  • love the books got them for christmas

    back in the day

  • its cool to see how alot of these iseas have filtered thru into modern sci fi movies. ( like those floating islands which look heaps like scenes from avatar etc ) i was telling my kids how all the sci fi was in books when i was their age and was glad you had posted this so i could show them exactly what i was on about. they were totally excited by it, just like i was. thanks for posting!

  • WoW Terran Trade Authority Forever!! Stewart Cowley T.T.A. Leader Forever!! Great Job Loved the Music! Thanks God Bless Grey

  • I've got some of these pictures as posters on my wall!

  • Algunas naves se parecen al de Star Wars.

  • *sigh If only people would stop fighting over who's god is better...

  • Shit I wish I wasn't even born in this time era. Ever since I started watching shows and playing games science fiction related, I always envy our future generations. Getting to go to space and live in big ass cities, hang out with aliens and robots.

  • @Motion63O

There is also a fair chance you will end up pitying our future generations, depending on how our world progresses. Flooding, famine, wars, the collapse of civilization as we know it as we overburden our planet and nature decides to restore some semblance of balance.... Whether we are on the cusp of greatness or despair... it's a knife's edge.

  • @dunnono00 hmmmm.... going point. But still, I want to go to space! :D

  • when theory overcomes the resources

  • @optimistavf Hopefully, we will get more resources from external sources (IE, other planets or sentient trading).

  • @abledbody hopefully, but at first we should evolve technology for it, then get enough money and fly there somehow... these are the resources that I'm talking about.. however we still can't deal with ourselves in this tiny little world, cause of pettinesses ... but I'm optimistic.. soon will everything change, working on it!

  • Sigh. And to think we could have been on Mars since the early 1980s.

  • may be there will be super natural life exist after humman, imagine super man people exist or Yoda..... :)

  • The sad moment when you realize you were born too early...

  • Comment removed

  • wowowowowow, where did you fin these pictures? awesome job!!

  • i have this book...its totally underrated...its what inspired me to go into conceptual design as a graphic artist..visually...you have to know your roots of passion before you set of to create something totally out of the box...these fine artist knew that...I just one day we will catch up with our dreams before the future becomes our past.

  • Thank you for uploading these. It's really hard to get a hold of this kind of art now. I'm lucky with that I recently vame into possesion of Chris Foss' 'Hardware' and '21st Century Foss'.

  • Awesome all 5 videos

  • blbost

  • THE FUTURE IS NOW!

  • THANK YOU!!! Had a lot of these images in a book when a was a kid.

  • AND THE MUSIC MATCH PERFECTLY

    THANKS !

  • can someone build a spaceship like this in the near future? Cause i'm interested.

  • @ciak1 Well, we already have 3 interstellar probes - 2 of them remain active: Voyager 1 and 2 are active, Pioneer 11 (I think) is dead by now. Now, it would take several thousand years to get to the closest star, but they are still interstellar :P

Interstellar travel won't be viable until either fusion or antimatter propulsion comes around. Or gigantuan photon sails.

  • I have a copy of Spacecraft 2000-2100 A.D., and I absolutely love it. I wish I had the other TTA books.

  • @TheRealSiguy -YEP, YOUR NOT THE ONLY ONE MY FRIEND !!!....I REMEMBER "READING" THESE TTA BOOKS IN THE 70'S, YOU HAD TO GRAB THEM QUICKLY,OR SPECIAL ORDER THEM....BUT, ALAS, HOPE IS NOT LOST !!!....THEY ACTUALLY HAVE THEIR OWN SITE !!!....JUST GO TO YAHOO, AND TYPE IN "TTA BOOKS", OR GO TO AMAZON, AND LOOK THEM UP, IT'S THAT SIMPLE MY STAR-STUDDED SPACE PILOT !!!....AD ASTRA TO YOU,MY FRIEND, AND FOR ALL OF THOSE WHO WOULD EMBRACE THE FUTURE !!!

  • I'm sure some of the illustrations at 6:31onwards were concept art for the planned film version of Dune originally conceived in the mid-70's (which ultimately didn't go anywhere)

  • From 2:05 that blue hover car interior looks like the interior of my old Citroen XM. I miss that car...

Anyway, great video - I'm also a fan of White, Foss and many others and spent many a happy hour daydreaming during school thinking of these images wondering what if. These may be futuristic but how I see it, if mankind can imagine it then we can build it....eventually.

  • Where Can I download those images?please

  • great video.

  • nice nostalgia, i can't remember the book i remember some of these from..

  • pretty cool...thx for sharing.

