I used to have one since I was a youngster, and this was first reel-to-reel tape recorder I owned since I was 11 years old. I got rid of it since it was not working at all.
That sounds like a bit of crossover, if happens due to head alignment, the organ music may have been recorded on a different machine from the Panasonic so the heads don't line up. Normally 1/4 inch reel to reel machines record on four tracks but the tracks are staggered to seperate the channels, so it doesn't take much of a misalligment to end up with cross talk.
Nice Panasonic. I believe that's a Panasonic National. Are there any red "N" Panasonic logos on the unit? Great historic tape as well. I wonder if it were recorded today how it would describe the progress of Red China. Maybe the title would read "The World in Dept to Communist Red China"? LOL
@RetroPCDOS It sounds to me like the original audio could be recovered perfectly by playing it on a machine capable of selecting different tracks to be played. I would guess that it was recorded on a different machine than the Panasonic shown here.
I was thinking the same thing, that might have been recorded on one track, wonder if you play it on a stereo deck, you can isolate it to one channel or will it bleed over?

That is a really neat find. It sounds pretty good for its age and condition, and the machine itself looks nearly new.

The first chinese nuclear test was on October 16, 1964, so the tape probably dates shortly after that time.
