have many happy memories of hearing her sing it as she worked around the house when I stayed with her as a kid. Happy 100th birthday in Heaven Granny. I sure do miss you and look forward to seeing you again. Even so, Come Lord Jesus.

  • alvastarr67, I was 45 when she went to be with her Heavenly Farther. Learning how to grow up at 45 is HARD. She was my everything. My Support, my Best Friend, my Safe spot. She love me so unconditionally. No one has ever loved me like that. I cry everyday still. It will be a year almost and I still can't accept that she is gone. My Dad is having a Garage Sale (I guess he is ready) but I don't think I can handle watching strangers go thru my Moms things. It make reality hit home. Thank you!

  • My Mom used to sing this all the time when I was younger. When she was sick with Brain Cancer she could barely speak. I started singing this song and she sang it word for word and perfectly clear. She passed on June 10th 2009. I know I will understand it Farther Along.

  • Great job on a beautiful and timely song.

  • IDK, he is amazing, there is no doubt about it, but there is just something about this song that makes it seem like it needs an older, more withered voice, well to me at least

  • Brad, sang so beautiful the voice just perfect to me I would like to sing this song in my church,,

  • I love this cover! Incaase u didn't know he covered this from Elvis. but I like both ones! Brad N' Elvis FTW!

  • Definatly the best of all versions. He and the Peasall Sisters are the best I have heard doing this great old gospel artistry.

  • Oh yeah, I love this version too. If you get a chance you should check out the Michael English version that was sung at a gaither homecoming. Just search farher along gaithers and it should come up :)

  • I think it's more or so saying that while things happen in our life that can't be explained, loved ones taken away and the wicked prospering, we don't understand why but father along the road of life we will find the answers.

Incredible job by Paisley, I have always wanted this song to be done right. Paisley takes is out of it's usual church hymn and makes it sound more Nashville style and country harmonized.

  • love the song !!!

  • I love this version of the song! He is such a gifted artist. I really hope he plays this at the February 6th concert!

  • dougsfan.......thanks for this. -Tex

  • Love this song! Brad Paisley does a great job on this song!

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs. It's the kind of song that makes you wish the Lord would just come today and take us all Home. Thanks for posting it.

  • yesss !

  • This is the best version of the song. I love it!
