  • why was i born in the 90s instead of 70s or 60s i feel like a disgrace because of my generation im only thirteen and this is what i listen to.

  • headbanging begins at 1:17

  • would be an awesome wedding song!

  • @D3rpIn Boy, You really have a way with words! I bet you get All the Ladies with your smooth talking.

  • the 70's was the best time to be a teen

  • @lordofdeath1088

your not the only one!! :D

  • This takes me right back to my suburban St. Louis cul de sac. My parents would always socialize with our neighbors down the street on Saturday and we would make popcorn (on the stove), grab a couple cold bottles of pepsi, and listen to albums and ALL afternoon and then watch Love Boat and Fantasy Island at night. Sound corny but it was so fun.

  • @soakthisup

thank you for bringing back good memories, the songs are awesome, but having you mention love boat and fantasy island is the exactly the same good memories I have with my little sister!

  • herd this on Its always sunny in philadelphia had to play it three times! kick ass music with talent

  • Ah the sweet memories of being young and carefree....

  • Styx is awesome, especially this song and Fooling Yourself!

  • @Weretyu7777 Only if Dennis De Young is Singing It!

  • Saw them in Columbus,Mississippi in summer of 1972 in a small venue [Lowndes County National Guard Armory] Fantastic!

  • PRICELESS

  • I play air finger symbols to this everytimne I hear it- even in my car : )

  • Styx is the river that runs thru Hell

  • @Syzygy60 it was also one of the best bands ever

  • Comment removed

  • This brings back SUCH good memories....... their best song of all, in my opinion.

  • @mrmasterlee1 The roots of Styx can be traced back all the way to Dennis Deyoung and the Panozzo brothers in 1961, Tommy Shaw joined December 1975. Nice try though.

  • I love the original :) I still love styx but not the way they play this song nowadays. They play it WAY to slow and way to heavy (probably bc of tommy) This one is perfect!!!!

  • Thank-You for Sharing/Posting DJ/Joyce <3<3<3 xo

  • This the original power ballad

  • A forever classic

  • ANybody that disses this song obviously has a few screws loose....Don't give in to the haters and the pukes..

    Styx rocks..

  • Why couldn't this song be longer? :(

  • I like this so much better than the remastered version.

  • MAGNIFICENTLY STUNNING LOVED IT FROM THE DAY IT CAME OUT

  • Dennis did SOMETHING right.......his wife is still together (and beautiful, I might add) and this sond and Babe were for her!

  • One of the most beautiful love songs of all time. In my top 5 of love songs Im glad i finally found the original version. The others suck

  • I heard this song in the Simpsons years ago. I thought this songs name was "Hades" not "Lady."

  • You know that this is the best music because Vevo can't touch it.

  • can't make it loud enough

  • This is my favorite song to sing

  • great album...

  • Still brilliant! By far my favorite Styx song.

  • I just wanted to post something positive about this song so I could get abused. Oh, and I listened to Southern Cross, Country Roads and Cool Change before I watched this youtube. I think I'll head to Open Arms next.

  • Actually guys..Tommy Shaw didn't join STYX until late '75 after John Curelewsky left the band following the recording of the Equinox album.

  • @Vatch1966 who cares? I just like the song, Im not gonna hang with the guys

  • I'm going to cover this, vocally. I love singing this song, it's just like broadway.

  • This is to all videogame players :

Play this song and play LIMBO at the same time, that is, if you dont mind skipping the silence in the game

  • I'm going home! Which way to Ithaca?

Its notso easy.. you must go thru Hades, crossing the river styx..

  • Discus stu has Ouzo for twozo..

  • "OH THIS TRUELLY IS HELL!"

  • @ReverendDiabetes I guess youve never been in love?

  • What made their music so great was Tommy Shaw, who is an elf.

  • @alindallas Most people will think u r joking. Thats ok, we know better

  • @ STYX fan93, what planet do you live on? The classic rock band STYX who made it big in the 70's also had a Bad Ass singer / Guitarist from Texas named Tommy Shaw. he's been there from day 1. If you dont know that you should change your name, because ALL true STYX fans know those basic facts. I'm just sayin, get your facts strait or be Quiet! so as not to make a Fool out of yourself! :)

  • @mrmasterlee1

From Texas? I beg to differ... Tommy Shaw is from my hometown of Montgomery, Alabama.

  • @ShadowsGathered Your right, I stand corrected. Thank You

  • @mrmasterlee1 Tommy Shaw is from Montgomery, Alabama, and he was not with Styx from day 1, he didn't join Styx until their 5th album, Crystal Ball, in 1976.

  • @disciple012 I stand corrected, My appologies.

  • @ Eric31411, I'm sorry but I'm not going to allow you to give STYX a Black eye. Ive seen STYX many times old & New. They ROCK, ALL the original band members are still there. Your NUTS, By the way who the Hell do you think you are ? Everyones heard of STYX, Has anyone ever heard of Eric31411? I havent ! Just another Big Mouth PUNK seeking attention. :(

  • @mrmasterlee1 All the original members are not still in the band. James Young is the only original member, and Chuck Panozzo on certain occasions. All others are replacements

  • Comment removed

  • @StyxFan93 So ture, so SAD but so true...they still kick ass though live ;)

  • @StyxFan93 Tommy Shaw is still preforming in Styx concerts

  • @allykat4632 Awesome, but not an original member.

