  • Dear Lapostrophx: I'm sorry but I must respectfully disagree with you. This music does not belong with Stanley Kubrick's motion picture. Admittedly, art is perceived differently by different people but this bombastic flatulent and grandiose music does real violence to 2001 Space Odyssey.

  • OMG a grand movie fucked up with a cheap orchestral soundtrack

  • Who is the jackass who made this video!!! YOU SUCK AND I HATE YOU. Why would you defile such a great piece of art?!

  • Reminds me of the Monty Python line about "What about a kiss? No need to go stampeding on the clitoris!"

  • No good ! Sacrilège. Super Market Music on Stanley Kubrick big movie ! I only hope God will forgive you.

  • @Bibu231060 I agree with the fact that this music doesn't match Kubrick's movie... but i don't think it's super market music. It's awesome!!! So powerful... reminds me of Carmina Burana!!

  • thanks for sharing¡¡

  • shit. respect kubrick, man. whoever do this doesn't understand no-chemical love of kubrick for universe. sorry for my english.

  • this is fucking requiem for a dream, the most fucking over-used piece of shit song from the 2001 movie by the same name out there! Why don't you put some Linkin Park in there while you're at it. Either "In The End" or "Crawling" those are the only two songs they made. Put some scenes from Naruto and write AMV in the title as-well.

  • that is sooo bad. dont do it again.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

  • @Nyquistic

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

  • Wrong music, dumbass.

    God damn it

  • seriously fuck this music i hate it so much please stop playing over youtube videos it does not work, if you actually think this works then your a fucking idiot

  • Comment removed

  • Lmao

  • Oh, don't get your panties in a wad, people. It's not the same Lux Aeterna from the movie (that one's done by György Ligeti) but it is a good song. It's so grand.

  • This is actually really good. I've never seen the movie, nor had I heard the song. It fit fine to me. So... I don't know what everyone is yelling about. Perhaps it was a different overall mood, but Requiem for a Dream is in general, an epic song. It fits epicness, and space is epic so I see no reason to complain. And yes, I know I need to see the movie. Didn't ruin it for me though.

  • This ruins the movie

  • @Vesters1 yes it does...sounds more suited to something like the 300 or something

  • I hate kitsch like this wrong score under it.

  • banal

  • This is what would pass for classical music of the axis powers had won WWII.

  • I hate this song so bad, where is the true Lux Aeterna actually used in the film ???

  • Why does the requiem for a dream theme all of a sudden convey every human emotion and appear in every youtube video regardless of its content? Ligeti's Lux Aeterna is the only Lux Aeterna that need be associated with 2001. End of story.

  • The music doesnt doesnt fit as it suggests the whole mission (In 2001) failed, which, it didnt as Bowman flew into the Monolith and became reborn

    Wrong

  • WTF!!!

    ¿

porq sacas la musica de ligeti para poner eso??¿¿

  • q paila

  • OMFG wrong lux aeterna....EPIX FAIL !!!!!

this is just astronomical fail rly...I know that its your first vid but its not that it doesnt fit...it fits if ur a holywood dumb ass but this is a Stanley Kubrick movie and it needs Ligeti music not stupid clint mansell or whats his name...e

  • Sooo which version of the song did you use?Ive been tryin to figure it out.

  • I feel that this is well used, and makes it feel like a testament to man.

  • haha, wrong lux aeterna

  • yes, it's quite a pity...

  • This doesn't work. 2001 is not about an intergalactic war, as the music suggests.

  • Read the books (all of them up to 3001: The final Odyssey) and then get back to me and tell me if this isn't the start of something that this music doesn't fit to.

(a little side note R.I.P. - A. C. Clarke nothing quite like his books will be writen for a while now I feel so savour the greatness)

  • this sucks big time

  • very over rated piece of musical composition, is has a quality but hardly profound in the tradition of minimalistic tone, ligeti forever.

  • From Wikipedia...check it out for ur selves i had to crop it a bit...im bout to chop n screw dis shit

A version of the track was re-orchestrated with a choir and full orchestra for The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers trailer.[1] The piece, named "Requiem for a Tower", was made exclusively for the trailer and was not featured in either Requiem for a Dream or the The Lord of the Rings film trilogy

  • No but it is used as the main theme for "Requiem for a Dream". it matched the atmosphere of that film!

