Just a bit of advice: Take a few lessons and/or buy a DVD on technique for electric bass. If you don't get your right hand technique down now it will be harder to correct in the future.Trust me you will become a much better player for doing the work.Best of luck with your playing.

And RHCP is not something that requires years of experience to play. I can play Hard to Concentrate (and several other songs now since it's been 2 and a half years since I made this video) in full, no mistakes. Go somewhere else and complain. Not my video.

Partially correct, from what I've read. Jack White DOES play the riff on his guitar, but it's run through an octave pedal to make it sound like the bass. Which is why you can play it on the bass and it sounds right.

You are learning bass wrong, Your playing is definitly not bad at all, I compliment your knowledge of "riffs" you should Work all DAY on alternating your fingers and resting your thumb on your pickup instead of deadening your Low E string with extra un-nes oils, and your tone could use some work, but it might be because you are digging on peavy so much

Yeah, I'm aware of all of that. Since this video is from 9 months ago, I've gotten the time to fix things up a bit more. I've gotten better at alternating since then. As for where I rest my thumb, my bass teacher says it's fine. I do place it on the pickup for songs that use the E string a lot, though. For the oils, I just clean my strings on a regular basis. For the tone, it's actually pretty good. Keep in mind that I recorded this video with a pretty low quality camera and all. :P

try adding in a distortion petal here and there. it will work better for certain sounds. i personaly use multiple petals for my bass such as overdrive and distortion. Also, try a thumb pick or bass pick for different sounds. As such, U2 uses a lot of picking for their bass lines. Just some friendly advice

The problem with a pedal, is that since I was recording this with just a straight camera (no fancy plugging the cable into a computer or anything), the distortion would've muddied up the sound waaaaaaay too much. And I have two different bass picks (a plain thick one and a felt one), but I generally prefer the sound of finger strumming. :3

If you know how to play the piano, then I'd recommend bass over guitar.

Playing the bass is somewhat easier. It requires a better knowledge of music theory, which you've probably learned through piano. The main thing that you'd have to work on is strumming speed.

Guitar tends to focuses more on chords and progressions. It gets complicated when you start working on Barr chords and switching between them quickly.

In short: Bass focuses on theory and style. Guitar focuses on skill and technique.
