Pluto is one of many bodies orbiting the earth known to astronomers as 'kuiper belt objects'. If Pluto were counted as a planet, then we'd have to include all of the other small bodies in the kuiper belt system. Grandparents can still claim Pluto is a planet because that is what they thought years ago. Sorry but contemporary science says it isn't a planet anymore. The same science that put men on the moon in the late 1960's and early 70's [The Apollo missions]

The 'vote' is not a vote but a petition, you can't signify 'no'. Do you want to do away with the definition of planet, or change it? There's no way put forth to define planets that would include Pluto and not include Eris, Ceres, Haumea and Makemake, so we either have 8 planets or 13.

I have a problem with the term 'Dwarf', however, because there could be a planet out there that meets the criteria but is larger than Earth or Mercury. Pluto is 1/2 the diameter of Mercury

it's pretty funny that the reason they give for Pluto not being a planet is the wrong reason. Pluto is big enough it's b/c of its orbit passes through Saturn's orbit makes it not a planet. Size does effect the orbit but if its orbit didnt pass through any of the other planet's orbit then it would be a planet

Quite doubtful. It is a Kuiper Belt Object (which is a little like the Asteroid Belt, but farther out), and there had been larger things discovered (such as Eris) that had not been named planets.
