  • this is very bad. its not artsy or good because you suck at playing your respective instruments. does the kinks shame

  • @willmann441 Rock n Roll is all about minimalism, no?

  • @JZWIlson1 try warpaint, the vivian girls and lichenstein

  • Kinks all the way.

  • 15 people are drenched.

  • Your version is better than the original! LOVED it & shared your links out, please don't ever stop doing all you do. :-D

  • Muito bom!

  • <333

  • Even more morbid sung by girls..... best Lola cover, ever

  • Great version from a classic album. Love the raincoats, the slits, x-ray spex, essential logic, kleenex, gaob, delta 5, girl's having fun and producing classic music!!!!!!

  • I like this better than the original - and I love the Kinks.

  • i love this song..

  • 13 persons prefer this with Coca-cola.

  • I think it's better than the Kinks' version !

  • @paraloidb72 nothing can top the original. But this is a good cover!

  • Love this cover!

  • 12 people are Deaf

  • Awesome cover, sounds really great with a girl singing it.

  • My fav cover of this song :D

  • Blegghh , i dont like this version

  • 2 seconds after I pressed play...fuck this shit.

  • Great. Such a pure sound.

  • such a amazing cover

  • Song about transgender and a girl groups not allowed to sing guy part? Retards.

  • @BlueberryJava - and, of course, persistent rumour holds that Ana, at least, is a queer girl. :)

  • @Timmybear Uh, I'm pretty sure she's never been in the closet :)

  • @NewWaver80014 - True, but I've never read a direct statement. Sometimes it's not necessary. It's like when some gay magazine asked Marc Almond in his heyday to directly state he was gay. Um, who didn't KNOW?

  • @Timmybear True - even if she was more vocal about it, I don't think she'd use the L word to label herself.

  • 10 justin bieber fans missed the like button

  • y'all check out the cover of Anarchy in the UK (sex pistols) by the japanese band Quinka, with a Yawn... u will like it if u like this. its rly good

  • Sorry - Kinks still own this one...

  • well guys their not lesbeins cause the orignal song is about a transvestite called lola (listen to the lyrics carefully and you'll know what I mean)

  • @wowchoc Holy Shit man

    thanks for the info....

  • @fullmetalnaruto92 no probs :)

  • Thanks for uploading

  • This is good but the original is the best by far

  • Ana da Silva is from my island :))))))

Little rock in Atlantic Ocean... Madeira Island.

  • yesyuesyesyesyeyseyyesyeysy7esyesyesyes

  • I don't know if The Raincoats band members are lesbians, but it would really make me happy if it were so. Something just seems beautiful about a bunch of lesbians singing Lola, knowing the songs history.

  • This song was always great fun, I must say, but it's true what another user said: it adds another great pile of gendertastic joy to the song when it's sung by a lassy. - And great music, too, it does the original well.

  • Good cover. I like these chickas.

  • Better than the Kinks version.

  • I LOVE HER VOICE

  • Great song from a fantastic album.

My top three covers of all time are all by females - This, Heard it Through the Grapevine by The Slits and Highway 61 Revisited by PJ Harvey

  • @fizzb100 hah, Slits's Heard it Through the Grapevine is probably my #2 as well! ^5

  • @GuesssMyUserName

Always wondered if Paloma wrote Adventures Close to Home, what with it appearing on Cut and The Raincoats. Any ideas?

  • @fizzb100 - Yes, Paloma wrote Adventures Close To Home.

  • @GuesssMyUserName: Me too! Although I gotta put Sixteen Horsepower's cover of Bad Moon Risin' at #3...

  • Just heard it for the first time and im hooked!

  • @fizzb100 They murdered this song, Slits - Grapevine gotta be the best cover EVER. Strangelers- Walk On By, Satisfaction- Devo, that's my top 3. Thank you.

  • @fizzb100 Love your comment! I am a big girl-band fan.

  • @fizzb100 good choices. "Respect" by Aretha is also a cover.

  • Kinks version is way better but this is a good cover.

  • As to why a female is singing the song - well, it introduces a whole other level of genderfrig to the track. :)

Personally, I think that men in bands should only play tambourine or sing backup, though there might be the occasional freak who can actually strum an acoustic guitar or play some simple piano (strict quota, and preferably mixed way down low); and they should only be cute - one extra ounce of fat or actually dressing for comfort should be grounds for expulsion.

  • I found this video by procrastinating while reading a post about how to procrastinate on the SparkLife section of SparkNotes.

  • love this song by the rain coats

  • This is really good.

  • this song is awesome.yes it was the kinks manager who feel in love with with a ladyboy, thats what this song is based on,and i do hope ur hair grows back u poor fellow.

