This takes me back to the climate in Chicago when this came out. Mr. Cooked being a Native Chicagoan and my family as well...it was just a cool time. He was our Hometown Hero who made it good. Mr. Cooke's brother LC used to date my sister's friend who lived next door, we were busy jumping 'double dutch' , our friends were cool and our parents enjoying life too. I still miss this man and those beautiful times. .
when i was a kid our music was recorded on 45 rpm vinyl. my record collection consisted of a lot of these records. for the love of me i couldn't find this song. my cousin who lived in ottawa ontario heard about my plight and found it and sent it to me. cost me 99 cents. how times have changed.
im only 9 and i love this sonngso much it helps me when i strugge in school i think of this and remember education isnt everything.thank you sam cooke and thank you whoever posted this.
This is the music of my childhood.... and I'm only 17. I was blessed to be surrounded by people with great taste in music :) lol. This really brings back some memories. *sigh*
@kaity6494 glad you can appreciate that...I did the same for my daughter, now 25 and she has thanked me many times for it. She actually bought an old school record player and some vinyl records...Sam Cooke being one. Makes me feel good to pass on good art and know that it's appreciated and treasured as it should be. Pass it On;-)
@BrandonRangel oh dear christ this is a rare opportunity to show that modern rap listeners aren't retards like most insecure people make them out to be, why the fuck would you make this comment
It is incredible that such a great song made it only to #12 on the chart, but it proves how much there was great music in those days. This song is a classic nonetheless.
this is a good song it reminds me of summer last year me and my friend matt where crusin in his 72 cutlass and it only has a am rasio so he only gets old old rock stations and any way this song came on so now when i here it it reminds me of summer. aaaahhhhhh good times man
we lost sam much to early. good to know his music atill lives on after all these years ,before all the crap called music now. now country is the last bastion of decent music. thanks for posting this.
There is still good music out there...of the small, small, amount you as one person could have even heard, i'm sure there are some besides country that are good.
@aquabatschea There is, it all depends on your outlook on music. For me, I think The Fray and Coldplay make really good music, the can get their points across, with out all the "negative" (from what a lot of people consider it). Music isn't bad, it isn't good either, it's someones opinion on something, and we as the world decide if it "good" or not. :)
This is when music was nothing more than an uplifting experience, back before all the anger and negativity in todays music. This song came out before I was born, but, my father used to play these songs for me and my brother when we were kids and I just love them.
@mikerules666 there's always been anger in music, even back then. don't believe me? look up "Fire" by Crazy World of Arthur Brown(1968), "American Woman" by the Guess Who(1970), and also keep in mind it's not a compliment to say most music back then had the same feel. "angry" music has evolved like the rest of it. if music didn't evolve, 60s music would have nvr come into existence. It would still be blowing through a dead bull's horn. and banging on drums made of animal skin...
