can you do me a favor? it would be greatly appriciated by me if you could maybe do a deminstration of the knife. the glass punch and the hook because obviously im a firefighter and i was looking into replacing my current rescue knife. and i would like to know if it is worth my money i mean it is but i would like to make a comparison. Thanks FF anthony williams lancaster PA
I ahve tested the glass punch which works flawlessly, howveer I cna tell you from personal expereince any rescue "hook" design is only effective when VERY sharp, after a few used its VERY important to touch up the edge otherwie seatbelt material or clothgi9n will bunch and not cut properly..
@cutlerylover so... how do you keep the sharp?? is not like an ordinary knife to shapening with any stone or shapening system like Dmt or lanky how do you or any one keep the hook sharp??
Warning: The automatic glass punch mechanism is of fragile construction. Immediately after purchasing two Houdinis, I dropped one of them four feet onto a tile floor, and the punch mechanism broke and fell apart. (I purchased two of these Houdinis..since they are a great price with great features! I just wish it had a basic impact glass spike, instead of the spring gimmick.)
i'm a firefighter/emt, and i carry this with me when i work, and its great for a car accident. you can pop a window, and cut the seatbelt, and ive even cut wires with it, and it works great.
Does anyone know how this compares to the HInderer Rescue Knife from Gerber? It also has a window punch. Does anyone know if the Gerber is a spring loaded window punch?
i just bought one as a firefighter. i see it being something practical for us, both for car accidents and in fires. we get tangled up in wires or something, we can cut them with this rather than a straight blade, and take away the risk of slicing our gear or something.
my friend got one of these in the mail and he pushed the glass shatter tool on the back of my hand... cutlerylover, i can tell you the glass shatter tool works :(
Might want to reconsider who and what you define as "Friend". If my "Friends" Hurt me I generally do not consider them "friends". I think the term acquaintance would be more correct but I am not sure if it was me that I would even continue to be acquainted with folks like that.
the victorinox rescue tool wud b great if had thought of the torch... for the glass.. just hav to use a lil muscle, but i like the lazy way on this 1 .. very cool :P
One item that I would hope to *never* have to use, IF I could even keep my wits about myself, which is highly unlikely. I hope somebody like *you* would be around.
Last June I saw 4 teenagers roll their car and die, literally right in front of me. I was useless.
wow that sounds very hard to cope with...like a sense of helplessness, but it soudns liek there was nothgin you coudl have done anyway...I was ina rollover in a jeep cherokee a few years back witha friend, thank god I was wearing my seatbelt at the time, and luckily no real injuries besides scrapes and bruises...we ended up upside down and my seatbelt was jammed, at the tiem I was carrying a Gerber EZ-out flder, which I used to cut the seatbelt off...thats why I carry a knife everyday...
Just wanted to say - the good thing about the automatic punch is if you have a busted arm or pinned down and cant swing at the window the automatic punch can do it for you.
Also the only two times you can open the door of the car is when the water is below your window or when the car has filled up with water.
i bought this for mom for xmas, shes always driving...

Great review. Just wanted to point out that it actually didn't make that mark in the wood, it was there from the start of the video. lol
ShadowsOfMisfortune 2 years ago
oops, lol, I didnt see it at 1st then after the demo I saw a mark, thought it was from the tool, lol
cutlerylover 2 years ago
very nice, but kinda big for the amount of tools on it. it would be awsome if they added a knife blade to it.

I recommend also carrying a roll of packaging tape so when youre under water the glass doesnt shatter in
