Nobody told her! She thought it was just a tribute. Then she came out, saw the casket and was totally shocked. You should know that Mariah always refuses to sing at funerals, because she can't do it. She's too sensitive and weeps easily. And you can't sing properly while you're in tears.
Of course Mariah would be the chosen one to sing this tribute to Michael. She did such justice to his song back in the day. One of my favorite covers of this classic Jackson 5 songs. Rest In Much Peace Mike!

This is one of my favorite songs from the memorial. I like it not because it sounded teh best(although it sounded good), but it reminded all of us why this event was being held. Through her you can really see the magnitude of MJ's death. Through her words, you can hear the pain and sorrow.
You can see the emotion in her face clearly at 1:16 when she swallows the lump in her throat. I thought this performance was awful the first time I heard it ; now its one of my favorites just because of the emotion behind it. Even if all her notes arent perfect. I think that is why she closes her eyes alot during this performance- to concentrate on the notes and partially because of her stage freight.
Clearly Mariah can no more make money in singing live like in concerts. only through records.. I think voice quality is lost over time if you sing her style.

This is one of my favorite songs from the memorial. I like it not because it sounded teh best(although it sounded good), but it reminded all of us why this event was being held. Through her you can really see the magnitude of MJ's death. Through her words, you can hear the pain and sorrow.

You can see the emotion in her face clearly at 1:16 when she swallows the lump in her throat. I thought this performance was awful the first time I heard it ; now its one of my favorites just because of the emotion behind it. Even if all her notes arent perfect. I think that is why she closes her eyes alot during this performance- to concentrate on the notes and partially because of her stage freight.

Clearly Mariah can no more make money in singing live like in concerts. only through records.. I think voice quality is lost over time if you sing her style.

the truth of the matter is, Mariah has always had (and had admitted) stage fright. even with her immense talent and years experience in performing in front of thousands of people, often times, she still gets nervous. i think she also knows that her voice has lost some of its quality, and that knowledge aggravates the stage fright that she's always had.

i honestly though the who memorial was a joke. someone died cmmon. its not for you to go and sing about it, even if your honoring him. i think the celeerties that performed shouldnt have done that i think they shoudve stuck to makeing speeches and simply letting the family know that they respected micheal and cared about him. This whole thing in my opinion was another reason for artisit to show their talent. we get you can sing. now show micheal how much you care with words. not lyrics.

awh i think everyone should leave her alone... im not a mariah fan but she was really upset you can really see that..it may have not been a perfect performance but it came from the heart and she sung it for Michael so just leave her alone....

If you want to talk about INAPPROPRIATE; what about the USHER preformance. TAKE OFF THE SUNGLASSES and don't play because you want to make a comeback. Just about as bad as MJ's Father...plugging his own new record company. SHAMELESS some hollywood folk!

okay, we get she was emotional about the death of jackson and the fact she didn't warm up, I still think she could have put her mind to singing this well for the king of pop. Also she probably does need to show america some more songs that do show she can still sing well, I think people would agree we are tired of hearing simple songs like Touch My Body and Obsessed, I would want a little more of those songs and We Belong Togethers and Don't Forget About Us.

I think this was good even if it wasn't rehearsed. Things are better sometimes when they are not rehearsed. People must remember that she has not sung this song in quite a time. Her voice has also changed since she started singing this song.
