Why you said that it could cause troubles if I use it for automatic backup and store some personal files? is really necessary to buy an external HD if I have a Time Capsule 2TB?
@Detroitblog How do you transfer to the time machine with a wired usb cable so large backups wont take as long? And my T.V. could read and play .avi files off of my seegate 500 GB external HD, Is that possible with the time capsule?
Great video! Very helpful! I just bought a 3TB time capsule (yes, ouch!). I was using a 1TB Western Digital passport with the WD smart ware software to back up all my files. I would like to know if there is a way to restore these files (the back up files from my external HD) to the TimeCapsule without having to restore them directly to my 256gb SSD on my MacBook Pro. Thanks!
Hey! Nice video dude. I am under the impression that the initial backup can indeed be done over ethernet, in fact, apple recommends it here support.apple com/kb/ht1175 .
@Freakydink1 he's a drug cartel in Detroit duh! Way to show off his house. It's a friggin' Apple Time Capsule review but he managed to squeeze in a clip of his house. "Look at my house, it's huge!" haha. He sounds just like Chilla Frilla I think they're related.
@ChristianAlvestam178 There are several applications that allow you to do this. Mac even has one installed for you. It's in quick time under file and new screen recording.
@AiruhnG I've heard that before but that doesn't work for me. I open iPhoto and click Time Machine and it dismisses the iPhoto window and goes straight to Finder as usual. I'm running Lion, latest versions of everything.
lol you are using almost all of the 2tb's that came with your time capsule. Can you not store alot of your backups in the cloud now that icloud is live?
@DetroitBORG would you have to pay for internet if you had this because i have an att router and i though if you get this you would not have to pay for internet
@DetroitBORG im getting a macbook air for christmas and i also have a choice of getting a ipad2 or i could get a 2tb time capsule and an ipodtouch 4th gen WHICH 1 WOULD U RECOMMEND 4 ME 2 GET
Wired backups and Wireless backups are completely compatible with each other. Apple recommends that you complete the first backup over a wired ethernet connection before switching to a wireless connection thereafter.
I have a iMac thinking about getting this but can my wife use this 2 she has a mac book pro so what I'm trying to say can 2 computer share its file on this.THANKS
Great Video as always! One question... Wired backups are incompatible with wireless? Are you sure? I often connect my MBP with a cable when i know it will be a huge backups (after a big video project for instance) and then just use it wireless as normal every other time? I have the version before this time capsule if that makes a difference and a MBP 2009? Just wondered!
What do you recommend getting if I want to be able to wirelessly use Time Machine with my MBP but I don't really want to spend very much money, preferably under $100. I also wouldn't need more than probably about 500GB.
@sasj15 Thanks for pointing this out, this must have come with the newer software. Ran into this problem with the 2nd gen unit and was on the phone with Apple Support and that's how I discovered the incompatibility with the wireless and wired backups. Apparently the Wireless backup is packaged differently for stability.
I like this video of yours Mike :) as it has lots of replay value to me. I like how you show off the hardware and do a real time unboxing then you demonstrate how to configure the device with your mac.
You do good at demonstrating. Was that your talent just for curiosity? Oh and I have a question about iMoive. Is there an option that you can split multiple clips in one screen? How many could you split up to?
@IamMeUareYou it uses a wifi signal to connect to your mac. I don't think this is formatted for PC since the software in TC is made to work with Time Machine. Time Machine is a application that comes with all Mac computers. TC is a external Hard Drive for backs and wireless base station all in one. You could even connect you USB printer to it and make your printer into a wireless printer that everyone on you network could print from.
I'm a little jealous that so many people can afford Apple everything, but even more people, me included, can afford Apple nothing :( Apple should lower their prices ASAP!
@TheAppleReviewGuy I can't recommend spending that much on a Mac mini, but it's much more powerful than the MBA. Still, I'd prefer to have the 13" MBA. It's up to you and what you want to do with it.
Thanks. Nice house. We have an IMAC and an IBOOK G4 that are working through the newer Netgear router. So, would both computers work with this as well as my PCs and would I just get rid of my 90.00 router? Thanks.

@zachcaskey96 Cool, I try to make this stuff watchable...it can otherwise be very dry and detailed. Always trying to figure out what I need to leave in or out.
@DetroitBorg Great Video review, however my issue with all Mac External HDD's is the use of Mac Extended Format which is unreadable by Windows PCs.
