@RAHellion The best way to learn to stop is by forming a T with your skates, with the braking foot in the back, and at a 90 degree angle to the other foot. Of course, you "could" try stopping the same way as they do on ice, but that takes a higher level of ability than would be present in most beginning roller skaters.

Except for the scissor move (too hard on a beginner), all advice is proper, should however be accompanied by the appropriate action in all stages, either by the attractive teacher or a demonstrator, as for instance, in the advice given for the correct posture. That might be well demonstrated in movement, perhaps contrasted with a demonstration of how NOT to move along, underlined by a fake fall.
