I recall this match so well. It simply doesn't seem like 41 years ago but the whole country (bar a particular corner of North London) was behind 'The Town'. The awful pitch, much like a quagmire, was a great leveller and, of course, the 'Horse of the Year' show made matters worse. Particularly poignant for me was the fact that my team played there a month later in the FA Cup Final when the pitch had barely improved, and lost.
Is Alty (the Southport substitute) any relation to Carl Alty of HMHB (Half Man Half Biscuit)?

@Glamagal20091 the caption is from Swedish TV and is incorrect, match was played in 1968. Swindon and Southport were in different divisions in 1965.
