  • it was such a sad movie. the dancing was beautiful. wish there had been more of it. the scene where Jai goes to the singer because he is sad is beautiful. the colors were incredible. i was really hoping it would end differently, but life is not like that. One of my favorite movies.

  • Does any one know where to get this sound track from?? I looked on the official sound track and it not on there =/

  • I like this clip. The dance is beautiful. East indian fabrics are gorgeous. :)

  • Big Head mode, ACTIVATED

  • Does anyone knows, the name of the song that they do the Odissi dance, in this scene?

Please, if someone does...share with me?

    Thanks a lot.

  • @ThePoetisa

    This is NOT Odissi!

It borrows some Odissi elements, but for example the mudras (hand signals) have nothing to do with any classical Indian dance.

  • When they were little, Tara was the pretty one. When they got older, Maya was the hot one.

  • maset chodan

  • Weird. Beautiful but weird. Way better than anything Lady Gaga could come up with.

  • Hello all youtuber´s I see that some users know the tradition of the odissi,

I used to dance classical ballet and some modern and jazz with that. After I stopped dancing classical I have been looking for something new, and I have been studying the odissi dances and others and taken some classes. This dance is very good, and I was wondering if i could possible find it somewhere? I also have been studying the kama sutra and was simply enchanted when i saw this movie.

  • @MultiSigrun Please I know this is an old T., but what is the difference with Odissi and Bhratha Natyam, please?

I love these dances, but studied too late in life. I know all forms of Belly dance and Khaleegi. But this dance form is beautiful! It speaks to your soul.

  • @molarmama5

They are practiced in different parts of India: Odissi in Orissa, and Bharatanatyam in the South, around Chennai.

As for the movements, odissi is much softer. That is the basic difference :)

In bharatanatyam, the spine is almost always "rigid". But Odissi has these really soft, isolated leans and hipwork.

The mudras (hand signals) and the basic footwork is similar... I mean, for an outsider.

And of course the traditional clothing and jewels are also different.

  • @Tamynimfa

Check out some videos on youtube, and I am sure you will be able to tell the difference :)

Do not trust me, I am not an expert in either one, but I did learn Bharatanatyam for over a year, but then changed to Odissi almost 2 years ago.

Oh, and I am from Hungary, not from India :P

  • Life is to love and live. Sex is the best thing a man can have...imagine a man having millions of dollars but dying virgin !!!

  • my favorite movie in the whole world!

  • whats the movie name!

  • Great cinematography! Great film!

  • beautiful

  • you need to be there to be seduced not watch some pg13 movie clips.

  • Wow, Indian women can really move...

  • Interestingly enough, both of the adult actresses dancing are half Indian.

  • @Ooga001 That's not nice at all. In fact, I am white and my husband is Indian and someday we will have beautiful children. Beauty is as beauty does.

  • STUNNING culture and beautifully shot; I love this movie.

  • @InnateNobility this movie is about courtesans who are brought up in that tradition of temple dancing.. it is NOT emblematic of Indian culture at all. It was common for kings and priests to use these women; not a common man.

  • how to see the full movie

  • Buy it? ;-)

  • LOl "u know" can't bootleg Quality" =)

  • you can probably find it in blockbusters or you can have them order it to the store for you. You can also search Amazon and eBay. :)

  • thats why it is important to learn about other cultures, you learn awesome things. i love this scene, the dancing is beautiful.

  • Excuse But They're Not BITCHES

    Far Above That....

    I Guess U Don't Know Quality.

    2 Bad 4 U

  • the beats, the percussion instrument used (pakhwaj) and the body postures- tribhanga or the three bends of teh body, all relate to Odissi

  • Yes, its not kathak, its based on the other dance form called ODISSI, which originated from the state of Orissa in east India... it was called the Kalinga empire during the rule of King Ashoka

  • Gladly, this dance being performed is in the 'khatak' tradition - a school of northern indian/persian dance which is a classical 'interperitive' dance. This dance tells a tale or suggests a narrative. Khatak is most often seen as the 'mujra', a classical Indian burlesque of sorts. Here the dancers are enticing their lovers by calling attention to their eyes and accentuating their breasts by means of their hands. They flirt, coyly and suggestively w/their eyes, and mime the unwrapping of a sari.

  • This isn't Kathak. If anything its Odissi.

  • I love this dance type, but as I undestand it tell us an tale with the movements and the facial expressions, can someone tell me what is this performance telling? please.

  • THIS MOVIE IS SO GOOD!

  • its fantastic, mystic and beautiful how they dance

  • Oh wow... these ladies are so Gorgeous!

I love to watch this movie.. a great love story from beginning to end.!

