this is a laymans version of sam the bellhop. it doesn't take into account the fact that the deck is cut by audience members through out the trick. however it does get the applied afect that is needed... granted in a crude fashion

Getting the false cut down is pretty important to a lot of these types of card tricks. What I've seen Bill Mahone (sp) do as well is allow the audience to cut then he sneakily repositions the cards in order again. You can see him do it, but it's quick. He also has a good looking false that he uses.

After an audience member cuts the pack, the top half is not perfectly aligned with the bottom half, so the magician can exploit that and he swiftly reverses the cut in his hand.

If you look on here for Bill Malone doing it, notice they are conditioned to cut but not complete the cut. If you finish it you can complete it off center and transfer that to a break with your thumb fat or pinky and use a false cut to return it.

The whole point of the 'magic' is the skill in the handling of the cards, which you rightly say, you suck at!

To learn false cuts and shuffles is the real reveal and that takes a lot of practice and skill which you should go away in a dark room and attempt to achieve.

When you can do that, come back and do the trick - not the reveal. I and everyone else will be much more impressed.

Don't compare yourself to Penn and Teller.

When they reveal a trick, they are revealing one that is their's to reveal.

Also, often they reveal it in such a way that it is not actually revealing it, for example their cups and balls routine. Although they describe how everything is done, they do it in such a way that it's impossible for the spectators to really understand how it all happened.

I would have no worries performing a cups and balls routine for someone who watched their routine.
