Are you sure you're a gay family? How do you know your kids are gay, aren't they a little young to have worked out whether they're gay or straight yet?
@MynameisElliott Have never said our kids are gay...My guess is they are straight...The title gay family is because there parents are gay and parents are the head of a family. If you are Catholic you would be a Catholic family even if the kids grow up and become atheist.
Good videos, guys! I was a gay dad for about 10 years. As the "step" I was never accepted by my partner's son. But I stayed until he was 18 and left home. As with straight families, it doesn't always work. Seeing your good family situation has helped me heal somewhat from the bummer experience I had once. Bless you!
I just discovered you guys and I'm watching all of your ask a gay family episodes. You guys are awesome :) I was raised mormon and still consider myself to be mormon, but I'm also bisexual and see things differently than a lot of people in the religion. I know to a lot of people me being gay and mormon makes absolutely no sense, but that is who I am and I'm not gonna let any one take that away from me.
its funny, for the longest i've been avoiding this video because i'm not all that religious and i didn' really know what to expect out of it. last night i had a heated argument with my friend that went from gay to religion and after watching this, it really said a lot. great video guys, and i noticed for once bryan wasn't wearing those black jeans of his :-P
Good for you! I am a gay teenager who has been & is dealing with my system of morality. I was raised in a Roman Catholic Italian-American family, & when I came out, I started trying to do what it seems like you guys do, fitting Christianity to your beliefs. But as I did so, I found more that I disagreed with. BUT you guys are right on the nose about spirituality being personal. I still have deep respect for fixed religions; I just don't fit completely into one! If you guys can, GOOD FOR YOU!
This is the problem with the post-modern church of today. They think they get to pick and choose what they do and don't want to believe out of the Bible. The problem with that is that the Bible can't be dissected like that. It is one continuous truth from start to finish. So really, you either accept everything or nothing at all. Scripture says many times in the Old Testament and New very clearly that homosexuality is a sin. You can't just omit it
Must say, I'm gay and christian and I fully believe in God and evolution because God wanted us to move on and grow in mind, body and spirit! I think God wants us to have religion evolve with us too, to not necessarily look at a book written 2,000+ yrs ago and still live by that exactly! Everything must evolve in order for there to be happiness and progress, religion being the biggest one and that it shouldn't be a scary or impossible thing either! I love you guys, you give hope to me, thanks!
I'm gay and christian, and I don't really have a problem with hell but I also think that hell is not the point, it's heaven! I sort of believe hell could be anything to be honest, it could be nothing happening to you after you die, it could be a spiritual place where you are tormented(I don't think heaven or hell are physical places but spiritual places you end up). As a smart Bahai once said, we don't know really, and we aren't suppose to know. Its like being a baby in the womb!
Anthropologists have hypothesized that the fertile Earth Mother Figure, known to anyone who has studied Art History, was gradually replaced by a patriarchal deity as tribes became larger and started bumping to each other's territories. The warrior/defender gods gained prominence as conflict became more common, hence the patriarchal nature of the world now... this process affected both spirituality and seeing the enemy as "other", rather than "fellow"... God is a black lesbian in a wheelchair...

