That is a REALLY awesome idea. Now I want to do it. And figure out how to :( if anyone knows how to can you tell me cause I would really love to try this cause I love making plants and food
that's a neat little setup you have there. i'm going with a square foot garden method next year. did a little garden this year just to see if i could get enough sunlight where i want it.

Dude, you have such a cool life! You've inspired me! I'm going to make one of these! You've also inspired me to do parkour and try out for Ninja Warrior! Thanks, Levi.
I've never heard of this before. Though I wonder, why this instead of just, well, planting it regularly? It seems to be an awful lot of work as opposed to just planting it in the soil.
@floppydisk909 You don't need fertilizers or insecticides, there's no interaction with pollutants in the environment, you can grow year round, you use outrageously less water (since it is recycled), grow more with less space, and you can grow fish as well. Once it's setup there's very little work to keep it going. :)
@LeviMeeuwenberg Levi Meeuwenberg hopes to a new friend of Sue Ellen Armstrong, Arthur Read, Buster Baxter, Francine Frensky, & Muffy Crosswire to be coming a new champions on SASUKE 28.
i love your combination of gravel and hydroton, something i only had in mind but didn't do yet, let me know how it works... i also like your idea of putting those rubber mates on top of what seemed to be plastic shelves...brilliant... i hope your papaya grows!!!!! nice, nice!
@LeviMeeuwenberg I think what you mean is that hydroton is NOT absorbent of water. Instead, it drains water well. For hydro/aquaponics we want an inert substrate that drains the water away quickly to bring the maximum amount of oxygen to the plant roots. Looks like your system is doing well.
what happens when it rain?

@TeamPerilous It's called hydroton, they're expanded clay balls, very lightweight and super absorbent of water.

maybe you should use some real soil, that would make you project greener :)

@bluffatpk Soil would clog the system. 3/4inch gravel works better. :)