  • this scene is great! I love Mira Nair's style

she is a great filmaker and has a very femenine point of view, which is awesome to watch ... delightfull

  • this is a very special movie.i love these dances

  • MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE!!!

  • My favourite film ever!!!!!!

  • OMG! Thank you for putting this up. its one of my favorite scenes!

  • There were alot of people actually who were quite insulted by this movie....I am waiting on my list for it on Netflix and can't wait to see it. But I am even MORE interested now, after objections to the movie, to read about the History of India in this time period.

  • i think they're insulted simply 'cause they can't get any....they really are a prude bunch aren't they, I personally love this movie and even memorized the dance!!!

  • But what is "they"? Aren't "they" from the culture this movie is trying to portray? And as thus, if it is an incorrect portrayal, wouldn't it be their right to be insulted (like with the more recent Geisha movie portrayal)? Like I said, I reserve my judgement until I actually see the movie (don't know when I will put it to front of queu).

  • partly. "they" is the people that criticize this movie wrongly in my opinion. some of the people in that culture still hang on to the idea of constant modesty. yet they have temples over there SHOWING scenes of kama sutra poses. they seem to have 'forgotten' the old ways in favor of british influence (i have nothing against the british). i DO respect your view on this though, so no hard feelings.

  • No problem. I personally don't share the superoffended view of this (though my knowledge on the iriginal texts is limited) and I am just bringing up more almost my surprise AT the amount of ofense taken (like with Slumdog Millionaire)

  • i love this movie

  • A most incredible movie from India.

  • THEY'RE SOOO BEAUTIFUL!

  • hii im from mexico and i dont know so much about indian culture but i loved this video!!! i like this beauty dance... good jb!!

  • Its more of an Art.. people mis understand the culture

  • Is't it weird to sexualise young girls.

  • no it was considered art.. not to exploit girls.

  • I see like Richard Barnbrooks, 'homo erotic art'.

  • Like with any sort of dancing; ballet, belly dacing, tribal, latin (what have you)....you must begin at a young age in practicing and preparing and shaping your body for those dances. It is a part of human culture to dance. You can dance at any age, but to condition the body for dancing, it is best to begin conditioning young :).

  • This is an extremely well-made, beautiful, excellent movie.

  • epic indians masters of sex who wouldve known :O. Prolly thats how they no.1 population -.-..(nearly..) and they dont even seem to talk about sex ;/

  • the movie is great and really romantic.

  • where to watch the full movie of a Tale of Love?

  • its on you tube, but only people over 18 can access it though ,the last time i checked all of it wasnt there-your best bet is to rent or buy the dvd to see all of it and beware it's VERY graphic.

  • I wasnt aroused but the girl in the orange is pretty , but the children , the one with the small face and the pretty eyes is the gorgeous one.

  • i saw this movie in 4th grade, i cried so hard, ive loved it ever since

  • I want to watch it all! XD

  • haahhaha

  • Where can I watch this online?

Just wondering, cuz i can't find it anywhere

  • It's on Nabolister...look in the 'movies' section and then in the 'Romance' section.

  • you can watch this one google video

  • whats the movie?

    i mean name of movie?

  • Kama Sutra, or Maya and Tara.

  • It's called: Kama Sutra - A Tale of Love

  • I wish these drum tracks were included in the soundtrack, but nope!

  • errrrrrrm i dont get this vid :s

  • this is simply magic...

  • this movie is just lovely, lush, seductive and deeply emotional. my dh and i watched it about 9 years ago and i wish we would add it to our library!

  • can someone tell me the name of their outfits? Where can you get them online? I totally agree they need to put the movie online

  • All Sarita has to do is stand there and she's gorgeous.

  • alright. usually when people use "concern" it is usually in a negative way. "interest" probably would have been less confusing, meanings can easily be miscontrued over the internet lol

  • you're concerned? History has shown this has happened before. After all, the Trojan war was started over one mans love for a woman: Paris and Helen of Troy.

  • please I want to watch this movie but I can´t find the page can anyone help me thanks

  • i LOVE THIS MOVIE ME AND MY MAN LOOOOOOOVE IT

  • Americans love this foreign cultural intrigue. That's why pop stars like Madonna, scour the planet to recreate themselves.

  • What's a movie?

  • It is a beautiful movie... some disliked it because of the nudity, others, funny, because it was a love story.... since India has such conservative rules for movies, no wonder Indira Varma got a bad result out of it. But its a shame it did not do better in the western world..

  • i loved the movie and would watch this scene over and over. thanks for posting it.

  • It's quite hot there, y'know ;)

  • it's natural...but apparently you forgot that

  • I loved that movie, thanks a lot for posting this.

  • I have this movie. Luv it!!!!!

  • What kind of dancing is this?

  • It is called bharatanatyam

  • i think it is odissi not bharatanatyam
