The UN or god forbid NATO will be needed to be called into service probably in a couple of years because its getting worse every year. There is so much dysfunction going on, We are going down by the head and will need at some point immediate assistance.
we have suffered greatly together in british columbia, sometimes we must go through the bad times to reach prosperity. It is great sadness that many disturbing things have accumulated over time and have already happened.
I believe the solution to everyone's problem is this: Gather all the first nations and any other natives who feel wronged, and deport them to some island far far away and let them "live off their land" like in the old days. no one goes to that island, no one leaves that island. it can be called "Chug Island."
@ToonMachine Deport us Native People,,,we are First Nations,,which simply means,,,deport ur ass,,we were first to occupy this land. We tried living off our land,,until it was taken without our consent,,
Ha Kim, I truly think that you believe you only "believe facts". You indicate I "attacked the messenger". How do you support this "fact".... the facts I present expose yours for fallacy, and you conclude you are being attacked?
The facts will speak for themselves... and all have grown weary and impatient with this merry band of Occupy Squatters.
@MrMarcbubba Kim, and since you operate your life believing "facts only", let me educate you a bit regarding POLL results that you cling to so dearly.
Was this a "scientific poll?". When was it conducted? What were the questions (and were they unbiased). How big was the sample size? When poll taken, did pollsters understand the issues? What was the margin of error? Have pollsters opinions since changed or been influenced by other factors? Who is interpreting the results?
@72issues Since when did common sense and a strong work ethic become out of date? Since when did "Canadian-style" thinking become equated with laziness. You got this all backwards... You make no sense whatsoever. I will never "smarten up" to your left wing thinking... the welfare state has destroyed entire segments of society.
@oceanrefusesnoriver Rent is expensive... homes only go to those willing to work hard over the long haul, agreed. Some cannot work due to physical and/or mental infirmity... they need help from society. Those that basically "drop out" and expect taxpayers to support their lifestyle choices (many Occupy Squatters) no matter how damaging to themselves and society around them should be taught the mantra "you dont work (ie contribute) you dont eat". Necessity is the mother of invention.
@MrMarcbubba sounds like slavery to me, you do not work you do not eat, lots of the people from occupy vancouver work, just for your information. this goes to show how much TV perception molds minds. peace
@DesertFox57 We know that they snuffed out this fire that you found to be so sacred. WATCH THE VIDEO and you will see it! I just had a nice peice of toast, cooked up over the sacred toaster elements...
You guys should go light a sacred fire in Oakland or on the UC Davis Campus. Hahaha.. then you might see how good you have it here in Canada… and how nice the VPD and FD were to you idiots.
Just wondering: How did a movement to stop under regulated financial corporations in the United States of America and go after those that created the mess but made millions come to represent the "Right to start a Fire" against Vancouver City Fire Regulation? Lost Lost Lost
Please take the time to understand my culture before posting videos like this. How is a fire in a 40 gallon drum a 'sacred' fire for First Nations? What's so sacred about that? Just because a First Nation went and started a fire does not make it sacred or give you a reason to act like this in public. I find this incredibly disrespectul of the so-called 'Occupiers'. What an embarassment.
Okay..I was there, I am Ojibway, from the Anishnaabek Nation in Ontario and I too have questioned whether or not the fire in the oil drum was a "sacred" fire. I heard about the fire being lit earlier that day. they waited to have a "west coast" native be there to lite the fire because it is their traditional territory. Cultural protocol was followed as much as could be. the fact that it was in an oil drum is I believe now insignificant. there was only ever tobacco and prayers burned in the fire
the "sacred" fire is only "sacred" because we treat it as such. other wise there is no difference between a "sacred" fire and a "camp" fire...I was there, and I experienced the fire as "sacred" because it was treated as such. I know what I know and I believe what I believe...it "WAS" a sacred fire
@nishknob The Vancouver Fire Department simply dispensed some "sacred" water on that fire. I mean, to them, they experience water as "sacred". I happen to know that most firemen see water and fire retardent as being sacred to them. I also know alot of people that consider that land sacred to them, and watched it being desecrated by the occupy squatters. Thank goodness the police did not deploy any sacred pepper spray!
@meadowlark27 Im coming to your house with my 40 gallon drum, newspaper and matches. We'll see how tolerant you are of my sacred wiccan rights of Winter. We need some virgins, I dont suppose ya got any of those do ya?
More lies and propaganda. Some would have us believe that the Occupy Squatters actually save the city money? Beyond ridiculous. Extra city workers, paramedics, police and fire personnel pulled away from their usual duties. Use of toilet facilities to control disease. Electricity costs. Welfare costs. Health costs. Garbage collection/disposal costs. GET THIS INTO YOUR HEADS, THIS STUFF IS NOT FREE! MIDDLE CLASS TAXPAYERS AND YOUR CORPORATE ENEMIES DO! Keep that in mind and be thankful.
Kim, the Mainstream media has NEVER told the truth, yours or mine. They sell newspapers. Occupy Squatters, youth or otherwise, do NOT put themselves on the "front line" for my rights. There are Veterans (my direct family and otherwise) who fought and many died for those rights so people like Occupy Squatters even have an opportunity to protest (for better or worse). Dont insult us all by saying those dread lock headed druggies and societal drop outs represent middle class Canadians.
