I LOVE YOU MAN :P LOL - just fixed my old dusting 60GB launch version. I used a hairdryer instead of heatgun. The damage of heat was clearly seen on the fan, as it had melted into funny shape. LOL i patched it up with paper towels and some tape. Lets see how long it will last. I made a mistake of doing system update and now i cant jealbreak this MothaF****. :)

That happened to me too it doesn't seem to fix itself over time. If any of you have a game trapped in it do this. Turn the console off (normal red light) then hold the eject button. The cd will pop out after.

If you're bold, you take the console apart (take care with all the screws and parts), clean the heat sinks on the CPUs, then heat them for 15 seconds with a heat gun at 350 degrees C. Apply some fresh thermal paste, reassemble, and go. Just did it for my son's PS3 tonight. Took a little over an hour.

They think the repeated heating/cooling isn't good for the hardware so they leave it on 24/7/52. It has never had any problems whatsoever. they do the same thing with their 360s, but need a new one every 4-6 months! It's a bachelor pad full of gaming addicts :D

False alarms guys. PS3 has built-in failsafe for overheating. First of all, it never heats up to alarming levels no matter how intense the use. The only reason it'll heat up is because the fan might get defective, or cease to work. In that case, the PS3 switches off itself and shows the yellow light for caution.

Still, I can't stress enough. THIS IS A VERY RARE phenomenon, practically non-existent in the newer 45nm 40GB afterwards models.

I have had to send my ps3 in to sony TWO times already. The first time i had to send it in because the blu ray drive went bad, then 2 weeks later i get the yellow light. They fixed it, AND NOW 3 MONTHS LATER, AFTER THE 90 DAY WARRANTY THIS SHIT HAPPENS AGAIN! I'm not sending my ps3 in again and paying $150 just so it can happen again after the warranty is up. I thought this error meant that it was overheated. It happened to me once, so I let it rest (I played it for 13 hours straight!) and the next time i turned it on it was back to normal. Same with the ring of death, only I smacked the side of the 360 hard.