  • @allykat4632 And still rocking. Saw them this past summer and they sounded good as ever.

  • @balzysalzy Awesome, looking forward to it! :)

  • @StyxFan93 As long as Tommy and JY are there who gives a f@#k! All the spirit of their songs will be there!

  • @mrmasterlee1 Exactly.. What StyxFan93 said, theres only one left.. Even Dennis Deyoung left>.> not saying that i dont like them, because i do. b

ut don't hurt the little child by yelling at them..

  • @mrmasterlee1 Amen

  • @mrmasterlee1 Hey dont lose your air supply over something like that!

  • @mrmasterlee1 Amen dude (or dude-ette)!!!!

  • @2haveFREEDOMpriceles Glad you agree dude or dudette.

  • @mrmasterlee1 Styx is one of my favourite heavy rock bands, but admittedly, they weren't a very well known band

  • I saw Styx perform in Albany in 2003, and they were awful!! with only one or two original members, I don't think they should be able to call themselves Styx, without Dennis Deyoung who really carried the band..their old music, however, like this tune, is great!

  • Finally, I found the original studio version that i remeber from my childhood. Remember the saying "dont fix what aint broke" ? Its perfect.

  • Anyone catch this on a Simpsons episode?

  • It's really a strong song.

  • When I was growing up as a kid I thought the song was talk about the dog Lady from the cartoon Lady and the Tramp. :)

  • When I think of "Lady"; I think of THIS SONG. Not Lady Gaga. (or Antebellum)

  • @redracer1985 Lady gaga is a dude....

  • great guitar riff by JY

  • @corelliantrader007 thanks! Me too..and for you a woman if you don't have one already...

  • doper music.. heh so i guess the moment i started doing w.e half the worlds population just became my enemy.. so many think because you like getting high you must mug old ladies and kick children when you walk past.. id much rather feel rough then go to the lengths of robbing old ladies. holy fuck, what and who am i talking to, *leaves room*

  • Always great band...

  • reminds me a little the voice of air supply...

  • if a man sang this to me I'd have to cry first, kiss him second and then melt.

  • Classic good old ROCK music. But the weed made better to listen to!! The good old days.

  • What a GREAT song. One of my all time favorites. One word of warning--if you buy their Greatest Hits album it contains an abomination called "Lady 1995"----It is like having Pee Wee Herman record your favorite song. I don't know what they were thinking.

Thank You for putting this original version up for all of us to enjoy again.

  • bery bery bery

  • Tema clásico de 1973

  • Thank you 50,000 watt blowtorch WLS The Big 89 AM radio station in Chicago for being one of the first big AM stations to play this. Back when AM radio was cool.

  • This entire song is what played when I climbed myself into the underworld to save my wife. She's doing well.

  • @Eldytho LOLOLOL!! Glad to hear she's well!!!

  • I'm here from Old School

  • Homer brought me here!

  • I <3 this song!!!!!! i have been a styx fan since i was two!!!!

  • nick from freaks and geeks.

  • 4 people listen to the new gay hip-hop bullshit.

  • I wasn't gonna kill ya, but I will now.

  • he wrote this too his wife.

  • One of my many favorite Styx hits. One of the bands that ruled the 70's and 80's

  • Wow this was such a fantastic era for music!! This is when people really knew what love was and just how to express it in song!!

  • So easy to call the people that call this a "doper" song - a bunch of idiots. This is not a "drug" song. This is a love song, not something about drugs...and to be honest, if someone can call this a song about drugs, et cetera, how do they come up with that exactly?

  • ..... I like this song and I don't even drink, let alone do pot or any other drugs THIS IS A LOVE SONG

  • i don't know why, but i have always thought the first 4 styxs albums were the best! don't get me wrong i liked the others, like the grand illusion, the grand ball etc.etcc. but my favorites have always been the first 4 albums

  • it may not be about weed, but i pretty sure everyone that listens to this song is smoking.

  • this is a song that Dennis DeYoung wrote for his wife Suzanne....

  • so dang cool missing all THAT

  • im so used to lady '95 off the greatest hits album but i love this version also

  • Wow, the song is for Dennis De'Young's wife. It is on fucking wikipedia, I mean we all love weed, but sorry, this song isn't about drugs.

  • I think this was their very first hit (no pun intendeeeeeeehed)--I love this!:)

  • A great fave of mine.....

  • I'm still trying to figure out how an idiot thinks this is doper music. There are some real whack jobs out there for sure.

  • @80sMetallion i think they think lady means pot for some reason.

  • @80sMetallion my father is stuck in the "1950's vision of America" mentality.

  • @80sMetallion he said his dad would call it doper music, his dad is wrong on all accounts. :)

  • @80sMetallion Pot creates potheads. It shouldn't be that surprising.

  • @80sMetallion AMEN!

