Totally underrated...but small countries hadnt any change to win at the time. Big countries collected all points. Eurovision song contest were so corrupted.
And who says that today is not the same ... televoting does the same but focusing on diasporas and neighouring votings ... It's never gonna be fair in any way.
@oneurope Luxembourg won 5 times actually LOL. And yes Belgium won in 1986, Swizerland in 56 and 88 (Céline Dion??) and Estonia in 2001 although in 2001 we had the televoting which either expressed too much political views coming from whoever voted and also that was the time when music quality in ESC was irrelevant - let's have fun let's enjoy the show ... with the silliest and what-the-fuck number on stage we can possibly have. It's stil like that in these days saddly.
@peku999 It was more a political/cultural thing: countries with bigger and wider political influence in Europe like the United Kingdom or Germany and even France had very significanlty good results in Eurovision. In those days that had a lot of influence and saddly coutries like Finland with a less impact had found little sucess in Eurovision at times.
@peku999 In overall many great songs were underrated but unlike today some of the best songs were top 5. You can call jurys conservators but at least one could feel that music was the main focus there with more or less political games in between the lines, Today it's okey to play politically in Eurovision because the so beloved and democratic televoting has no shame to show how people feel about other coutries - who cares for the music anyway? That has been a sad downfall in ESC for me :(
What a lovely presenter! I'd totally forgotten.. presenting the song in three languages. Anyway a nice performance, reminiscent of the days when one simply got on stage and sang a song.
That is the problem! Every eurovision has someting in it.Kim Wilde was edited. We used to play records backwards.Beatles did that with they major hits!Gimmegimme gimme a break!
@davfirenze No Cambodia was released in 1982 .... and the chorus here is what draws the similarities not the whole song obviously. For the first moment I heard this finnish entry Cambodia came to mind in an instant ... still I like the song in overall. 11th place was very undeserved indeead.

Good song, but perhaps too much sovjet/communist touch to my taste.

One of the best songs ever in the history of ESC.

Very ABBA-like. Reminds me of the sadder ABBA songs, like 'One Of Us', 'SOS', 'The Winner Takes It All' and 'The Day Before You Came'.

Despite sounding a bit like Kim Wilde's "Cambodja" ... this was also one of the best entries of 1983

That'll be why that HUGE country LUXEMBOURG won in 1983 and massive Belgium won in 1986?!
Do you have any idea what you are talking about?!

@peku999 I totaly disagree!
GERMANY has only won ONE time - in 1982 - and the country is that country with
the largest population in Europe!
FRANCE has won 5 times, well, but the last time was 1977 - 33 years ago!
UK has like France won 5 times, the last in 1997!
SPAIN has only won 2 times and both times were during the SIXTIES!

@peku999 yeah, finland isn't that small, you know, and even the smallest participating country in europe, Monaco, has won as well.

I think this is a great song, and a great and charming performer. But the dance "moves" from 3:45 remind me of Daisy Duck...

This is very nice entry from Finland.
But this is question to these in charge:
Why did all the participants have parts that did not go so well?
Ami: Clearly a miss in tune here and there. Was there some exitement/pre-exitement present?
Chore: They missed the most important part of it... suck!
As well as the composer / keyboarder.. Kuusamo.
This is why this entry only got 41 points so it makes it a real under-doer.
PS. Must say that still the Geist was there. Love it!
