First, what a waste of an AMAX projo. they're designed for tight groupings at 800+ yards. A 25 cent API tip instead of a $2 amax would have yielded better results at such a short range. Second, 50 bmg's are only exagerated by people that know nothing about them or have ever even shot one. These rounds have incredible energy. Getting hit with one in the head at 1500 yards would be the same as a 44 magnum at point blank. I've put holes in 2" plate steel that look like they were drilled with a bit.
lol all of those people saying that it doesn't show much don't know how much the power of this bullet is exaggerated. Take call of duty 4 for example: in the game it blows the WHOLE arm of off a badguy (just using a popular game as an example, don't really think the game is that great....). Tthis vid shows that exploding people, or ripping off limbs won't happen in a lifetime.
@shadowmanwkp You should see my brother, he was shot in the arm with a 12 gauge Winchester slug, he only has one arm now. With a hollow-point 50 BMG, I'm sure limbs will fly.
@skunkape2 It was a giant block, dude. Chill, if you want the specs, ask the Brassfetcher. If I recall, the permanent cavity was 7+inches in diameter, so it is a 50, just hard to see. For reference, you're torso is about 9.5 inches, so your organs are now tainted hamburger after that shot.
@sluginsaddlebuckshot i found it. "Bullet traveled point-forward, creating a permanent cavity of 2.0" diameter until 7.8" penetration depth. At this point, the bullet turned sideways, completely separating the aluminum tip section from the lead core and copper jacket, creating a permanent cavity of 7.5" diameter until bullet exit at the back of the block at 16.0" depth. Exit hole at back of block was 2.8" in diameter." look up the extreme shock ammo tests. wow... total disintegration.
@pinhead61187 I think I'd rather go out with such a big round than something like a 9mm. It'd be over quick and your friends could brag "My buddy was so tough they had to use an exploding 50 cal to kill him" =D
Bad video, but I suspect that's only because he forgot to link to the results. Unfortunately, I can't link to the picture, but if you put this /hornadyamax.html on the end of the link in the description (brassfetcher), you can find it.

@patchbunny its cause they were to close any military sniper will tell u the round was going to fast to mushroom out now if they were 600-900 yerds give or take it would had blown up
Well I'm not too big on your video....the photos and information posted on brassfetcher are second to none, very good info....Also ferret50 is a nice website.

@morgan4xl vicodin aint that strong buddy idk what u were takin but it wusnt vicodin even morhpine wouldnt let me allow people to shoot me in the nuts or phentanol or demoral or or oxycontin or nothin
It didn't even hit the gel from what I saw. A 7.62x54R bullet will invert a gel that size with an FMJ from the sheer energy and lack of weight to resist...so if I'm wrong the A-max Hornady bullet for these is the most pathetic expanding slug ever devised.
not nececaraly ( i know i dont know how to spell worth shit) if the bullets going fast enough it can go right through it ( im not stating that i am a gun expert just my opinion)
yeah those are good guns. you can get them cheaper if you're willing to fix up the wood a bit. I bought my SKS for a little over 200, all that was wrong with it was scuffed up wood. i just re-did it and it looks brand new
Why did this get such a low rating? It's just a video for the data from a test on brassfetcher ... Which is a very very reliable ballistic gel testing facility.
different round types and different impact material. The gell is made to move around the bullet while stopping it. humans have bone which catch the bullet and make excessive exit wounds.
Well lets see here. What would take longer to stop, a freight train at 60 mph. or a motorcycle at 60 mph.? A freight train can take over 1/2 mile to stop while cruching a car while a motorcycle would need how much room to stop plowing in to a car? Can anyone do the calculus for us here?
Correct me if I'm wrong here but I don't think the 5.56 was designed to tumble but rather it just doesn't take much to cause a 55 grain bullet to tumble. A standard .22 is less likely to tumble and more likely to expand as it's not an fmj.
Not so much the diameter of the bullet, exactly, but it's either the bullet, the bore (from either the lands or grooves), or some number near one of those. For example, the .50 BMG uses a .510" bullet, but the distance between the lands in the rifling is approximately .50".
Ya I know. but it's a generalized explination. another example would be a .380. the actual diamiterof a jacketed .380 auto is actually around .357 or 9MM. so basically the .357 .380 and 9MM are all the same bullet.
Okay, according to you, i could say 500 caliber or 5 caliber or 50000000 caliber and mean a five inch bullet. And the reason a .50BMG would leave a big ass hole in you is the same reason a .223 can leave a bigger exit wound than entrance wound. You are correct when you say construction is more vital, which is exactly why I said "hand-loaded". And lastly, take a look at this video and then tell me how you could say "What makes U think that a half inch bullet would leave a hole more than that?".
When you say, "400 caliber", do you mean 400.0 or 4.0? Because there's a difference. And a hand-loaded bullet could cut you in half if it's made properly with the right type of components. And lastly, assuming that all/any of my firearms experience is from video games is pretty fucking retarded. And saying that a 50 BMG woould just put a half inch hole in you is just fucking retarded. And, lastly, stop bitching just because not everybody worships your fantastic 5.56mm.
no I didn't I said it would take your arm off if it hit you and if it grazed you it would still rip up your shit. You're putting words in my comment that aren't there. Lurn 2 reed.
no I had a point and you're trying to bury it under ad hominem and hyperbole because you can't win a rational argument.
I also find it difficult to believe you have some kind of masterful grasp of physics when you can't even spell. Look I'll say it again. If you get grazed with a projectile carrying 13-14 thousand foot lbs of energy your day is going to be ruined. Now go back to jerking off over your little AR-15 and dreaming about the day when you'll be a marine corps reject.
A .50 has the ballistic energy to cut you in half. You're not going to to "fishing toxic pieces of metal out of your body", you're going to be looking for the bottom half of your torso.
you obviously have no idea what your talking about. the hydrostatic shock alone would explode most of your organs and leave a exit/entry wound the size of a grapefruit
You have no idea what you're talking about. Contrary to popular belief the 5.56 FMJ round doesn't yaw that often when hitting a body. It more often than not punches a .223 size hole. Why the debate about a more powerful round (6.8mm) if the 5.56 has such stopping power? The energy and sheer mass of a 700 grain bullet hitting flesh is tremendous. No comparison.
look dude I'm an Iraq combat vet and I can personally attest that a .50 bmg will take your arm off and carries so much energy that you can graze someone and rip them up from the air friction. If a .50Bmg hits you in the guts you're not worried about little metal fragments because your guts are liquid mush 5 feet behind whereever you landed.