Christianity appeals to children for one main reason: the Nativity. A baby in a manger surrounded by friendly animals and receiving gifts is a wonderful marketing tool. Not to mention all those carols written about Christmas that are simple enough for any child to learn and fall in love with. To a lesser extent, the chocolate Easter bunny does the same thing.
PS - among the many things I am in life, one of them is a United Church of Canada organist and music leader...
@RWMusic90 I have been you and once we understand that God made all of us in his image life gets easier...If you ever need a friend when you are feeling weak just reach out ok.
it is true not all christians are bad my friends they are catholic and hey except me for me they say that i am not going to hell for being gay i wish all christians believed that but you can't stop ignorance
@andrewtokyo12 I think the issue is that true Christians believe all of the Bible and so are called to uphold it. The Bible says plainly that homosexuality is a sin even in the New Testament. (I say that because most people try to refute that truth by bringing up the crazy laws of the Old Testament) The only laws we have to follow from the Old Testament are the ten commandments. Jesus came and abolished everything else. However, he reinstated some commands, 1 being don't practice homosexuality
@paint14872 Ok by your words alone you are a treu Hypocrite there is no way that you believe all of the Bible and uphold it...So save your lies for people who less educated.
@depfox I do believe all of the Bible and uphold it to the best of my ability. I am sinful, but I recognize my sin as such because the Bible shows me plainly that it is sin.
@paint14872 well i don't want to fight with you i am just stating my opinion, but the bible was not written by god or jesus but by man. i was told when i went to church god was the only judge and he loves everyone no matter if they are different or not.plus since it is indirect evidence it could have been misinterpreted even now things get misinterpreted but i am not trying to start any thing
@andrewtokyo12 I would only say that the Bible was written by God through man. We could get into why I believe that if you'd like, but for now I will state simply that if you start picking and choosing what is from God and what isn't, then you open up a snowball effect which inevitably makes believing the Bible foolish. However, if you believe Jesus is God as the Bible teaches, then his story from cover to cover, must be truth because God would not allow a tainted story of himself to be told.
@paint14872 i am not going to argue because i am not good at debate but i was told god loves everyone the way they are and if he hated homosexuals then why would he continue to let me live just saying(sorry for the spelling errors my spell check is not working)
@andrewtokyo12 I want to make it very clear before there is a misconception that God absolutely loves everyone in the sense that he desires all would place their faith in Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection. The fact that he let's any of us live (all of us being sinners) is grace and love in and of itself. That being said, he is not ok with us continuing in sin if we call ourselves Christians. He knows that it is the best thing for us to follow his word and uphold it

