What the heck are you talking about "awful song?" Is that why so many recorded Mr. Bacharach's song, including the Tangeers, Ian and The Zodiacs, Stephanie Mills, Dionne Warwick and The Searchers in the U.K.? Its also a highly collectible sound on the Northern Soul circuit by Janie Marden on Reprise too. The general public are NOT always right, just look at some of the people they elect to office and the music they turn their back on! Nana did this great version justice in French.

What an awful song. Not even Nana can save it. The fact that it was only a 'small" hit for Warwick, who had one BIG hit after another in the 60's, shows that even the general public recognized a poor song when they heard it.

Thanks for the details, XanaduCGN. I had never heard this song, prior to Nana's interpretation, and even that happened in 1968. I still remember the radio station. It was Radio Monte Carlo - and I live in Northern Greece!