  • absolutely and completely wrong. totally against kubrick's aesthetic statement.

and a cheeseball orchestration of what was actually a pretty good soundtrack (to a COMPLETELY different movie).

    ouch.

  • in deed

  • @minirausch U aint flexible anough

  • This is 2001? wow. I guess I wasn't living in the right spot

  • What the fuck is this? Lux Aeterna is a primarily choral piece written in 1966.

This is clearly not that. You lie!

  • This is a wholly different Lux Aeterna (Literally and in English: Eternal Light) by another composer, only the name is the same. Confusingly, the original Lux Aeterna by Ligeti was used to great artistic efect in 2001: A Space Oddysey as were Ligeti's Atmospheres and Requiem. A lot of people forget that in this world a title is not exclusive, several entirely different pieces of music can have the same title, just like people can have identical names.

  • Yeah, it's like saying: LOL Beethoven copied his Allegro molto from Mozart HURR DURR

  • The subtleties of the original Kubrick soundtrack and Ligeti score and this kind of Hollywood drivel are compared here ... using fish.

    watch?v=IhJQp-q1Y1s

  • i feel that the exchange you refer to is more worthwhile than any of the discussion going on here. not to mention infinitely more intellectual

  • Come ooon! this is so Hollywood! It's nothing compared to Ligeti's Lux Aeterna which is used by Kubrick!!

Be more critic when it's about aesthetics in arts.

  • While watching this I thought that this song would fit to Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith ;)

  • adoro Lux Aeterna!!!

  • Great combo, the vision of 2001 and the drama. It's like playing Hotel California when you enter hell. Perfect match.

  • Mansell created his version of lux aeterna in requiem for a dream.

The version here is also lux aeterna from mansell, but it was created for lotr and choir and orchestra is added ... thats why ppl likes it more...

  • I know that this song is called "Lux Aeterna" but i can't find THIS version anywhere. I have the one from the Requiem for a a Dream version.. which is slower, and does not have as much.. uhh .. punch to it. does anyone know where i can find THIS version featured on this video?

  • Requiem for a tower. Lotr "remixed" version.

I can see how this music would've fit excellently with different cuts from the movie.

  • I think it's very good editing, but some of the constructive criticizm written here is right. The action doesn't match the intensity of the music, so the feeling is kind of lost.

    .

Also, there is a piece called "Lux Aeterna" in the original 2001 soundtrack, but it is a different piece of music.

  • I love that Lapostrophx has done this while apparently completely unaware that a significant piece of the original 2001 music was also called Lux Aeterna. It would have been a really smart bit of musical tongue-in-cheek, but it's actually just dumb luck.

  • Yeah, I was about to say this. lol!

  • nice

  • This video needs a lot of help. Watch the trailer for the movie Sunshine then remake this with more footage of Dave trying to shut down HAL and his evolution journey.

  • I think this song is too dynamic for that kind of video. But the introduction of the shuttle ( around 1.36) is pefectly timed with the song and the whole impression is just MONUMENTAL!!!

  • Lux Aeterna is in fact part of the 2001 soundtrack. Although only a small portion which was used, and I think it was always associated with the monolith

  • I watched the movie once recently and I could swear I haven't heard this song in any part of the film. Maybe it was in 2010?

  • I had been confused. Ligeti's music was indeed associated with the monolith, but what Kubrick used was one of the dissonant massed-vocal sections of Requiem.

I'm fairly certain Lux Aeterna was also in the film (it was on the music soundtrack LP), but at what point in the film I don't know. The beginning of the "stargate" sequence, perhaps?

  • There is also a piece called "Lux Aeterna" by Ligeti (which is different than this one). It is used in the moonbus sequence (when the astronauts fly to the monolith site on the moon). It is also on youtube - look for "Lux Aeterna" + "Ligeti".

  • Had that idiot not stopped the Apollo Program back in 1970, maybe maybe we would have had Ships like that today :(

    Damn Communists in Vietnam !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • NOT SO GOOD?! I can't believe my eyes! Are you joking?

This is one of the best videos I've ever seen!

The scenes are matching very well with the music and sound and pictures have a good quality.

You're much more talented than many other Youtube users. I hope that you'll continue creating video. :D

    Greatings,

    yours Nordra

  • Das Soundtrack hört sich einfach nur genial an!

(Läuft deshalb auch dauernd im Hintergrund *g*)

  • Really nice.