  • Is it just me or that's how people see the year 2100

  • This is a great vid, and I remember a lot of these. It would have much better had you not moved the cam, simply posted each pic. You transition out of the pics too quick, while moving the cam, and it's hard to make out much about these pics because of it. Just show the pics. They are nice enough without putting effects and cam movement to "spice them up."

  • Yay Chris Foss!!!!!!

  • The sun with rings dosen't make sense. The tiny asteroids would burn like the snap of a finger.

  • Watching this just makes me wish the leaders (corporate & political) of the world would get their heads out of their asses and get this planet fixed so we can start building towards the kind of future dreamed of in the golden age(s) of sci-fi.

  • @Joyfulcheese Agreed

  • @Joyfulcheese -THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THEY NEED TO DO BRO !!!....YOU'VE GOT MY VOTE !!!

  • This tune is awesome for this vid.And I gotta say, this vid is very inspiring for my sci/fi art I am doing.Truly awesome;)

  • new ships will look like this just take a look the last nasa missions

  • Really ringly and dingly tunes on this video :)

    Thanks for uploading!

  • Can anyone tell me any other artists who are like syd mead...futuristic, not necessarily quality (don't think that's possible)

  • @kurumako Tim White, Jim Burns, Peter Elson, John Harris, Chris Foss.

  • Fuck it Im going cryo freeze myself and leave a reminder to wake me up when humans colonized other planets and made huge cities on them :)

  • @LouieLouieification cool so your going to snap freeze yourself like some meat Popsicle so the aliens can eat you like a snack 2000 years in the future....:P

    jokes..

  • spectacular visions of Sci-Fi artwork

  • ha I own and have owned these books from my child hood

  • Seeing this stuff reminds me of my anger.

I mean, I want to see what's out there.

I want to explore the literal universe.

    But we can't.

    And most-likely never will...

  • @MrSwaghack yeah,i feel the same way.still worth reaching for though. i plan on getting my body frozen after death. its called cryonics(its fairly inexpensive).there is alot of evidence which suggests its possible to revive people after being frozen for centuries, the technology is already feasible. it might be the only chance to see the future where space exploration is reality. its worth a try in my opinion.

  • thumbs up if u saw a face in the clouds at 7:12

  • At 3:07... Death Star?

  • What's the background music? Thanks :'D

  • can someone please send me the first picture in real format?

  • what year win who ever panted them in ninetean eighty nine

  • This video makes me think about diabetez and lotion. Anybody else?

  • Chris Foss and Tangerine Dream!!! Beautiful Expansive Imaginative Dream world. I am so glad you have put this together, It reminds me of my roots. This is who I am % was since a little child. I was drowned to Chris Foss and his Science Fiction paintings I was captivated by his imagination. Later I got into music that consumed the rest of my life and Tangerine Dream was one of the first musical encounters that changed my life forever. Now I am inspired to put my music to Chris Foss Art. Thank you

  • Very nicely done!

  • Absolutely stunning, and very fitting music choice in Tangerine Dream. Thanks a lot for sharing this.

  • Wonderful Sci-fi art! This is the type of artwork I grew up with and still love it. A great source of inspiration.

  • Great music choice!

  • It's Tangerine Dream : Stratosfear :)

  • You've done quite a public service here, my friend. I was just lamenting that no one ever gets to see this great old art anymore, unless they happen to be poking through my bookcase. I was debating doing something like this, but you've done a far better job than I ever could have. Thank you!

  • My god ..it's full of stars ...13 337 views x'D ...that has to mean something

  • 1:52 i'd tap that

  • All I get from this video is the future of a species run by a completely non-existent artificial being who they call God.

good luck, there is a reason these are just pictures.

  • My fav 1 is from the book "Spacecraft 2000-2100 AD"

  • hopefully the future would be like that so that our childrens children children can have a little adventure

  • Some of the images in this 5 part series are like old friends to me, others totally new. Either way, I'm so glad to find them, especially how they've been presented here, including the, as others have said, perfect music choice. Pure magic!!

  • i think Planet earth is becomin part of a larger universe and to me i think that wherere in the beginning and i Know this is fiction but i think that this is either the star wars or the star strek universe

  • Great post xx. I recognise most of these images from my collection of SF pb's and hc's.

I have a bedroom stacked and shelved with about 4,000 titles. I stopped this obsessive pursuit about 10 years ago. One of the reasons should be obvious. Did a bit of artwork myself, years ago, covers and illos for the BSFA. Love Hays and Whites work, for their detailed realism. In these post- airbrush days of CAD it's a pity that the pen and ink era is somewhat underappreciated. I.E.Virgil Finlay.

