Its great that he shows people his playing style..... but what he rarely does is slow it all down so that you can really see and hear what's going on. I subscribe to Total Guitar and he contributed a section for a few months. For starters, in the video clips he's pissed as a rat and plays so fast that you can't disect the licks and the notation is a f*ckin' headache!!

@mrbigh95838 Hi, I learn all his stuff by ear. It takes a lot of patience and lot of time listening to it over and over again. What I always use is a software to slow down the playback to 50% or something, so I can easier figure out the faster parts. That approach has for a big advantage over using tabs or videos - I'm training my ear to hear the different intervals, modes, chord progressions, whatever... But this stuff here is quite complex if you're not used to it...

Its great that he shows people his playing style..... but what he rarely does is slow it all down so that you can really see and hear what's going on. I subscribe to Total Guitar and he contributed a section for a few months. For starters, in the video clips he's pissed as a rat and plays so fast that you can't disect the licks and the notation is a f*ckin' headache!!

@mrbigh95838 Hi, I learn all his stuff by ear. It takes a lot of patience and lot of time listening to it over and over again. What I always use is a software to slow down the playback to 50% or something, so I can easier figure out the faster parts. That approach has for a big advantage over using tabs or videos - I'm training my ear to hear the different intervals, modes, chord progressions, whatever... But this stuff here is quite complex if you're not used to it...

@liljimr Nothing closet about it. Do you not know much about Zakk? His favorite vocalists are Ozzy and Greg Allman. He's a huge fan of southern rock and had his own southern rock band in the 90s. He learned all his chicken pickin' stuff from watching Albert Lee videos. There were times during recording No More Tears that Ozzy would have to tell him to ease off the country stuff.

I don't know how anybody could watch this and make negative comments. "He only does pentatonic licks"... uh no. First off, try playing those two note per string pentatonic licks that he does as fast and clean as he does. He's doing alot of "chicken pickin"... using other fingers to supplement his pick. Zakk plays with alot of attitude too, which is something that most of the neo classical weanies seem to miss. He's also playing clean here... no gain to hide slop. Zakk is a VERY good player.

@khabibissell THANK YOU! He's a world known guitarist and he didn't get that way by accident. Give anybody else the same pentatonic box and see if they can do what he does with it. Pick technique: attack, clarity, accuracy, nobody in metal does it like Zakk. It takes balls for a hard rock/metal guitarist to make a shred video like this on a clean guitar. People are gonna bitch no matter what. I could complain that Yngwie only uses harmonic minor. But I won't because he's great at what he does.
