As to why a female is singing the song - well, it introduces a whole other level of genderfrig to the track. :)

Personally, I think that men in bands should only play tambourine or sing backup, though there might be the occasional freak who can actually strum an acoustic guitar or play some simple piano (strict quota, and preferably mixed way down low); and they should only be cute - one extra ounce of fat or actually dressing for comfort should be grounds for expulsion.
