ryan if you didnt turn out so many of the best songs i have ever heard I might pick this is the best song I have ever heard... maybe it's just the strawberry wine talking tonight;)
bos78 are you kidding? A twelve year old? That's hilarious. There are many songs that only the person who wrote it knows the meaning behind it. In my book that only makes the song more interesting.
this song is about lots of people and characters all connected by some idea of what 'strawberry wine' is. i think its essentially about music and songwriting in a weird kind of way. this is as good a song as ryan has ever written i think. what a tune.
'can you have any famous last words, if you're somebody nobody knows?' brilliant
What is this song about? It doesn't make sense to me and it sounds sort of like something a 12 year old would write. Its hard to believe the same person who wrote Meadowlake Street and I Taught Myself To Grow Old wrote this.
this song is about strawberry wine. and different people. you asking "what is this song about?" is like asking what queens of the stone age's song "no one knows" is about. no one knows. who cares. it's a fucking song. could you write better lyrics?
I tried to write songs when I was in junior high and now they sound really silly like this one. So no, I couldn't write better lyrics, but Ryan Adams can. He has written tons of amazing lyrics, I just think this isn't his best. I don't think its bad really, I've listen to this album a thousand times already.
It's actually a very well-written song. Partially about spending too much time on the other side of the bar. About losing your soul to disillusionment and false notions of happiness. With several narratives going along at once. I don't think any twelve year old could write anything close to as beautiful/sad/powerful as this song. Actually, I don't understand why you'd pick on this song of all, it's one of my favorites of his.
oh man, been trying to find a youtube video of this that has good sound quality, this is probably the best one! One of the Ryan's best work, and excellent intro in this one.
i was at this show it was awsome thanks for sharing this file i can now remember exactly when this show was i much prefered it to when he played songs nobody knew in birmingham later that year with the cardinals
this is one of my favorite songs to listen to when it's raining.

the first song on 29 reminds me of "Truckin" from the Greatful Dead....
cerpinvismund 3 years ago
@cerpinvismund yeah. ryan pretty much took truckin' and rewrote the lyrics to it. i don't think he'd deny it either.

why did he stop in the middle of the song?
greengirl0078 3 years ago
Good question. I can't actually remember for sure, but I think he was asking the sound tech to turn down the monitor.
