its a shame that a song as good as this one is hidden within a horrible album. just totally the wrong style for a band as great as Lifehouse. great song, regardless of all that.
@haileynleslie yea the live version is legit. saw them in clemson, still so good live. it's a shame what they've become. "No Name Face" and "Smoke and Mirrors" are back-to-back on my iPod (the entire albums). If you listen to them through, it sounds like a totally different band from "No Name Face" to "Smoke and Mirrors."
I've been humming this song for the last couple of days. I know I liked this song very much but it just doesn't feel like listening to a Lifehouse material. And honestly, I think the song would've been alot better without those back singing or whatever it's called!
I don't think that enough people REALLY do realize what a musical genius that Jason Wade is. The music, the lyrics, the vocals, the overlays and underlays of instruments and backing harmonies, etc., etc.,etc.
@StrangeKindOfNormal: HA! I like the way you reason! I've kind of been thinking that myself. Even if it isn't true, it makes me feel better about this album.
Lifehouse is a huge influence on my music but this song, i don't know, sounds closer to a Backstreet Boys song. I guess they were slowly making a move into this commerical sound already but long live Stanley Climbfall era lifehouse!
@matchbox202006: I kind of figured that this new CD was going to be a little more mainstream and it does have a HINT (very minimal though!) of a Backstreet Boy thing, but it's still lovely. It still maintains that Lifehouse-feel to it that their past songs have had. I loved it the first time I heard it (but long live Stanley Climbfall!)
I'm just gonna call it them trying to get more fans...and those fans will listen to their old stuff and then those people will know what real music is!!!! It's a brilliant plan really...I am just gonna stick with that, it helps me sleep at night :)
@StrangeKindOfNormal -YES! that's absolutely what happened! i saw them w/ daughtry and immediately fell in love, went home and bought the 5 albums of theirs! i mean, yes, i knew all of the radio hits, but little did i know that every song by them is genius!
@StrangeKindOfNormal -yes, that's exactly what happened! i saw them in concert w/ daughtry and immediately came home and bought their 5 albums! i mean, i knew all of their radio hits but little did i know that all of their songs are genius!
@matchbox202006 the album version does kind of sound backstreet boy-ish, but the live version is absolutely beautiful and touching! i just saw them earlier this week performing with daughtry and thought this song was the sentimental highlights of their performance.
Does anyone notice that the line shortcut home is in both The Joke and this song. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this song because I can relate to it, but...there is that similarity there.
being a line from the same writer I wouldn't really count it as a bad thing...I think its very interesting and actually something original...never heard a writer return to a specific lyric that he used in a previous song.
Lifehouse is still amazing, this CD is a good. Even this song, I hate the pop sound, but they still found a way to make it into a great song. My only problem is they don't have stand out songs on this album like they did on all their other albums. There are no songs on this one that will never get old, like Hanging by a Moment, You & Me, Everything, Broken, Breathing, Storm and so on. This CD isn't going to hang around like their others have, and will. Just my opinion.
their songs on this album are good... but that's it. i wish they could get back to their original phenomenal sound. like in their first album 'no name face'. now that's the lifehouse i remember and love.
I don't know why everyone loves this song, it's my least favorite...But I guess people who love pop will like it. I suppose I would like it if it was guitar, bass and drums...I'm not a big fan of synthesizers
i cant say this is my favorite album but its not my least favorite either... lifehouse needs to find there place back to what they were cuz this is not it.. there songs are amazinggg.. and no he does not sound like daughtry.. they both have different styles and its really not that hard to tell
I love Lifehouse so much, but I have to admit that I miss the highlights.. This is the only song I like in this album. I love songs like hanging by a moment, you and I, blind, storm and good enough. They are all amazing.
While once again, miss the old lifehouse, and originally this song was just "Pretty Catchy", I have found this song is infectious and I literally cannot get the words or tune out of my head no matter how many other songs I play!
-sigh- The lyrics are good, but I just don't understand the poppiness of it. I think they had gold with NNF. Stanley Cimbfall was good too, maybe a bit darker with the style, but still great. Their self titled was slow, but it still had some great songs on it. Who We Are was slightly disappointing, but this's just....ugh. :|
I mean it's new music, but I'm still disappointed. /:
@Dort926: I think they're tired of being known as "that band" who does "Hanging by a Moment". They really aren't as popular as us fans might think. I think you're right about wanting to reach a different crowd.
Not my favorite, but I'm more of a rock girl than a pop girl. I mean its not bad but I don't find myself listening to this or Falling In more than a few times...just to analyze it. lyrically is good, but the pop sound doesn't do it for me. Jason needs to a) rock out or b) complete love soaked ballad.
Jason Wade, can in my mind, do nothing wrong. He is a lyrical genious and everything he touches turns to gold. I would fly to the moon and back for this band!
According to Jason, this song isn't a break-up song or a love song. He said it's about a relationship just taking it's natural course. An "exhale" as said.
I kind of agree with the boy band comments. This song does not come close to First Time. Although lyrically it is still good because it is written by Jason Wade. I am guessing this one was recorded to be a radio hit maybe?
