  • There is no reason to deny two consenting adults human beings any of the more than 1100 special rights, previleges and entitlements of marriage, especially when many localities and countries openly condone polygamous marriages, marriages involving minors and even marriages involving other species.

Also, if marriage is restricted to one special class(heterosexuals in this case) then taxpayers should stop being made to subsidize it. At least gays arent causing overpopulation.

  • Name one legal protection afforded straights not afforded to gays...

Remember, straights can't marry same sex either.

  • Gee, where should I start?. There are more than 1300 legal rights afforded to married couples. You should do your homework, and not ask me to do it for you.

And, if you're straight, why would you want to marry someone of the same sex?

Now I have to make my legal husband dinner. While I do that, I suggest you get a life.

  • God Bless America and the California Supreme Court.

  • Yes, God bless America and the CA Supreme Court for allowing my same-sex marriage, in CA, to remain legal. Luckily for me, I'm part of the "special class" that CA has just created. It's just a shame that others like me in the state don't have the same rights. But they'll get there, It's only a matter of time, especially with God allowing for gay marriage in 5 other states. It seems as if He is coming around, like the rest of our country. Thanks for your blessings and support.

  • I have hope! Despite the questionable methods the anti-gay marriage groups used to garner votes to pass prop 8, and the underhanded source of funding they received from the morman church, prop 8 only passed by 4 percentage points. For all of those out there that think a 52-48 win is a landslide and that "the people have spoken", maybe you should look at the difference in those numbers again - 4 points. Trends point toward the acceptance of gay marriage - we will have marriage equality!

  • Im for equil rights of a partnership.I think that there should be all the same rights that married people have but it shouldnt be call marriage.I also have this problem too, gays want to bring up civil rights when most white gay men are some of the most prejudice people that I have ever met.Let some one black walk in to a bar and no one wants to talk to him. Those gay whites make such a big deal over color.I dont think that anyone should be singled out and made feel less than!

  • It took years to reach equaity for African Americans and even longer for women. (which acount for over 1/2 the human population) We can and WILL get our right to marry. It Unfortuanatly mite take several years...

  • pupyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • Wow! Thank you very much. I appreciate your comments.

  • Random House:

Ignorance (n) - lack of knowledge

    bigotry (n) - intolerance of a belief

The NOM commercial is spreading exactly that - period. The shoe fits!

Study American history and its treatment of minorities, the dots are clearly there and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to connect them.

The U.S. Constitution doesn't say America is about making it easier for a minority but still legal to discriminate.

14th Amendment: No state shall deny any person equal protection of the laws.

  • If gays and men/women can have marriages why can't their be multiple partner marriages, If me, a guy, and 3 other women want to get married, we should be cover under the equal protection clause too, I think it's dumb that they won't let us enjoy our right to get married, we love one another as much if not more than any other couples out there, but we love each other in a different way. they won't even give us a different name like civil union!

  • At the risk of wasting my time, I'll go ahead and respond to this anyway.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Homosexuality is an orientation, an inherent trait, while polygamy is a lifestyle. You weren't born a polygamist. That's something you chose. Homosexuals are born with that orientation.

The Constitution protects people, not lifestyles.

  • Who's the bigot now? That's exactly what some people against gay marriage is arguing about, they are saying they shouldn't because it's choice. Maybe being in love within a group is an inherent trait! the government can not deny us of our liberty to be group married. Even if gay is a choice and 'polygamy' is a choice, the equal protection clause never mentioned "lifestyle" but 'people' and their 'Liberty'!.

  • Gay isn't a choice period. Polygamy is. People arguing that being gay is a choice, dont understand becuz their not gay. Its not a choice!

  • another thing about ur argument. by your argument our "inherent trait" is to be with only one partner, maybe -that- is a lifestyle...a lifestyle taught and brainwashed at an early age. Be open minded man, stop being a bigot. Also the equal protection clause protects people and liberty, it didn't mention lifestyle. It's open to interpretation

  • I really don't mean to come off as close-minded or bigoted. For that I apologize. I don't judge you for feeling that way. It certainly is your right. If that makes you happy then go for it. It's just not my fight. But if you feel that strongly then fight for it.

