  • Please show us how to install it on a spare box!

  • I love the fact you can hear the hard disk working away there :)

  • @julietcharlieen1 :D yes indeed I'll have to upload a video of my SparcStations running.. they are much louder! sound like jet planes... or x-wing fighers from star wars lol I just have to get some decent software on them first. I also intend to upload a video of Haiku OS with is the successor the the operating system you see in the video here.

  • @cusbrar1 I'd like to see that! We used to have Spark stations at work with 5 SCSI drives each. They were LOUD and generated so much heat!

  • @ftwoeightfilms 5 drives? Hmm the pizzabox SparcStations only fit 2 drives which model? I have SS2 SS5 SS10 U1e and U10 creator 3d. Maybe you had external drives?

  • @cusbrar1 A friend gave me an old dual Pentium-Pro Workstation/Server (dead now) with some 9GiB SCSI drive a few years ago. While running the mkfs for a FreeBSD install, it sounded like a helicopter was landing on my roof.

The SCSI drive in my PowerMac G3 blue/white (still kicking with Debian) is loud enough to be heard from three rooms away.

  • @endikapaino2 watch the language

  • I once had 27 videos running on BeOS - p2 350 256mg of ram . I couldn't do that on my new monster machine running XP. The fastest OS I ever ran, you think that Microsoft or Apple would have used it.

  • where can i download the original BeoS 5 ?

  • @giova50000 you can download R5 Pe .... just search for BeOS MAX or there is a torrent of other versions though their legality is debatable. Also don't forget that burning BeOS CDs is differnt on windows you'll need something like Imgburn to burn the .bin and .cue file (open the .cue with the burning program) There are instructions to do this online elsewhere as well for Linux (it isn't too hard I've done it before on Linux and Windows its just different)

  • @cusbrar1 Hi, can comparate BeOS and MacOs?

  • @mannaggialapaletta not really unless I were to compare MacOS 9 on a PPC Mac comptuer and BeOS and I don't own one... so no. As far as modern Mac OS X then... well its over 10 years newer so it wouldn't be fair to compare them. I don't have much interesting in comparing things anyway you can download Haiku which is the logical descendant of BeOS though and compare it to whatever you want... haiku-os dot org Haiku can run most x86 BeOS software and even some of the drivers.

  • @giova50000 Oh I forgot to mention this is R5 PE in BeOS MAX form in the video... it should acutally be better than the original R5 as it includes a few more device drivers so definitely go for BeOS MAX as it is legal and slightly better.

  • my good old Abit BP6 system still kicking beside that I had to put some passive alucoolers onto the north- and southbridge chips.

Maybe I will test it with Haiku :)

  • @Nord72 Wait what!? you still have a working BP6 mobo?!! thats awesome, mine blows up some years ago. feels bad.

  • Is it possible to install BeOS under QEMU?

  • should be ...

  • you had a fairly impressive computer for its time. i'd download the latest version of beos if i thought it'd be worth my time. i like collecting OSes. linux is my favorite os and i use it all the time. i only use windows xp for gaming and nothing else. beos, mac, solaris, and os2 warp are the only OSes i have to get and i've got one from every company, i just never got around to doing it

  • no I got this computer after it had depreciated to about $20 lol

  • Greatest multimedia OS ever created...

  • lol im looking up this card cus i was screwing around with my dads old comp and i found this card in it! lol compared to my 8800gt this is shit (no offense)

  • yes I am well aware... it barely runs openarena at minimum res and that is with most of the texture packs removed

its pretty decent if you need a VGA card and don't care about 3D though considering it was free

  • it was free? dam wish they made cards like GTX 260 free...

  • one day the GTX 260 will be free I assure you lol

this was actually a half decent card in its time...probably like a 9300gs is now

I have a friend with the dual gpu version of the rage pro it was called the Rage Fury MAXX it only worked in dual gpu mode for win98 though X.x

  • someday they will sell a GTX295 for $1 at a garage sale lol

  • You are still my hero with that dial up.

I remember using BeOS R4 back in 1999. Then I was running a Power3 & was incredibly lucky to get up to 190MHz.