Hmmm i wonder why God killed all the homosexuals in Saddam and Gomorrah in the bible where it says God told his children to leave the place because it was infested with homosexuals. Don't you people understand that Christianity doesn't follow your beliefs? Please do the whole world a favor and don't call yourselves Christians because apparently God himself showed his abomination towards homosexuality by killing all of them that lived in that city.
hi, i'm a gay guy in malaysia and i really love your videos, it's sort of pleasing and calming my heart and emotions. i hope to built a family like you guys but i know it will never happen in a country where gayism is a taboo, it just make me happy to see other gay people living happily. may god bles you
Wow. That really was a deep. I will admit at first I didn't want to watch this one because religion is such a heated thing to talk about but now I'm glad I did. I too was raised Christian, that gays would burn & blah blah blah but I don't see it that way. I believe it just like what you said Jay. That a loving god doesn't hate his creations. Also when the time come I hope I'll see you and Bryan and your adorable kids up there too! :)
It's nice that you're using the Bible and Christianity to make yourselves better people but I certainly find it to be hateful in general. It may not be homophobic but it certainly is a hateful book and I understand why people do horrible things because of it. I disagree with that user about Christians all being evil and hateful. Most of them are just nice, normal people who don't understand what their text fully represents. I find the cons of it to outweigh the benefits though.
This is for Brian, You say you talk to God and He hears you where ever you are. You are right...He knows what lies hidden in our hearts. Jesus is the only one who can fill that void. He has a plan for all of but it is up to us if we want to listen to that still small voice that thunders inside our soul. I am not judging you but asking you to open your heart to the call. Jesus loves you brother more than a human ever can!!!!!
I believe that you guys are the most influential people on YouTube and I believe that God has blessed both of you. You are right...churches or religious centers have been going overboard with this stuff and they should stop...it's just wrong...keep on doing what you do because one day your kids are definitely gonna see what try need in order to be 100% sure that you love them, god loves them, and it will not matter what others think about your family!!
18:05 According to this inspirational quote, my asexuality and celibacy makes me queer. That is, assuming Love means Have Sex.
Your vid demonstrated open-mindedness, acceptance, and being different, up until that quote that labeled us asexuals as queer and homos and straights as right.
I'm queer and atheist. I don't share your views about spirituality, but I totally respect the way you answer back to haters, religiophobic or homophobic people. This positiveness and openness truly shows what good values you cherish and promote and what outstanding parents you are.
May be the god hates gays but it does not mean any thing more. If the god really hate you why he allow you to come to th earth to experience the love the happiness and the sadness even if the god really hate gay but sorry it does not mean you need to hate gays because you are not god so if you unrespect gay people shut up and go to the he'll, because it is no of your business.
It takes children "more time to accept religion" because while they are still young, Religion overlaps into their fantasy part of their mind. I mean jesus being resurrected and all that God does.... what difference is fiction from religion. Well, it's the adults ofcourse. The adults who have been forced in childhood to adapt a religion. Nobody grows up and just autamatically belongs to a religion. You are influenced by either parents, people around you, or circumstance. It is not logical to them
@Jesusistheonlyway905 Wrong again. Do you know anything at all? I know you're only twenty-two, but that's no excuse for complete lack of knowledge of anything besides bible verses.
Except of course Numbers 31:7-18, which seems to be a mystery to you.
@Jesusistheonlyway905 Statistically, it's the same as growing up in a straight family. The only difference is that by age 12 most kids brought up in gay families have experienced homophobic attacks from their peers. (ie. people like you)
homosexuality is an abomination in the sight of God. Being gay is one thing, but being gay and being proud of it, of exercising it with no shame or guilt shows you do not have the Spirit of God. You shall no them by their fruits, Jesus said.
@Jesusistheonlyway905 You seem to have time to comment on videos like this, but still have not answered my questions regardig the genocide and virgin rape in Numbers 31:7-18, despite having a week to do so.
Did I mention the Holy Spirit is a giant douchebag whose only redeeming quality is that it is fake? Do I have to resort to such childish antics to get you to taje a few moments away from mindlessly quoting scriptute on gay videos to address problems in your doctrine?
I go to a Christian school, and there are many extremely conservative teachers and students with hateful views of homosexuality. I am one of the few students who is willing to stand up for equality and gay rights. God created us all equal, and love is all the same.
I think it's really sad when I see people using their hate to try and destroy the love of others. Thank you for being an inspiration, and I hope other Christians will understand better after watching your videos! :)
This is awesome. Simply awesome. Your life, your testimony is a direct reflection of God's love and Christ's teachings. I have no doubts in my mind that your videos will radically transform people's lives and bring an enormous amount of joy and peace. God bless you all :D
Homosexuals commit more than 33% of all reported child molestations in the United States, which, assuming homosexuals make up 2% of the population, means that 1 in 20 homosexuals is a child molestor, while 1 in 490 heterosexuals is a child molestor
