He visto a Pink Floyd en vivo, pero esa gira en particular me hubiera gustado asistir pero era un niño. Mi hermano si lo hizo, que envidia,de la buena; porsupuesto
One has to say, in light of some of the negative comments, it's very easy to criticise a live performance; we judge them by the recorded version we know so well.
All anyone can really say is thank God for David Gilmour, Roger Waters and the rest of the PF crew for creating an enduring masterpiece of which this is an undoubted and all-time highlight.
Masterful playing by Gilmour over four decades of music, Pink Floyd just get better with every listen.
@millsy2010 Hell, I think half the "problem" with this, if there is any is that the recording equipment in the 1980's sucked compared to what is available today. Shit, they threw down on this like they always do.
I was there, four days before my 21st birthday and it was SUPERB. It's a pity the sound on this video can't capture the emotion i felt on that special night.
Gilmour has said it was his favourite part of the show, as he was free from the headphone chatter (he was musical director on the tour) and could focus on doing what he loved best, trying to make his playing a little better each night, "belting out the solo to one of the best pieces of music [he'd] ever written".
Some people are saying how he must of been shit scared up there regardless if he's a guitar god or not. But honestly look how intent he was playing that instrument...it probably didn't even fucking phase him.. ;)
waters ,,,, crazy , insane ,, in his youth , spoiled ,,,genius,,, Waters today ,, seasoned professional ,,, appreciative ,genius ,, The two gods of rock needed each other
@Griskabora Mate your only gonna get hates for saying something like that, shredding really isn't what makes a good guitarist, so you just go and shred in your room by yourself for however long you want cause we really don't care. When you mature, come back out of your room and then try an learn what real music is actually all about. :)
@adammrowka That was a stupid and unnecessary comment and only a retarded person would make it! He was biting his bottom lip and got caught in a really blurry silhouette. You only WISH you were as great as David Gilmour!! DUH!!
The middle solo in this song is so LITTLE, SHORT, SIMPLE and POWERFULL!!! I wonder how many guitarists in the WHOLE world can do such a thing!? This guy is incredible!..Have to put a comment here for the idiots saying he plays slow, well, YES!.. he is not the fatest guitarist in the world, but the feeling he puts in his strings!.. is like he knows how to make the connection with God and translate His words into melodies and notes!..
Many fast guitarists play fast to cover up the fact that they have no sense of phrasing or melody, so they overcompensate with dexterity. That's an enviable skill in itself, but they don't make the instrument sing and speak as a player like David Gilmour does.
And I have yet to hear someone in Gilmour's league who doesn't respect what he does.
If you can't feel the music, feel the lead, then it can never be explained. FAST does NOT equal good! Nor does SLOW. It's not about the speed. To me, a guitar solo is all about how the person playing it feels. It should speak to you as if they are singing it. Gilmour is/was one of the best. IMHO
I read somewhere long ago Gilmour used to record himself scat-singing to the demos of the songs he was to solo to. Then he'd learn the notes he sang on guitar and develop the solos from there. If you listen extensively to his guitar work, that's a very plausible explanation as to why he sounds so melodic. Instead of just throwing a barrage of notes at you, he offers real melodies within a song's structure; a song-within-a-song.
@Griskabora Oh God, do you even know who he is? Name one guitarrist, Page, Beck, even Clapton, David Gilmour outweeights them all ONLY with this song, not mentioning he is also a singer and a composer.
On his own admission he can't play fast. He loses coordination when he tries, so he stays within his capabilities and exploits that. And he does it sooooooooooo well. You can just get lost in solos like this (the good way).
And he has said his favorite guitarist is Jeff Beck.
i just got back from holland on monday, flew over to see roger do the wall in concert in arnhem, words just cant describe how good it was, the experience of a lifetime

I saw Roger Waters and "The Wall -- Live" in Boston twice on this tour. Most amazing show I've ever seen. Would have loved it if Gilmour had been there, but the guitarist was great and the singer did fine.
Next concert I go to is really gonna suck by comparison.
@har9020 I was at the Boston Show too (sunday night)!! simply amazing.. I said the same thing on the way home ...."I think that was the best show I've ever seen!" I hope the show comes back to boston!

