I think it has something to do with the members of the band being Christians and the apparent Christian phraseology in the song (walk on water, you said you wouldn't bring me out here to drown, seeing you causing the darkness to turn to light). It's not a "Christian song" per say, what does that mean? Aren't all works of art expressions of love towards a particular person or thing? So, this is a love song, and the Christian listener sees it as an expression of trust in God.
