Perhaps "mass migration" is a better term. The waves of the germanic tribes beating down the once-great Roman empire, rather than the Belgian program in the Congo. Each individual is simply seeking a better life. Groups can have negative effects even if the individuals have all the best intentions.

The 'resources' looted from Europe aren't minerals, but the social system European workers have labored for decades to build.

Yes, we`re so much better off because of them. We could go with the African alternative to the European system though: brutal inter-tribal warfare.
