@pinkpanthercow Man you don't know a damn thing lol. Rotary's don't last long AT ALL. Especially if you plan on driving em hard. Not to mention parts for an LSx are MUCH more common than a rotary. Btw... if rotary motors are so amazing how come no other auto manufacturer has attempted to pioneer them? Just because it's different doesn't necessarily mean it's better bud.
@need2speed94 asshole what other 1308cc piston engine doing 6sec in the world,NONE,so just fuck off,and read and learn, educate yourself, and stop being a cunt hole pussy.if you guys cant build and tune the rotary right, say so,thats why you gay guys say the rotary is not realiable, ask the puereto ricans, austraillans, new zealands, etc, get you facts right.fucking haters.
@pinkpanthercow Not hating... but simply informing you. Think about it... theres barely any videos of fast rotary's. sure the ones on here are fast as hell but you never see that in person, sorry bud.
To each their own, and congrats on your successful build.
And to all of you hating the american V8 in a JDM car, you're just a nuthugger, you don't truly respect tuning. It's not like this guy is dumping junk parts that do nothing for performance except for aethetic taste (looks). And most of you probably never touched anything beyond the bolt-ons. Look up on the LS7 it is a fine piece of engineering, and it is more reliable than the rotary, which is a good street tune.
lol does no one on youtube understand the fact that a rotary was built for the soul purpose to race and like everyone knows but you ppl that racing engines dont last long... a rotary is not a daily driven car... get that though your thick skulls...
@Tj1056 So your saying Mazda didn't ever intend the rotary to be a daily driver? You should look up the history of the rotatory and the numerous cars it came in and see if you still have the same opinion. Here let me provide you the resources because being completely uninformed and thinking your right has got to be a pain in the ass to deal with at times. mazada dot com /mazdaspirit/rotary/
@SkeenDogger well I was talking more of the lines of the fd3s like in this video ^^ they are the twin turbo rotary 13b about 13mpg city stock and if mod get even less :p it is not a great daily driven car for the soul purpose of it being a high revving motor and daily driven you dont rail it all over the place
@Tj1056 haha, like any engine, heat and abuse take their toll. I beat the crap out of a '82 12a Rx7 for 5 years and it never died. I always wanted a muscle car so I made one. In order to get the power n torque like a good V8 out of a rotary it takes serious molesting and boosting thus reducing its to last thru the abuse and heat. If I had a chance to go back in time and rebuild n boost the blown 13b in my 86 instead of doing the sbc swap, I would still do the swap. Its cheaper and more reliable.
yeah rotos can be built up, but ive heard from alot of guys that have them,,,,, that is when the real work begins...... keeping it on the road and out of the garage.
The car's engine was probably blown as rotaries usually are. So, you can either have a V8 monster with tons of power and reliability or a rotary powered car that doesn't run.
haha love it, knew that comment would provoke a response. but your still all wrong. to be fair though the rx's that mazda made for the american market had nothing on the jap and european versions. but just throwing a vette engine in it doesnt make it any better...you can argue all day about it being almost as light as a 13b, and that it sounds like a 'weedeater'...but frankly your talking out of your ringpiece. wanna know how to tune an rx? watch a video called 'bad rx7'.
Nice man, I think the LS swap makes total sense. Dont get me wrong the 13B is a great engine but, not a hell of alot of torque and the cost of rebuilds seems to get ridiculous! If you can have an engine that doesnt upset the weight dist, gives loads more torque from low down, returns a better MPG and ultimately more reliable, then whats to hate?
In my opinion its got to be the best car to engine combination ever!
Well actually I believe a powerful turbocharged 4 cyl like the 4G63 is the best motor for power/weight/balance swap for the FD3S. Thats what I did. I also believe a nice powerful aluminum V6 ( VQ35/37) is 2nd, and an aluminum V8 (LS) is 3rd. But I will never hate on anyone that swaps in ANY piston engine other than that POS rotary!!!
Much better package than the rotary. Think of the cost to build a rotary to the same hp/torque level of the LS series. And then you have to worry about it everytime you go WOT.
how is it a "sucky ass car"? not pick-up truck shaped enough for ya?? honestly you americans and your friggin v8 engines... turned a perfectly balanced leightweight track machine into an overweight, lazy, low revving, only useful if going in a straight line yank tank. rotary sounds better too.
Umm, the LS& only outweighs a 13B turbo by 50 lbs. The rotoray shounds like shit, and it has a pathetic horsepower and torque curve, and probably uses more fuel than the big ol V8.
actually the ls7 doesnt weigh much more than the rotary so it probably still handles just as good but with more horsepower and torque aka a shit load faster....and not sound like a weedeater like a rotary.
Thats excellent how the majority of it sits behind the strut towers, just like the original motor. Is it true that the LS7 only weighs 30lb more than the 13B?
yes... ur correct. (although its closer to 40lbs) Rotaries are heavy for thier compact size. The ls motor makes more hp and torque at a lower rpm while producing better MPG as well.
All I meant was that LS7 motors usually store the oil in a seperate container and do not use oil fill caps on the engines themselves. Don't get so worked up about, dude.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Really? that sucks for him. I also knew someone that owned a vette, he didnt blow an engine, but he managed to blow his whole car up.....ok I was just making that up, but wouldn't that be awesome???
yeah the sad part is that he doesnt really ever race it, i used to try an get em to race me, and he wouldnt, lol, lol that would suck though to blow up a vette lol
n ur a jack ass...jus because he is doin something different and really making his car his own ur calling him a hack? why? dude sick car..dont let ppl hate on u n hold u back keep, doin what u love n mod the shit out of that 3rd gen
Name me one modern day motor car engine that doesnt use motor oil! Just because it has a dry sump does not mean it does not use oil. Think about it if it didn't need oil why would it be called a dry sump "oiling" system. Every engine uses motor oil. why screw up a nice LS motor by puting it in a Japanese import? Oh wait, where was that LS built anyways...
