the whole seme/uke thing actually goes back very far in Japanese culture. Gay relationships between samurai and younger boys was extremely common, as well as was kabuki female-roll actors (onnagata) and their courtesans. Homosexuality was banned for a spell after Japan opened to the west and western cultural influence appeared, but the ban was short-lived. In Japan, though, there is a similar thing happening in America to "on the down low": married men who have sex with other men.
Whenever I watch this guy I feel like giving him a serious make-over. Sorry, I don't mean to be critical.
