Dear Lapostrophx: I'm sorry but I must respectfully disagree with you. This music does not belong with Stanley Kubrick's motion picture. Admittedly, art is perceived differently by different people but this bombastic flatulent and grandiose music does real violence to 2001 Space Odyssey.
@Bibu231060 I agree with the fact that this music doesn't match Kubrick's movie... but i don't think it's super market music. It's awesome!!! So powerful... reminds me of Carmina Burana!!
this is fucking requiem for a dream, the most fucking over-used piece of shit song from the 2001 movie by the same name out there! Why don't you put some Linkin Park in there while you're at it. Either "In The End" or "Crawling" those are the only two songs they made. Put some scenes from Naruto and write AMV in the title as-well.
seriously fuck this music i hate it so much please stop playing over youtube videos it does not work, if you actually think this works then your a fucking idiot
Oh, don't get your panties in a wad, people. It's not the same Lux Aeterna from the movie (that one's done by György Ligeti) but it is a good song. It's so grand.
This is actually really good. I've never seen the movie, nor had I heard the song. It fit fine to me. So... I don't know what everyone is yelling about. Perhaps it was a different overall mood, but Requiem for a Dream is in general, an epic song. It fits epicness, and space is epic so I see no reason to complain. And yes, I know I need to see the movie. Didn't ruin it for me though.
Why does the requiem for a dream theme all of a sudden convey every human emotion and appear in every youtube video regardless of its content? Ligeti's Lux Aeterna is the only Lux Aeterna that need be associated with 2001. End of story.
this is just astronomical fail rly...I know that its your first vid but its not that it doesnt fit...it fits if ur a holywood dumb ass but this is a Stanley Kubrick movie and it needs Ligeti music not stupid clint mansell or whats his name...e
Read the books (all of them up to 3001: The final Odyssey) and then get back to me and tell me if this isn't the start of something that this music doesn't fit to.
(a little side note R.I.P. - A. C. Clarke nothing quite like his books will be writen for a while now I feel so savour the greatness)
Esperaba oir "luz eterna" de G. Ligeti (la original e inquietante música de la película de kubric)y no de Clint Mansell. sobre todo porque ésta última se usa por activa y por pasiva. Lo mejor son las impresionantes imágenes.
From Wikipedia...check it out for ur selves i had to crop it a bit...im bout to chop n screw dis shit
A version of the track was re-orchestrated with a choir and full orchestra for The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers trailer.[1] The piece, named "Requiem for a Tower", was made exclusively for the trailer and was not featured in either Requiem for a Dream or the The Lord of the Rings film trilogy
This is a wholly different Lux Aeterna (Literally and in English: Eternal Light) by another composer, only the name is the same. Confusingly, the original Lux Aeterna by Ligeti was used to great artistic efect in 2001: A Space Oddysey as were Ligeti's Atmospheres and Requiem. A lot of people forget that in this world a title is not exclusive, several entirely different pieces of music can have the same title, just like people can have identical names.
I know that this song is called "Lux Aeterna" but i can't find THIS version anywhere. I have the one from the Requiem for a a Dream version.. which is slower, and does not have as much.. uhh .. punch to it. does anyone know where i can find THIS version featured on this video?
I think it's very good editing, but some of the constructive criticizm written here is right. The action doesn't match the intensity of the music, so the feeling is kind of lost.
.
Also, there is a piece called "Lux Aeterna" in the original 2001 soundtrack, but it is a different piece of music.
I love that Lapostrophx has done this while apparently completely unaware that a significant piece of the original 2001 music was also called Lux Aeterna. It would have been a really smart bit of musical tongue-in-cheek, but it's actually just dumb luck.
This video needs a lot of help. Watch the trailer for the movie Sunshine then remake this with more footage of Dave trying to shut down HAL and his evolution journey.
I think this song is too dynamic for that kind of video. But the introduction of the shuttle ( around 1.36) is pefectly timed with the song and the whole impression is just MONUMENTAL!!!
Lux Aeterna is in fact part of the 2001 soundtrack. Although only a small portion which was used, and I think it was always associated with the monolith
I had been confused. Ligeti's music was indeed associated with the monolith, but what Kubrick used was one of the dissonant massed-vocal sections of Requiem.
I'm fairly certain Lux Aeterna was also in the film (it was on the music soundtrack LP), but at what point in the film I don't know. The beginning of the "stargate" sequence, perhaps?
There is also a piece called "Lux Aeterna" by Ligeti (which is different than this one). It is used in the moonbus sequence (when the astronauts fly to the monolith site on the moon). It is also on youtube - look for "Lux Aeterna" + "Ligeti".

No but it is used as the main theme for "Requiem for a Dream". it matched the atmosphere of that film!

absolutely and completely wrong. totally against kubrick's aesthetic statement.
and a cheeseball orchestration of what was actually a pretty good soundtrack (to a COMPLETELY different movie).

What the fuck is this? Lux Aeterna is a primarily choral piece written in 1966.
This is clearly not that. You lie!

The version here is also lux aeterna from mansell, but it was created for lotr and choir and orchestra is added ... thats why ppl likes it more...

Requiem for a tower. Lotr "remixed" version.
I can see how this music would've fit excellently with different cuts from the movie.
