@MsDurza Actually that IS Dracula himself. They only went with the "Son of Dracula" title because of the success of Dracula's daughter. Not once in the entire film do they say he's Dracula's son.
this movie along with dracula should be remade by ether tim burton, peter jackson, or michel bay or better yet all 3 of them work together to remake them . sorry for typo in early version of comment
@crazystein65 Dracula is a no, that film still holds up today. Michael Bay is a no, he makes films from decent to travesty. But if Jackson or Burton did a remake of this film, preferably Jackson, I wouldn't be disappointed.

who thinks that alucard is really the wolf man as a vampire. because in legend the peaple thought that if a werewolf was killed it would return as vampire. so the wolf man named himself that so he can pose as draculas son
@crazystein65 You know Alucard is Dracula spelt backward, right? It's meant to be Dracula himself in disguise. it's only called Son of Dracula because of the success of Dracula's daughter.
@EdJGy This was the very first film where any Dracula used that alias. It's Dracula spelt backward and at the time it was very clever, it hadn't been done to death yet.
@EdJGy This was the first film in which Dracula used the alias Alucard (Dracula backward) this was the first time it was done. At the time it was considered clever.
@jasonfrank20 I prefer to see it as he always fakes his own death. He always, always comes back. All of Christopher Lee's Dracula roles, for example, directly tied into the film before it.
Lugosi was far better than Chainey (and Carradine), but I always considered Chainey to be an intersting link between the aloof magnetic Lugosi, and the more physical Chrisopher Lee (who's interpretation depending a great deal on German Robles El Vampiro.
He presented himself as Count Alucard, as you said, but the identified him as te Count himself during the course of the movie.
Presumably it got it's title from the fact that Lon Chaney Sr was a front runner for the part in '31, but died of throat cancer.
Jr. played the count more physically than Chaney, and led directly to Lee's style of performance. The idea that one could desire oneself to become a vampire was new, as was te sense of tragic ending.
@theman2017inc Technically no. No where in the actual film does he call himself Dracula's son or heir or offspring. It's in the title and trailer but that's it. He just calls himself Dracula (Alucard being the alias as Dracula spelt backward).
This movie is available on the "Dracula Legacy Collection" which was issued a few years back. I'm still hoping that the Universal Monster Collection (and Hammer Horror as well) will receive an "upgrade" for Blu-Ray sometime soon.
Is a legacy collection for Hammer in the works? I know that they've lumped some movies together, but they're usually unrelated or incomplete. They'd have pure gold if they put together a seperate collection for Hammer's Frankenstein and Dracula series.
@jbthejellybean Alucard IS Dracula. Alucard = Dracula backward. Not once in the actual film do they call him the son. It's just the title the distributor went with. This was originally going to be called "Return of Dracula" or something like that but they saw how successful Daughter of Dracula was.
he is stil not strong like his father

The only thing I hate about Dracula movies is that he always gets killed at the end.

@ysbaddaden2003 But Chaney wasn't playing Dracula per say, he was playing his offspring, his decent.
Lon Chaney Jr showed the limit of acting talents when he took the lead role of Count Alucard.
Gloria Holden was far superior as offspring of the Vampire Count in "Dracula's Daughter" and sexier too!