THIS IS A CONTRAVENTION OF THE FREEDOM OF RELIGION AND ALL INVOLVED MUST BE HELD TO ACCOUNT...I URGE THE ELDERS INVOLVED GO TO THEIR LEADERSHIP AND DEMAND THAY FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE CANADIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION. I WOULD ALSO URGE ALL FIRST NATIONS LAWYERS TO FILE FORMAL LAWSUITS IN ALL COURT LEVELS DENYING PEOPLE THE FREEDOM OF PEACEFUL ASEEMBLY, FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND FREEDOM OF RELIGION....WHERE IS THE AFN NATIONAL CHIEF SHAWN ATLEO ON THIS????..HE IS FROM BC....
@Gerald1249 Freedom of religion? Understand this... freedom's and rights come with even bigger RESPONSIBILITIES! You dont just light a fire in a barrel on public land where there is a very high likelihood that the fire could spread and/or people hurt or God forbid be killed. There were highly flammable materials all over the place there. There were also alot of unstable people under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and in some cases mentally ill. Kindly thank them for putting it out.....
To everyone who keeps flaming this movement over the fact that you think no one there has a job or pays any taxes, give your head a shake. The majority of the people involved in this have jobs and pay their taxes just like you. Just because the rest of us aren't satisfied with what we get for them doesn't make us leeches. Sorry to burst your bubble.
@Hellfyre17 No need to apoligize with respect to your rubbish! You say the majority of Occupy Squatters have jobs and pay their taxes???!!! Unless they are all using up their holidays to camp in downtown Vancouver, that is a complete lie from the pit of hellfyre. This movement is fuelled by lies and propaganda, not by those who disagree with all this it does (and does not) stand for. Watch the videos... most of the occupy people act like animals at best. This "movement" is embarassing.
@kimhunter2 Kim, this makes NO sense. First, the Occupy Squatters are not that organized. Second, where are they employed that one puts in a good 8hrs at work... then show up on the sidewalk for their "shift" day after day? When do they eat/sleep? And if just shift Squatting, whats with tent city? STOP TRYING TO PRESENT AS AVERAGE HARDWORKING CONSCIENSIOUS CITIZENS! We can all see who the squatters really are, regardless of the left wing media ignoring the truth in name of PC.
@MrMarcbubba MSM is in the pocket of corporations these people protest & cannot tell the truth
The youth are the ones putting themselves on the front line for your rights and freedoms.
Search Teachers support occupy or Unions support occupy or students support occupy or Veterans support occupy or Nurses support occupy Farmers support occupy
The middle class are being hit hardest by our democracy being hijacked by corporatism.
See "Who Is Occupy Chart". Most are educated professionals. Truth
@kimhunter2 Kim, any support this, for lack of a better word, movement has had is quickly dwindling and the middle class is particulalry fed up. Watch the videos... do you think average joe Canadian wants to align themselves with the Occupy Squatters and this type of civil disobedience? You want respect? Act respectful. You want credibility? Do what it takes to be credible. Dont just squat on the sidewalk, block traffic and interfere with businesses like a bunch of entitled winers.
@MrMarcbubba Seach: POLL: 58% of Canadians support Occupy. One small incident does not sway public opinion. This movement is on every continent. As more people become aware of the atrocities that our global governments endorse on behalf of corporatism and private profits, the movement only grows.
@kimhunter2 Kim, you say 58% of hardworking Canadians support Occupy?? You keep shouting that at yourselves through your corporate made mega-phone. What the public partially supports is idea that some corps could do some things differently, sure. They never supported the taxpayer supported Occupy Squat in our beautiful city. The stench coming from there, the mess/garbage. The drugs, assaults, death(s) and civil disobedience. The public and gov't patience is now VERY thin... be careful now!
@MrMarcbubba It's not my opinion. I am simply relaying information. This is a global phenomenon. Search: "POLL: 58% of Canadians support Occupy". Peace.
@kimhunter2 Oh Kim, why do you try to distort statistics so... Really, a 5 word sentence from a corporate poll in a corporate newspaper... and you take that to the bank... Shame on you.
Not only that, you say its a "global phenon", but the title you draft says "58% of CANADIANS"... but then you believe what you want to believe.
Again Kim, be careful out there. Christy Clark, the fire dept, the police, the public, the taxpayer, even little children have had enouph this crap.
@MrMarcbubba I believe facts. The poll was conducted by Nanosearch one month ago. "nanosresearch(dot) com/library". Once again sir, rather than attack the messenger, learn for yourself. I wish you all the best in your endeavours.
@kimhunter2 Kim, and since you operate your life believing "facts only", let me educate you a bit regarding POLL results that you cling to so dearly.
Was this a "scientific poll?". When was it conducted? What were the questions (and were they unbiased). How big was the sample size? When poll taken, did pollsters understand the issues? What was the margin of error? Have pollsters opinions since changed or been influenced by other factors? Who is interpreting the results?