  • @git1958 So, ya gave up drawing too, hunh? That's a shame. Oh, well...

  • if only i could be alive to see this... :(

  • was this before star wars?

  • Ahhh... truly glorious!

  • great stuff...thank you...using this in my sci fi class

  • Watching these videos makes me want to play Full Thrust.

  • Thanks for this! Can you tell me who is the artist at 2 minutes, the woman holding her hand to her chest. Thanks :)

  • @spaceagebachelor

Tony Roberts I believe. Most of the others are by Angus Mackie.

  • @spaceagebachelor

Sorry no actually it was Jim Burns - the image was used on a Traveller RPG game box of miniatures (as well as a book probably)

  • @nstutt

    Yeah - that's it. Thanks :)

  • oh man i love these old books. food for the imagination. the terran trade authority series and galactic encounters series are some of my favorites.

  • This makes me dream about the future. I wish I could somehow travel to the places shown in the video. Why is our technological development so slow... :(

  • @jostpuur

your lament is so worthy of address brother!. Technological AND social AND psychological development!

  • @pokerdice1 Yes... I'm afraid that our technological development will partially depend on our social and psychological development.

  • @jostpuur Ha ha ha BP did a great demonstration of advanced technology LOL

  • These 5 part videos are incredible. They completely take you to another world. Great fitting music. And the HD quality is amazing. Thanks for the upload.

  • Thanks so much for this. I have a deep seeded passion for this stuff and finding these books is nigh impossible (although just last week I did score a copy of "Spacewrecks" at a local used book store) so digital archives like these are pure mana from heaven. You are a god amongst men.

  • Thanks, even finding this stuff online was difficult and I had a feeling i wasn't the only one that loves these amazing works. I'm glad fans are locating and enjoying it.

  • @xxnightopsxx good stuff bro i want to start collecting thees pics for my house :)

  • Respond to this video... were can i get these actual paintings ,,well prints ,,i aint rich

  • @Capng123 Ironically I've come across a copy of Spacewrecks myself at a local used book store. If you want to check out some old school space art, check out astrona.com

  • Les voitures volantes et tout ce genre de truck était déjà prévus pour 2000...alors on peut toujours attendre.

  • Yes, and now they say in twenty years they will solve the issue of mortality. At least then we will all have more time to wait for all the other miracles of technology that have been promised over the years.

  • @xxnightopsxx On a planet with a finite surface and an ever expanding human race population who now can live longer, say 200, 500 years or more. What a brilliant idea. : (

  • @xxnightopsxx lol

  • Simply beautiful, you couldn't have chosen better music for your video, Tangerine Dream gives it the perfect depth for your depiction, I still have a wonderful book from 1979- 1980 called SPACE WARS WORLDS AND WEAPONS by Steven Eisler, I don't know if you are familiar with it, it's got some of the images and drawings you've chosen for this posting, and it's really great to watch even more of these concepts in a way you could only have done it ...

  • Thanks Trevizons for all your comments, glad you like the video/s. I've checked out the cover of the book you mention and it does ring a bell but I'm not sure if I have seen it first hand. I see Amazon have a new collector's copy for US$59 and have added it to my list of books to grab.

  • @trevizons Thats the exact book I have, somewhere, back at home haven't seen for 20 odd years....was trying to remember what it was called to look up again, cheers! Great smashed robots in deserts I remember....

  • Awesome! What is this music, Tangerine Dream what? Love it, brings back good memories.

  • Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear and Rubycon

  • Thanks!

  • Brilliant. The music choice is perfect. It would be nice if we could get a picture list/artist credit (where known) so we could collect some of these prints!

  • My intention was to to try and group the images by artist and add titles of the book/magazine/film the image was done for - but realised I was going to create an impossible job for myself in terms of trying to organise and research it along with the time involved.

  • A lot of these images have been rattling around on my hard drives for some time after being downloaded (Google and Flickr are great for this) others I scanned from my collection of books. Namely - The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction, Great Space Battles, Spacecraft 2000-2100 AD - as well as the actual classic book covers. Time allowing I may put the whole lot of what I have up on Flickr to keep these great images alive.

  • Great thanks.

    "Time enought" ;)

  • Yes I suppose that the work would be too huge.

Perhaps just add the music track in the "info".

  • Great work, have you scanning all this stuff.

Hum need a new wallpaper when i see this amazing artwork.

Ha memories of all these books...

  • Some truly cool art here! Excellent video! 5*****