wow! u still reply to a video thats 2 years old! amazing dedication. but i just have a question. umm, im athiest and i wanted to know why the bible states that the world is only a few thousand years old but fossils have been found that are millions of years old. and moises states that he talked to god face to face, but the bible states no man will see god face and live to tell. and john states that jesus said that no man has seen god so,,,, umm im just wondering. if you reply to this. WOW
@HeavensSweetHearts I dont hate you...every one has the right to have their views...The problem is when people use their views to hurt other people by passign laws against gay people is where we would disagree. If you dont want to be gay or get married to some one of the same sex...Dont.
@HeavensSweetHearts I think your reponse is wonderful, but I think it's confusing for me to understand as well as a gay man. I think my friend is in a comparable position as you. Who is my friend, who's religious, but aren't fully supportive of homosexuality. I don't understand, we were born this way, we didn't get to choose. So how do you justify by holding that against us? I'm really interested in knowing your perspective.
@HeavensSweetHearts I don't believe in being a woman. I believe that being a woman is wrong. I don't hate you, though, and I respect your choice. I just don't think it's right.
There is the problem, and one of the many reasons why religion is dangerous. From that comment, it seems that the ONLY reason you have a problem with it is BECAUSE of the Bible, not in spite of it. Your logic is completely overridden by your beliefs. It's "Abomination", not "Obamanation" LMAO. Eating shellfish is also an "abomination" (which, by the way, simply means RITUALLY unclean), according to Leviticus.
...You really haven't even read your Bible, have you?
Ohh, the "Get out of the Old Testament" card. Typical Christian response. You DO know that god calling homosexuality an "abomination" is in the OLD testament, right? Also, Jesus did NOT get rid of old testament law. Jesus fulfilled the sacrificial law by being the "ultimate" sacrifice. Jesus even says in the NT that "not one jot or tittle of the law will be changed until all has come to pass". Those laws, according to Jesus, still apply.
Wow...amazing how stupid you are to think I was defending Christianity. I was actually doing the exact opposite. I was merely highlighting the flaw in saying that the passage about shellfish is okay to chuck out because "it's in the old testament!", while you say "homosexuality is an abomination". Being gay IS NOT wrong, and your "good book" is full of immoral, bronze age nonsense. You need to stop being a sheep and open your eyes. People are born gay...get over it.
You guys are my heros! Thanks for being such an inspiration for so many of us, you are the living proof that being gay and having your own family is possible!
@depfox .. I came across your videos last night and i am quite hooked with it. This particular video makes me quite emotional because you answer everything i couldnt answer by myself. I hope more and more people see your videos and know that we(gay) are no different than others. I truly admire both of you for your courage and for being who you are... Dont get me wrong, i see myself in Bryan.. hehehee... not that i look like him or something, but our character is very much alike. :-)
What works form you guys, Though you should know that Deuteronomy and Leviticus are fake writings addes to the Bible, also the refference to homosexuality in Leviticus isn't even talking about homosexuality, but about a lack of hospitality, while Pauls letters talk about homosexual rituals in fertility temples (done by heterosexual couples), homosexual rape, pederasty and other things unrelated to consenting adults sharing their love.
@TheThordir The bible is full of stuff that modern people dont follow....Cristians love to pick out that man shall not lie with man like women from Laviticus.....then ignore all the other teachings in the same bible that they feel are outdated rules.
Where i come from being religous and being gay are, sadly, 2 totally opposite things. Thats why i consider myself a Unitarian Unversalist... VERY accepting of everything.
I admire the fact that you can admit that you believe based on faith. I used to be a fundamentalist christian, but I cannot believe anything on faith anymore. I do concede though, that as sentient beings relying on our five senses, we take a lot of what we call "reality" based on faith. I think the difference between religious faith and faith in reality, is that with faith in reality, we continually try to verify what we know or believe through science and investigating our world.
The reason why there is hatred to groups of poeple is because their afraid that those people go against the norm just like animals are afraid of things different then them, were just smart animals so we do the same its honestly ignorance/studpidity that causes this im not saying that i find people dumb mind you but that for everyone to accept everyone else everyone has to become smarter and learn cause thats the only way it can work, the sad thing is thats impossible.
What church do you go to? I'm gay and a Christian, but I feel like the "gay" churches aren't necessarily Christian. For instance, I feel like "liberal" churches look at the Bible and say that it's ideas on homosexuality are archaic and unchrist-like, but then it seems Jesus being the Son of God is in question and that kind of thing. I want to find a church where I won't be ostracized, but I don't want to give up some of my core values and beliefs.
@mrneogenesis1 We go to a Unitarian bassed church because our kids are younger...But like you said a lot of Liberal churches dont always preach what we belive. As for the bible it has to be taken in contect of when it was written...the bible was not written by God but by his children. Man makes a million mistakes and even today their are people who look at the original writings of the bible in different ways. I would never go to a church that we say that every part of the bible is a correct.
@mrneogenesis1 I'm from Brazil and in here things are not different, in name of God we suffer prejudice, it's horrible how a person's life can be affected by the ones who use the bible as a constitution, I myself gave up attending the mass because of the horrible speeches made at the altar, the other day I was listening to a gospel song alive and in the middle of the song, the vocalist started paying and he said: Father hold your son, tell him you love him, before a gay person do that {...}.