  • The Kinks do it better.

  • Apples are better than oranges.

  • i think this version is better. like this song

  • "girls will be boys and boys will be girls".

This is so striking and good to me.

  • @jaydock1 could the dresden dolls have been making a reference to this in 'sex changes'?

I doubt it but i never realised up until now

  • interesting version, thanks for sharing :)

  • yooo Tube!

  • Very nice =)

    Greetz from Germany xD

  • I swear somebody wrote this -for me- !

    Amazing =]

  • @xXcharleXx you know it was written for a transvestite, right?

  • @venivertebrae uh.. YES.. :S

  • yer dumb.

  • @GuesssMyUserName

It's because the song is about a young man meeting a transvestite. So it doesn't quite work as it was intended.

    Still, it's a nice version.

  • @krogsdamvej it works from a lesbian's perspective...or rather a someone who is an FTM. i think that's why i love this version so much.

  • @belliot060

Well yes, but it doesn't quite conjure up the images that were intended with Lola. For a start you would have to change the name of one of the central protagonists. The lyrics would also need changing just slightly, too.

  • @krogsdamvej you're definetly right...it's just the first thing that came to mind for me: this boi and tranny. It's not an uncommon for relationships of such to develop. Anyhoo....love the song, couldn't stop listening to it.

  • note to you... yer a cunt. and this cover is great.

  • @GuesssMyUserName

Lol, why is this thumbs downed? You're obviously joking...

I hope. Anyways, loooove this song. Specially by a female, lol. But the Kinks rule.

  • @GuesssMyUserName "Wrong".. Lels

  • @GuesssMyUserName

girls will be boys and boys will be girls

  • @arcataberry Why did Jack White sing Jolene? Because it's an awesome song and if they don't wanna change the lyrics then they don't have to.

  • @arcataberry

girls will be boys and boys will be girls

  • あけおめ。

    思わずチェリーレッドの方たちかと思いました。ごめんなさい。

  • Fantastic, I swoon

  • excellent

  • a classic of pop and is a good version of this classical punk folk

  • Love this version. Heard them do it at TR-3 in Lower East Side about 1979. They kept fucking up & restarting the song. It was real cool.

  • aaaghhloooolllaaaaaaa

    wow

  • Mr. Ray Davies. Thank you for this song. An Old Raincoat won't ever let you down. Luv this version. Luvved since 198????

  • superb, thanks for postig

  • LO - LA

  • And radio is the worse for it. I'd rather hear this than the pitch-corrected clones that get airplay now.

  • you should've said "no disrespect to today"...

  • ..of course that's not disrespecting The Raincoats, if anything it's disrespecting the radio for being worthless, predictable trash. ;)

  • @carlosnIII Of course, but then they probably would've then too because the radio totally sucks and pretty much always has with brief respites once a decade. The sloppiness is part of the art. It took music a little longer than visual arts to realize grit could be an asset, unfortunately, some listeners still haven't figured it out.

  • carlos has a point. Not that the Raincoats suck, but radio stations are run by idiots nowadays.

  • good vibes

  • indeed.

  • fantastic...

  • Ah perfect. takes me back!

  • great cover love the song

  • Comment removed

  • I really like the first part of the song.. very nice indeed

  • I was thinking the exact same thing!

  • i just bought the origanal record off trade me for 29 bucks costs more to buy the cd,

cant wait for it to get here!!!

  • I love the Kinks and I love this version by the raincoates!

  • i agree but you have to admit this version us pretty awesome

  • Pretty good

  • i think this one is better then the kinks :P

  • Yeah, that might because the Raincoats were based in the UK. Oh wait, so were the Kinks. OH NOES.

  • what

  • wow get yr facts 'straight' blasphemers all of you

  • can't find it anywhere

  • It's on Rough Trade's post-punk collection.

  • I beleive Gina Birch was the singer for the raincoats, but kim deals band the Breeders was supposedly influenced by the raincoats....so uhhh........zepplin rules!

  • fuckin love this song, better than kinks to me

  • I agree 100%!

I still love The Kinks too, but this is just a superb cover imho.

  • @GodWatchingYou not that hard though. one of their worst songs, but this is very good

  • bought this in 1980.. excellent..

  • Why would anyone else care when you bought this?

  • Bring on the pain, tough guy. And why should I waste my precious time on shits like you? Oh, I get it, you're being "funny." Hope your hair grows back, sad sack.

  • what do u mean? hope my hair grows back?

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe she was in The Raincoats...

  • She's not in this band, but she's still awesome!

  • This would have kicked ASS live. it's still awesome here <3

  • I miss The Raincoats.

  • along with the louvin brothers' satan is real, my all-time favorite ellpee cover.
