I love this film and wish I could find a perfect copy of it. This is such a beautiful scene. Her voice is like heaven. All those who visit here...... let us send Mme Eggerth loving and grateful energy that she may reach happy and healthy her hundredth birthday April 17 2012. She is the last of a world and way of life that few today can imagine. Thank you.
With this film I fell in love with Marta Eggerth while living in Munich mid 80's. I had the privilege of meeting her twice, Zurich, NYC 90's. Her presence and voice moved me to tears. She is a lovely woman full of humour and heart. Soon to be 100. I love you Marta, now and forever.
She is so so beautiful....I just want to 'jump' into the movie and kiss her passionately...is it just the pseudo mystic effect of old b/w coupled with the magic of Schubert....or do they not make ladies like this anymore...?
She has a lovely voice. She is Jan Kiepura's widow and has made a great career with him especially in the USA. They both were very good singers and renowned in the 30s and 40s.
Could you tell me what the film is titled? I am attempting to either find a copy of the film, or a recording of her performing this song....but as of yet, I have had zero luck! :(
The original German version (1933) is titled "Leise flehen meine Lieder". In 1934 was made the English version "Unfinished Symphony" using some other actors.
In this scene, Schubert has come to tutor singing for the daughters of a rich man (one of them is Matha Eggerth, who has manipulated the job for him after spoiling his society debut concert)
amazing, stunning voice! I love it, and made me fall in love with the song even more!

May be, this is not the most technically perfect rendition of this piece, but God, how charming!