@ssmurfs continuing... So I definitely gave up getting in contact with those things, specially because they hurt me pretty hard, since a kid I was taken to church and so I was always fighting against my feelings, since I was having or were a "bad influence". I love God and I believe Jesus. You guys made a great change in my life. I hope you all the best!!! you and your lovely kids and... cats. HUGS FROM BRAZIL.
@mrneogenesis1 A lot of them accept gays, but if you aren't monogamous that is still a sin. As far as I have been able to tell, i am Pagan myself, so I don't really know the specifics of christianity.
@SaphiraBrisingr Most Christians pick and choose what they follow these days.....for some reason the parts on homosexuality are more important to them then lets say gods words on divorce...eating pork/seafood and about a thousand other things the bible says are sin.
@depfox Lol my mom came near the computer just know and I immediately turned it so she wouldn't see what I was doing...being in the closet sucks!!!! XD
i.e God gives out orders stoning people is hard to interpret as having even the slightest inspiration from God. The intellectually honest thing to do would be to admit that most of the book must be nothing but the work of uninspired men. Why then call the book holy, when common literature seems far more inspired by goodness (and therefore God according to you I'm guessing?) I have nothing against Christians btw, just disagree with any Christian doctrine and give my honest reasons for it.
More people are forced or intimidated into a religion. I think this is particularly true with Islam. Believe or die! Modern day inquisition.
If all who seriously doubt the existence of any God would openly admit it, the numbers would blow us away! I'd just like to know how many priests and nuns don't believe in any of that Jazz, they just don't want to give up their meal ticket. What about all those child molesters in church leadership positions. Do they all believe their "faith"?
@SynchroTotal totally untrue. we belive that we're not supposed to diss other people's religion. who are you judging again. are you even supposed to judge? we believe only if someone does bad things to you, you deserve equal rights to do back the same. and those terrorist you say are on tv, basically do not deserve our support and respect. don't mean to be rude, but you really should just blurt what you think based on generalism, instead of actually really studying the religion itself.
I don't believe in a deity and am well aware of the Church's history as an avaricious organization of lies and terror, but calling the Islamic religion, one of the most progressive in the world, a modern day inquisition makes you look like a complete idiot. Sure Islam, like Christianity, traditionally tries to convert individuals but it would never condone your hyperbolic statement of killing for converts. Only a few Muslim nations are governed in that fashion, but they definitely
don’t represent the majority of Muslims (less than 10%)and are complete contradictions to the Quran. The Muslims are also an accepting people of all religions (for some time not towards Christians though who slaughtered them indiscriminatingly)as well as of sciences and secularist ideology. Without them the liberal world of today would have yet to be founded.
In America alone more Muslims support the Theory of Evolution than practicing Christians and in my nation many of them are accepting of homosexuals as well. You can’t just come up with such a ridiculous notion from what the media subjectively depicts.
It is about time America woke up to the blight of bigotry from those who do a lot of "Hating". Your family is wonderful and I really hope you never meet the bigotry that is producted in the southern states. Religion helps keeps the bigotry alive. I hope you teach your children that these people who preach hate are the narrow minded part of the christian faith ! Lovely video and wish you well in the future !
Wow I must say I've never seen a gay Christian family but this vid has helped me a bit I can kinda relate to the hate ppl give you I am bisexual I get hate from EVERYBODY nd as far as God nd religion go I do believe in Him nd I don't believe He hates us for being who we are my parents don't like me bein bi one, they think I want attention or I'm goin thru a phase two they always say that God doesn't hate gays he hates the acts they do but I really don't see the difference I believe they are jus
@Killnatas Look at it this way. When I tell a lie, God doesn't hate me. He does hate my lying. I ask Him to forgive me and help me do better next time. He still loves me, just hates that I told a lie. Or remember when you were a kid and your parents would punish you. They didn't stop loving you, but there were consequences to your action.
Thank you thank you thank you! I love that the two of you address this! :) I'm a christian. Born and raised. My father is the youth pastor of the church I grew up in. So christianity is nothing new to me. I love that ya'll are showing that you can be both gay and christian. It always bothers me to so many people claim that they are "christian" and then bash others and spew hatred all in the same breath. The main theme of the bible as a whole and just each book individually is LOVE! God is Love!
My mom and step-dad and sisters and I are straight, and Christian, but we don't go to church, because we are trying to find a church that does not preach that being gay is a sin. We have gay friends and family members and we would never be apart of a church that preaches hate.
@FUNNYMONEYKID10 Hey that's great! I am an exfundamentalist evangelical myself. In th eUS the United Church of Christ can be great, as can some United Methodist or Presbeterian, or United Lutheran. Espiscopalian can also be gay positive. good Luck on your search for a church that teaches the Truth!
@reverandjames I live in WV where the majority is Presbeterian-I go to my friends Presbterian church which is pretty cool and my other friend's church which is a very modern and accepting Christian church so I'm hoping we might go to that one.
@FUNNYMONEYKID10 That's great! I hope that particular Presb. Church is one of the liberal ones and not one that has moved backwards to their leteralist roots. Are you aware of the Soulforce organisation? If not be sure to check them out on =line. They are really great!
Thank you for sending this video to me hon. I really thank you for the wise message. you sound like my father when you talk about people being the same especially when you said that gays love the same way that straight loves. You are so right with what you said and I really thank you for the reminder of diversity. Thank you hon :)
I love this video, my husband and I both are looking fot a church to go to, and plan on raising our children as Christians. Again Gad bless your family, this is great to see.
One thing I always was taught as a child is 'Walk by faith, not by sight' We live our lives the way he proceeds it, how he gives us the glow/ or is a beacon to gain knowledge of faith, no matter what kind of faith.. Spirituality, or other religions.
Thank you Thank you Thank you. Gay people really need a family model cuz honestly... I didn't have a clue of what a gay family would look like bfore looking at your vids. And of course, straight people need this the most for understanding and respecting diversity.
First of all, I am very happy that even though you are gay, you arent discouraged to believe in god. Some gay people dont like religion because they feel that God hates them (since theyre gay) - NOT TRUE! God loves everybody, thats why he made everybody the way they are. Also, your cats are adorable. May God and Jesus Christ bless your family!
I think it's sick that people who declare themselves as Christian dare to judge you. Isn't that God's prerogative? As a gay atheist, we may disagree on religious issues, but I'm glad you two are well-adjusted, happy and found two kids to raise.
i love how open minded you guys are.... yall think a lot like i do... I think people are just afraid of what they dont or cant understand.... I think people who choose to be of christian faith should learn to be loving and kind to others just like God has asked us to be.... instead they take Gods job and put it into there own hands and judge others... im sorry but no one is perfect and people need to look in the mirror at there own life and souls before they judge other people.
Subbed. I agree we should be allowed to believe whatever we want. I bet it's hard for you but at least you live in a liberal state like California and that you have a church which accepts you. I think people who are gay and have faith in God will do more for getting gay rights than those who are trying to fight from the outside, when xstians are gay and wonderful, faithful kind people its way harder to hate them. Here's to hoping that love takes over and hate dissolves. BTW I'm an atheist :)
What a great family you have. God has given you both the gift of faith - faith is how we live - the righteous live by faith. And whoever abides in love Abides in god and god in he for god is love. Stay strong and I praise you for caring so wonderfully for your children. God bless
I Love this Video! As a Gay man and a Buddhist, I too find a lot of conflict with the Gay community and religious faith. It's good to see a rational response to this conflict. Thanks
I already loved your videos and then i found this one! I'm a gay Christian and have struggled with that for quite a long time so i really wanna thank you for giving me hope and making me realise that there are others like me out there.
Wow, you both are so real, honest and loving and you both have a wonderful concept of the love of God. Thank you for putting yourself out there for us to see and to understand that you are gay, and normal! It is wonderful to see normal gay men who are not flighty and way out in left field .Thank you for your 'ministry' to show the world how we are all so much more alike than different.
Gods blessing on you both and your beautiful children. I really appreciate this ..

