does putting soothing music on the video supposed to make this an idealistic solution. what wadot has continually not shown are the impacts to the city streets. why casually say that you are putting in a second montlake bridge without saying how many lanes you are adding to 24th ave? how does this affect surface traffic? why is the transit interchange approx 1/3 of a mile from the proposed light rail station. way to go wadot! eyman is an idiot. his reforms are destroying the state.
Regarding Link Light Rail - The problem with light rail on the bridge is where you go on the East Side. Assuming some kind of tie in at the University Station the next stop is something like 5 miles. On I-90 you can stop on Mercer Island and then go to Bellevue getting twice the stops for the distance and cost. Also the transportation needs on Mercer Island need to be considered.
The video conveniently omits the merge mess at Portage Bay and I-5. During morning Eastbound commute, transit from downtown will be stuck in the two general traffic lanes on I-5 that merge together under the 10th & Delmar lid, unable to reach the HOV lane in the center. In the pm, Westbound transit in the center HOV lane will need to merge with the general lanes while cars also enter and merge from Montlake w/b ramp. Backup Hell. Please connect Link Light Rail across 520 and end the madness!
How do you suggest we pay for it? or would you rather we just ignore the problem altogether, let traffic become even more horrific and eventually let the bridge fall down?
Usually when someone complains about something, they ought to suggest a better alternative. Like "petition the US government for monies" or "ask for donations."
So the SOB's added an HOV lane and bike path for the freeloaders while the car owners who actually pay all our road taxes don't get a single added lane to use!
Oh and for good measure the people in their cars will now be allowed to pay an additional hefty toll while the bus riders and bikers get another free pass.
How about just for once this state increase general purpose lanes for the people who are ACTUALLY PAYING for these projects!
just think of the people using bikes and the bus as people you don't have to compete with in traffic. and if you want to talk about freeloaders talk about the people on the eastside of the mountains - they get way more bang (money) for their tax dollars than those of us on the westside.
Please no tolls. I can barely afford gas to get back and forth to work. Tolls would be devasting for me and others. The 9 cent a gallon Gary Locke gas tax was supposed to pay for the bridge. Yes it was
Truly! yes it was! I even voted for it. because I know that the bridge needed to be replaced, but the politicians count on us having short memories. that is why Queen Christine followed it up with another gas tax to replace the Viaduct, and guess what... that didnt happen either! that is why you need to support Tim Eyman. without him we might as well just hand over our entire paycheck to the state. they obviously know how to use it better than we do.

I love how we already pay large gas taxes and vehicle registration fees, but now we can add more and more tolls to our expenses.
I just really find it exciting to pay for the same thing 3 times over. Hopefully in the future they impose tolls on tolls, then we can pay even more !

Otherwise it just sounds like whining.

looks beautiful... but really... no rail... really? Doesn't that seem short sighted? It needs to happen.

I agree. They ought to at the very least have the empty space in place in the middle to build one in the future.
