Johnnie Vinson and Auburn really suck, and you can ask any of them who has the better music program... your opinion of Auburn being better than Alabama will be in the VAST minority, even among their students. Anyone who can graduate from that school despite the crap parking situation and snow all the time has my respect, but these guys still suck at trumpet.

Ha, yeah Purdue really does have a shit music program. It's just for idiots that want to play music while crowds slowly file out of your games for 3 hours... glad you didn't claim that Purdue's band was any good. It'd just make me SO sad to be a part of a band where the world's largest (and softest) bass drum is more popular than marching, jazz, concert... poor school. Poor trumpets... but there's no hope.
Med school now... one semester in Australia, one semester in France, and principal bass trombonist in Alabama's million dollar band, turned down a full ride to FSU on music scholarship, played for Auburn Knights jazz orchestra, and I still play bass bone... but it still pains me to hear a bunch of college kids CACKING notes that I could play on trumpet.

As for me, I'm an assistant professor in CE at Vanderbilt at the age of 26, and Blair is much better for undergrads than UA (except for the crap marching band).
Typical Bammer, cares only about money. Would never fit in at a top tier university. No curiosity, no real scholarship, no scruples, nothing that impresses me.
Sudler doesn't measure musical quality as much as it does marching technique... still doesn't change the fact that this group of wonderful aspiring engineers-to-be can't hold a tune without it sounding like a boiler train wreck.
