The streaks are due to the reflection of sunlight off of the Voyager spacecraft. If you haven't seen it already, check out the "Pale Blue Dot" video, which contains a speech from Carl Sagan about that single picture. Truly amazing.
@CitizenErased24 Thanks for that, the Carl Sagan video was great too. James Lovelock expresses a similar epiphany upon first seeing the "earth rise" from the moon picture. The contrast of the dead moon and the clearly vastly different earth inspired him to develope his theory of Gaia which personally i find to be very satisfying.
The only thing I have to comment on is that none of you seem to know the difference between our solar system and the universe.
The solar system is comprised of everything that goes around our sun, Sol. Other systems with planets and such revolving around them are called star systems and/or planetary systems. On a larger scale, millions and billions of such systems can combine to create galaxies. Going out further, there are galaxy clouds. And the universe is basically everything we know of.
No one here is struggling with the concept of what the Solar System is. I think they're reflecting on some of the deeper issues which arise in astronomy. Our place in the Universe etc. And I believe the term is galaxy 'clusters', not 'clouds'.
@Googlagahummike thanks professor for the lecture! but thanks to CitizenErased24 for for the vd, must admit that the eagle nebula will always be my favorite star body
It's just kinda weird that theres these Millions of planets out there and there doesn't even appear to be an end in the solar system so what would happen if we just kept going.. would we find anything there? .. and there must be some other source of life on these planets there can't be just us.. can there?
and It's annoying how we've only managed to step foot on ..the moon and thats basically it..
and we can't go on other planets because theres a risk we might 'die' xD

@CitizenErased24 Apart from ThePokemonBR, who said the Solar System appears to be endless with millions of planets.
