No, the critical difference is that the UK has no terretorial control over the USA and Canada, wheras Cyprus is part of the Hellenic Republic, ruled from Athens, not from nicosia. While Cyprus is indepenant as a state, it is still "annexed" to Greece.

@ballz300 the greek language was born here, it was compained with the phoenician language because phoenicians came here for trade. some of the symbols of the greek language have phoenician origin because here greeks introduced the phoenician language, they changed it so that it fit them better and greek language was born. yeah you are right first people but at the times the greeks arrived everything changed and cyprus gained greek identity.

People speak the same language in Germany and Austria, but Germans and Austrians are very different peoples. Many Arabs speak French as their first language, that doesn't make them French people.
Cyprus has its own culture, history and dialect of the Greek language. We Cypriots should have pride in all that! What is so special about Greece that we can not simply focus on our Cypriot heiratage.

No, the critical difference is that the UK has no terretorial control over the USA and Canada, wheras Cyprus is part of the Hellenic Republic, ruled from Athens, not from nicosia. While Cyprus is indepenant as a state, it is still "annexed" to Greece.

@RCCYP the situation in cyprus is very different. The only common factor that these countries have is their language. Cyprus and Greece don't just share the same language. They share same religion,same language,same national anthemn,same culture,same history. Except from that the first people in cyprus were Greeks, so we are greek as well. We are the same nation. so that's why cyprus is greek.