First of all, I'd like to think both of you, along with your children, for making this video. It's been nearly 3 months since I've come out completely and recently I've found myself questiong my own religion. I figured if the bible says I'm going to hell for being gay, why go to church? This video has made me realize so much about what gay people really are and that there is so much more out there. I could go on and on but running out of space. Thank you again and you all have a beautiful family
hello there! i just wanted to say i think its amazing that you have these videos and that you have the strength to be parents to these beautiful children who deserve a loving home :) and i want to thankyou for making these videos because they have been heartwearming and hopefilling to a girl still considering her own sexuality :)
Jay you & I seem to have very similer view on God & faith. I too believe God spoke the "word" too man with utter perfection. But what man ended up putting down on paper is well.........less than perfect. & Bryan what you said about following your inner star was just beautiful. I have cut all ties with the church many years ago. & for reasons that go far beyond homosexuality. SEX (of any kind) MONEY, & POLITICS have corrupted man made religion. So I kicked it to the curb long ago.
How do you live as Christians without dividing your heart and lives in to "acceptable" bits, with other people in the church. I have found some antagonistic towards me in one way or another, when seeking a more integrated life as a gay man. Been told OK if I don,t seek to practice my sexuality - they focus on the sex but, I am thinking of the loss of companionship and love. Would like reply if possible. Thanks for the video it felt real and pray for Gods love to be with you.
I'm very new to your channel, I only found it today actually, but i just wanted to say how refreshing i find this video. Your church sounds a fantastic place for a family to attend its very nice to hear they are so open minded.
@depfox By the way Leffew Dads, what would be your policy of your viewers discussing Adult topics in the comments of your videos? I know that you supervise your kids internet access, like all good responsible and aware parents should. But it seems that one can never be too careful with what their kids can find on the internet these days. I'm a straight atheist but I'm also a Huge Fan of your channel and your Blog and I respect almost anyone's beliefs (within reason). Keep up the Great Work!
Being gay and a Christian, I find it appalling that 99.99% of Christians don't take their belief serious enough to learn ancient Greek and Hebrew and read the Bible in it's original language. When you read the verses that talk about "homosexuality" in the original language, you realize that they aren't even talking about homosexuality. When asked what the greatest commandment was, Jesus said to love God and to love others. That is the only thing Christians should be doing. Loving, and not hating
@hardinmichael1981 The term "homosexual" comes from the late 1800s, when human sexuality first began to be studied as a science. There is no word that means homosexual orientation in any of the ancient languages that the Bible was written in, so the authors of the Bible didn't think in terms of oh he's homosexual, she's bisexual, etc. Words like "qadesh" are often MIStranslated as sodomite or homosexual, when it is really describing prostitution.
@hardinmichael1981 In fact, EVERY time you read the word sodomite or homosexual in the Bible, it is a mistranslation which is really talking about rape, prostitution, or sexual abuse.
Might that not be because the authors of the bible could not really understand authentic consensual homosexuality? Perhaps they thought the only reason a man might want to have sex with another man was because he wanted to rape him and show dominance over him? The ancient Greeks & Romans (but especially the Greeks sure understood many different forms of what we today would call "homosexuality". We know of course that ALL forms of sexual pleasure were frowned upon in the Bible.
@hardinmichael1981 Furthermore, the main point of the Bible is to teach us to love each other. Jesus said the only thing we should be doing is loving God and loving each other (Matt 22). Passages in the Old Testament apply to a specific culture at a specific time, and Jesus' specifically says that the only commandment to live by is love. And since every verse referring to homosexuality is mistranslated, just do one thing: love. Do two gay men loving each other fall into this category? Of course.
Most likely, the only way for an ancient Jew (or almost anyone) to have gay sex in the ancient Roman empire may have been to turn to prostitution. That is the case in many societies throughout the world to this very day.
@hardinmichael1981 I don't think I agree with what you're saying. The Bible doesn't frown upon sex at all. God wouldn't create humans to be sexual and then tell them it's bad. Verses that give regulations on sex in the Old Testament were for health reasons (to prevent STDs, incest (because of birth defects), etc.) just like eating not eating certain animals or shellfish. These were to protect a population that didn't have science to show them what's healthy and what's not.
I like the last segment where you talk about God loving his Creation. And you know what? You're absolutely right. I personally do believe that homosexuality is a sin because the Bible clearly states in numerous times. BUT, God knows our hearts and He is the ultimate judge. I'm not gonna tell you guys that you'll burn in Hell cause that's not for me to say. You obviously seem like great guys who love God. And I respect you for that. Just read the Bible for yourselves if you haven't and maybe...
Y'all are brilliant, your family is beautiful and you stand for what you believe in all of you.I wish when I was growing up I had parents as wonderful as you two.Thank you so much for sharing your family and answering the questions of the masses.Blessed be.