  • There is no scientific proof you are born gay. I'm sure there are polygamists who would like to argue that they were born with the inherit tendency to avoid commitment with one person. They are both lifestyles. And both are immoral lifestyles - that you as an American - have every right to practice. However - it this doesn't mean a state should reconstitute what marriage means. When you find the gay gene - you can say I'm wrong.

  • And on the contrary. There is no scientific proof that homosexuals aren't born gay. If you're not gay then you don't know what you're talking about. Since I'm gay, then I think I have a little more experience on the subject. And, do a little homework. Marriage used to mean that a man claimed a woman as his property. Obviously marriage has already been changed. Give me substance to argue your point.

  • No, there's not real scientific proof. But ask ANYONE that's gay or bi and they'll say they didn't have a choice whether they are gay or not.

  • this video is great.

I can't wrap my brain around the fact that anyone could be against people loving each other. when did that become such a bad thing? if it doesn't even affect you, you're wasting your time hating people. It's 2009, and people are STILL thinking this way. it's mind boggling, really.

  • i think it's safe to say "engaygements" will be the new term for gay couples who get engaged which i fully support!

  • Thank you, toosmart. I'm glad you can use rational reasoning: However, here's a few thoughts to ponder: Does having separate but equal treatment under the law really work? Has it worked in the past? Also, choosing to have homosexual feelings is not a choice. However, living the lifestyle is. But who in their right mind assume one truly has a CHOICE to marry the opposite sex if they are truly gay? This sort of acts ruins lives, and is not fair at all for the other individual.

  • Thanks CapnCircus. Glad to have more support. I know your intentions were good & pure, but I have to address the myth of the "gay lifestyle". There's no such thing. For as many gays there are in the world, there are as many differnt indivuals and lifestyles. Some are quiet, & conservative, others are wild and irresponsible, or somewhere in between. (Continued in the next reply section below)

  • Some people live to party & dance & do drugs others don't (gay or straight). My partner & I have been together for 11 yrs. We work, make dinner, swim in our pool & have dinner parties for our friends. What about that is a gay lifestyle? We are no different than my sister & her family or our straight neighbors. Being in a committed relationship whether gay or straight is a choice, not who we're attracted to. I agree, living otherwise would be a lie, and is damaging to those involved. (continued)

  • Making a decision to settle down is a choice. If you're gay it would naturally be w/ the same sex, if you're not then it would be with the opposite sex. This decision applies to gay or straight. So it's not unique to either orientation. Thus, settling down for a gay couple is not considered a "gay lifestyle". It's just a lifestyle, period. Thanks for the dialog!

  • Very well said...

I have never seen someone put it so well thanks for speaking on this topic.

  • I'm glad you are able to rationalize, toosmart. However, you must realize this: What are the possible effects of having separate but equal treatment under the law? Has it worked in the past, in your opinion? Also---feeling the feelings of being gay is not a choice. However, choosing to live a gay lifestyle is---as well as a straight one. But how can you blame gay people for choosing to live what they FEEL? It would be reprehensible to suggest they could wed with opposite sex. That ruins lives.

  • Thanks for the comment. I'm happy you support gay civil marriage. Based on your response, I'm guessing that you're not gay. The reason I bring that up is, unless you're gay, you wouldn't be able to understand that being gay isn't a choice. I can't change my orientation, just as a black person can't change their color. I know, it would be unnatural to be anything else. I was born homosexual. To live otherwise would be a lie. Thanks for the support but we'll have to fundamentally disagree in part.

  • One more point, because gays were persecuted in concentration camps, by the Nazis I feel that putting us in the same category as those of the Jewish faith is completely fair and reasonable. Thanks.