Damn, I can't wait til September. I just won 2 free tickets to see the Wall. I hope David shows up at the Chicago shows. He most likely will make the appearance at Earl's Court, but who knows :D .
oh my god. that solo was AWESOME!!!!!!! to me personally, as far as moving audiences' emotions goes, clapton and gilmour both have equal caliburs in that area. nobody else impressed and moved me more than those two extraordinary men.
@yyzllp i've seen some footage that looked really good, it's just this copy isn't as good because it's from someones collection. I think the footage I saw was on the special features for the wall movie dvd.
@zosojplp what? never seen Pink Floyd "Live at Pompeii"? in my opinion it is THE BEST of Pink Floyd. doesn't include anything from "wish you were here" or "animals" though. that kinda sucks.
That other person probably meant there isn't a more inclusive good quality film of Pink Floyd from the 1970's. Like you said, no "Wish you were Here," ec cetera. It would be nice to see "Dark Side" and so forth in a good release like the original "Pompeii" concert film.
It's called "Is There Anybody Out There?" This may be what you were asking. I like it a zillion times more than the original; it's better on every level.
I don't mean to upset any hard core foyd fan as I am one my self, but i'm not too keen on this version of the solo, dunno if its the effects or what but I prefer the Live 8 or Pulse (obvs cos that is epic). Still I'm nit picking... What a great performance would give anything to have been there!
I recently read Roger explaining excaclty what this song was about, it's pretty cool. Apparantly he had a similar experience described here. Before doing a gig on the Animals tour, there was something wrong with Roger's hands (forgot what) and he couldn't play. So they called a doctor and numbed his hands so he could play, but he couldn't feel anything.
Anyway, the point of the song is that, in Roger's experience, people that handle gigs generally don't care about their musicians.
As long as they sell the tickets and their musicians can perform. He said he was also forced to play at times when he was feeling ill or depressed. Put simply, "The Show Must go on." :)
Actually Roger was having stomach cramps and they gave him some stuff to help him... unfortunately it also made it near impossible for him to hold his bass. His hands were so numb he didn't come out for the encore.
@beerispoormanscupid you re right. clapton has a better vibrato than gilmour... because david use a lot the tremolo.... but gilmour has such a wonderful talent to create those chords... those progressions... in that way... he is better than clapton
@ggwillym, U lucky individual, You don't know what i would give to be at a floyd concert, unfortinatly i was born 13 years to late for this one, and I was two young for pulse, If only i had been at this age when Floyd were in there prime
Today is the 30th anniversary of the release of this album. And yes... I say album because that's what I bought on November 24th, 1979. RIP Sid and Richard!! You are loved and missed deeply!! Shine on you two crazy diamonds!!
@floydian2007 I read a Rollingstone interview with Roger in which one part mentioned him watching "newly restored" footage of the Pink Floyd Wall shows "that will no doubt be one day available to be purchased by fans". I hope he does release a DVD, I can't wait to see quality footage of the Wall shows. Until then, we will just have to live with this and the even granier Nassau Coliseum show. It's better than nothing, though.

No one, to this day, bends notes or has a immaculate vibrato as this gentleman named David Gilmour.

@civilengsi Agreed. Many great guitarists can make the instrument sing; Gilmour is one of the few who can make it cry.

@civilengsi Really? Clapton, Trower, SRV...
beerispoormanscupid 1 year ago
@beerispoormanscupid you re right. clapton has a better vibrato than gilmour... because david use a lot the tremolo.... but gilmour has such a wonderful talent to create those chords... those progressions... in that way... he is better than clapton

@civilengsi and such a full spectrum voice

@civilengsi Slash is terrific with that, so are some blues players, but nobody is better at it than Gilmour that's for sure.

floydian2007 2 years ago 48
@floydian2007 I read a Rollingstone interview with Roger in which one part mentioned him watching "newly restored" footage of the Pink Floyd Wall shows "that will no doubt be one day available to be purchased by fans". I hope he does release a DVD, I can't wait to see quality footage of the Wall shows. Until then, we will just have to live with this and the even granier Nassau Coliseum show. It's better than nothing, though.