  • just to say this is a "met" for pot...you have to smokin' alot of it to get that type of stretch...

  • StyxFan93, i think you are probably smoking a little to much pot...

  • @tattoojack0117 Haha, what makes you say that?

  • @StyxFan93 or smoking too much pole :-)

  • @StyxFan93 because hes ignorant! you know how much weed styx smoked and they still do so tattojackass up there can take his uneducated remarks and go wait in the car!!!!

  • @StyxFan93 haha i guess there's a problem with smoking too much pot.. haha. there's never too much pot. it's more like there's never enough pot...

  • @tattoojack0117 Did you take D.A.R.E classes in school by chance?

  • @tattoojack0117 or smoking too much pole

  • @tattoojack0117 stfu and have another beer ya sheep! this country was built on cannabis... LITERALLY! without it we wouldnt be here! and how many people has weed killed...0 in millions of years!! take your head out of your ass and stop letting this system think for you!! educate medicate spread the seed and free the weed! got a problem with freedom of choice terrorist?

  • @tattoojack0117 you can never smoke enough pot ......

  • @tattoojack0117 No such thing as too much pot, dude...

  • This is A Perfect Song, Of A Perfect Band, in a Perfect Era, True Rock...

  • You're My Lady....Karen!

  • CLASSIC

  • A favorite of mine forever. Smile babe. xxx

  • nice

  • STYX II---"LADY"

  • This Music is better than the (C)RAP they have today

  • @cyceaux

    Retards

    Attempting

    Poetry

  • Too fab! Love this. Euphoric Rock On! in my head with eyes closed

  • better than the lady 95 version!

  • @chubsoda Foghat wasn't exactly "doper" music, just feel-good boogie-rock. None of their songs really referenced drugs and I'm pretty sure that none of Foghat's members used them. Zeppelin is arguable. Aerosmith, especially on their fifth album (about 1978), is the "dopiest" of the three. The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Whatever-Aeronautical-Device-They-Were were dope bands

  • I like this version. Thanks for sharing.

  • what a song

  • This was recorded in 1972,but it didn't chart until 1974.Why is this, just curious.

  • @bigdaddy45able The reason is because when this album was released, Styx was still represented by Wooden Nickel Records. That company did not do a good job of promoting Styx, so after their 4th album, the band switched over to A&M Records, and that company did a much better job getting their name out, and as a result they had their first big hit, Lady.

  • @StyxFan93 Thank you,we have to keep each informed musically ya know.

  • @bigdaddy45able Any time, friend :)

  • @StyxFan93 Thanks for the kind words,if you have any questions about classic rock or classic r&b feel free to ask.I'll answer them as best as possible.

  • i'm pretty sure my dad would call this "doper music" hahahahahaha. he realy does not aprove of "doper music".

  • @MrBubonicChronic Has he heard the Styx song "Light Up"? If he calls this a Doper song, I wonder what he would call Light Up. :)

  • @StyxFan93 hahaha

  • @StyxFan93 What, "lady" is a metaphor for pot? Perhaps, but that's a bit of a stretch . . .

  • @CheshireCatFun Actually Dennis wrote this song for his wife, Suzanne. He never even planned on having this be a hit either, it was just meant to be a nice gesture for his wife.

  • @StyxFan93 I'm so glad this wasn't just a private song because this is a great one to play to someone special.

  • @StyxFan93 All these fool's retoric.....thumbs up to great songs and nice gestures to our wives!

  • @CheshireCatFun Lady can refer to several different types of drugs; Though i personally don't see pot as a drug. When i think drugs i think hard processed junk like cocaine, herion. I wish people would stop making such a big deal about pot; Not you, just people who keep bitching about it.

  • @StyxFan93 a lot worse in the world than weed .. some people could use a little, so uptight

  • @MrBubonicChronic thats funny because styx is one of my dads favorite bands and so is mine

along with boston journey foreigner REO etc....

im 15 and i dont listen to rap and country shit

classic rock is where its at.

  • @mitch13815 my dad is Mr. straight-laced-1950's-vision-of-america. he had a pretty fucked up childhood so i try not to clash with him. i do what i do and he does what he do.

  • @MrBubonicChronic wow that must suck

when im listening to classic rock turned up in my room he doesnt come in and say TURN THAT SHIT DOWN

he'll actually come in and start listening to it with me LOL!!

  • @MrBubonicChronic well Mrbubonicchronic, your dad is an idiot and he has no sense of music.

  • @fraroc i am well aware of that fact

  • @MrBubonicChronic your dad needs some doper then

  • @MrBubonicChronic your dad is a brainless cog in a system of corruption hatred and greed!! i think ide rather be a doper lol wtf does that mean anyway doper!? only a dope would say shit so stupid!

  • @MrBubonicChronic Why ? The song has absolutely nothing to do with dope, and was an awesome song then, & still is 30+ years later :)

  • Styx=Awesomeness!

  • Thank you for posting this song. When I was a teen, it seemed like every time I heard this song on the radio I was lonely and it was cold outside. I love this song.

  • i just got done playing the duet part in my marching band haha.