Are you sure you're a gay family? How do you know your kids are gay, aren't they a little young to have worked out whether they're gay or straight yet?
MynameisElliott 4 days ago

"they don't teach that homosexuality is a sin"

However, he reinstated some commands, 1 being don't practice homosexuality
paint14872 4 months ago

andrewtokyo12 4 months ago
@andrewtokyo12 I would only say that the Bible was written by God through man. We could get into why I believe that if you'd like, but for now I will state simply that if you start picking and choosing what is from God and what isn't, then you open up a snowball effect which inevitably makes believing the Bible foolish. However, if you believe Jesus is God as the Bible teaches, then his story from cover to cover, must be truth because God would not allow a tainted story of himself to be told.
paint14872 4 months ago
@paint14872 i am not going to argue because i am not good at debate but i was told god loves everyone the way they are and if he hated homosexuals then why would he continue to let me live just saying(sorry for the spelling errors my spell check is not working)
andrewtokyo12 4 months ago
@andrewtokyo12 I want to make it very clear before there is a misconception that God absolutely loves everyone in the sense that he desires all would place their faith in Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection. The fact that he let's any of us live (all of us being sinners) is grace and love in and of itself. That being said, he is not ok with us continuing in sin if we call ourselves Christians. He knows that it is the best thing for us to follow his word and uphold it

Again...read your Bible.

