Why are people so incensed about this now. The idea of increasing profit margins by way of exploiting vulnerable people was in its inception years before now. Why didn't anybody stop it then? This Prison Industrial Complex will not so easily be removed mainly because it's prisoners we're dealing with here and surely they are an easy victim for the state to target!! Challenge this by legislation and see what happens!!

The real problems that lie here are the motives for incarceration. For example, there is a 100 to 1 disparity between crack and powder cocaine. In other words, 5g of crack is mandatory 5 year sentencing, but you need 500g of powder to yield the same sentencing. The growth in the prison population and privatizing prisons started with the war on drugs which went after crack ruthlessly and it just so happens that most minorities used crack, while all the rick whites doing blow got lesser sentences.

I am from Eastern Europe and I totally support Labor in Prison.

Prisoners in My country enjoy WORK, Health care, Education etc etc.

We don't have death Penalty and our crime Rate is minimal.

This is such an interesting topic and I for one was not aware of this. I know it's in your heading, but you should name names and states that do this and talk about what we as individuals can do.