I want to find a church where I won't be ostracized, but I don't want to give up some of my core values and beliefs.
mrneogenesis1 1 year ago
@mrneogenesis1 We go to a Unitarian bassed church because our kids are younger...But like you said a lot of Liberal churches dont always preach what we belive. As for the bible it has to be taken in contect of when it was written...the bible was not written by God but by his children. Man makes a million mistakes and even today their are people who look at the original writings of the bible in different ways. I would never go to a church that we say that every part of the bible is a correct.

SaphiraBrisingr 1 year ago
@SaphiraBrisingr Most Christians pick and choose what they follow these days.....for some reason the parts on homosexuality are more important to them then lets say gods words on divorce...eating pork/seafood and about a thousand other things the bible says are sin.

i.e God gives out orders stoning people is hard to interpret as having even the slightest inspiration from God.

SynchroTotal 1 year ago
@SynchroTotal totally untrue. we belive that we're not supposed to diss other people's religion. who are you judging again. are you even supposed to judge? we believe only if someone does bad things to you, you deserve equal rights to do back the same. and those terrorist you say are on tv, basically do not deserve our support and respect. don't mean to be rude, but you really should just blurt what you think based on generalism, instead of actually really studying the religion itself.

@SynchroTotal

@SynchroTotal

@reverandjames I live in WV where the majority is Presbeterian-I go to my friends Presbterian church which is pretty cool and my other friend's church which is a very modern and accepting Christian church so I'm hoping we might go to that one.

Thank you again.

God bless

Thank you for putting yourself out there for us to see and to understand that you are gay, and normal!

@ darkmatter88
ALL sexual pleasure is sinful according to the Bible. GAY sexual pleasure only even more so.
hardinmichael1981 1 year ago
Being gay and a Christian, I find it appalling that 99.99% of Christians don't take their belief serious enough to learn ancient Greek and Hebrew and read the Bible in it's original language. When you read the verses that talk about "homosexuality" in the original language, you realize that they aren't even talking about homosexuality. When asked what the greatest commandment was, Jesus said to love God and to love others. That is the only thing Christians should be doing. Loving, and not hating
darkmatter88 1 year ago
@darkmatter88 If the bible was not referring to "homosexuality" then what was it referring to?
hardinmichael1981 1 year ago
@hardinmichael1981 The term "homosexual" comes from the late 1800s, when human sexuality first began to be studied as a science. There is no word that means homosexual orientation in any of the ancient languages that the Bible was written in, so the authors of the Bible didn't think in terms of oh he's homosexual, she's bisexual, etc. Words like "qadesh" are often MIStranslated as sodomite or homosexual, when it is really describing prostitution.
darkmatter88 1 year ago
@hardinmichael1981 In fact, EVERY time you read the word sodomite or homosexual in the Bible, it is a mistranslation which is really talking about rape, prostitution, or sexual abuse.
darkmatter88 1 year ago
@darkmatter88
We know of course that ALL forms of sexual pleasure were frowned upon in the Bible.
hardinmichael1981 1 year ago
@hardinmichael1981 Furthermore, the main point of the Bible is to teach us to love each other. Jesus said the only thing we should be doing is loving God and loving each other (Matt 22). Passages in the Old Testament apply to a specific culture at a specific time, and Jesus' specifically says that the only commandment to live by is love. And since every verse referring to homosexuality is mistranslated, just do one thing: love. Do two gay men loving each other fall into this category? Of course.
darkmatter88 1 year ago
@darkmatter88
Most likely, the only way for an ancient Jew (or almost anyone) to have gay sex in the ancient Roman empire may have been to turn to prostitution. That is the case in many societies throughout the world to this very day.
hardinmichael1981 1 year ago
@hardinmichael1981 I don't think I agree with what you're saying. The Bible doesn't frown upon sex at all. God wouldn't create humans to be sexual and then tell them it's bad. Verses that give regulations on sex in the Old Testament were for health reasons (to prevent STDs, incest (because of birth defects), etc.) just like eating not eating certain animals or shellfish. These were to protect a population that didn't have science to show them what's healthy and what's not.