@kimhunter2 Kim, I checked the survey. A sample of 1200 people between Oct 20 and 24. 32% of respondents had not even heard of occupy. At that time, only 22.9% even supported the demonstration or felt there were valid views being expressed.
These are your "facts".
FACT: Your so called 99% have grown weary, tired and impatient of the truth behind the Occupy Squatters. Taxpayers are still cleaning up the garbage and stench. Resources are being wasted. Squatters, just go home.
@MrMarcbubba No "trying" to do anything. Knowledge is power. Just presenting facts. If you really wanted to know the truth, you would be researching the facts instead of trying to discredit them with opinions.
@kimhunter2 Kim, I appreciate your position of spiritual and universal personal enlightenment... this heightened awareness of the world around you that only Occupy Squatters can see... something to do with a Sacred Fire Ceremony and sweet grass that once experienced brings on a new world view. Kim, ALL agree that governments and corporations could do many things differently. But very few of the "99%" agree with Occupy's methods of civil disobedience and expense to hardworking honest taxpayers.
@Hellfyre17 Whether protesters have jobs is irrelevent. They have cost Vancouver about $1 Million so far, I have been down there twice and I couldn't find a coherent message just rambling messages mostly "sticking it to the man".
@ScottLeaf Communism failed miserably, capitalism has built this society it has provided you wil ideals like RIGHTS & FREEDOMS. It has conjured up the iPhones you use Twitter to organize your anti-corporate messages. The corporations you demand pay more taxes are mostly owned by pension funds of citizens who spent their lives working to raise families with an expectation of retirement income.
@ScottLeaf -- Another loon-comment by somebody who isn't embarrassed to display their profound 'stupid & proud of it' ignorance, in this case about something they act like they know a great deal about. MANY ideas re: Rights & Freedoms that US & Canada adopted were inspired by & borrowed from longstanding traditions, beliefs & values of Native American Nations who befriended the colonists & then were subsequently exploited, betrayed & decimated, The Ogalala, Lakota, Cree, Chippewa, Cherokee, etc.
@starmanskye The only Loon is the first one that throws the stone, perhaps you should reconsider your understanding of debate and idea exchange. Aboriginal Societies are very respectful of this oh wise and tolerant one, why not you 'name caller'?
@ScottLeaf Mainstream media can't tell us the truth. We need to dig deeper. I watched the live City Hall discussion on Occupy. Jimmy Chu of the VPD said that the $500 000 was the VPD own miscalculations on the day 6000 marched in light of the hockey riot.
Occupy Vancouver has since saved the city $1 000 000.
See "No Risks Only Benefits of Occupy Vancouver" for the breakdown.
So I take it that this was caused by the self entitled Occupy hippies?
They should have let the oil drum fire continue. Maybe it would have lit up the squatters and tent city like a Christmas tree. It sure as fuck wouldn't be a bad thing. These viruses are getting free health care. Healthcare that my fucking taxes help pay for. Healthcare from the same government they're having teenage angst against. Healthcare that they clearly don't deserve, but they get anyway.
This is an example of how the Welfare system has destroyed an entire generation...turning them into pathetic entitled lazy substance abusers who DEMAND to be provided with housing/med care/needles, etc. You choose your lifestyle... dont demand the rest of us become co-dependant by supporting this kind of crap. Oh, and sacred fire? *clap/clap*. Nice try.
I am so proud! So proud of the professionalism and restraint that Vancouver Fire and PD showed when forced to contront a rabid mob of Occupy Squatters. You saw it here folks, Occupy Squatters version of Utopia.
Did you hear that guy at the end.... they shut down our F***in Sacred Bon Fire!
Let me get this right? If some First Nation guy spreads a little cedar dust and says a little mumble jumble and its now a sacred fire? No wonder most people now look at these camp protesters as nothing but whinny lefties against this, against that, and against everything else.
What an embarrasement -- Indigeneous people do not conduct themselves this way. Shame on you producer for trying to put this negative light on our people!
@angelahance Noooooo, NOT shame on me. In fact you should be THANKING me for posting this video because it documents how PEOPLE in general are treated by the VFD and VPD. If you took your head out of your ass long enough to see how many native people are there YOU CAN SEE there is only about 6 at most. There are MOSTLY white or other ethnic groups there TRYING TO PROTECT the sacred fire. So dont come on here with a narrow point of view and project shame on a person that stands up for natives.
HAHAHA, "sacred fire", my ass. what they lit was a Hobo Fire in an old drum. FYI: everyone who calls it a 'sacred flame' is getting laughed at. a lot.
Hahahaha judging from your comment, it is you who has their head up their ass.
I got this e-mailed to me, because it is one of the funniest things ever. Noone supports you or cares, most people are finding this video because its so embarrassing! I've sent it to all of my contacts haha.
Same middle class kids stirring up the poor and messed up they have attracted. Same dread chick instigating and other poser "activists". The FD warned 1hr before on livestream to put it out. Kiki rallied the angry regulars to defend it. Case closed,
They also have the blessing of the church and sanctuary which is a totally different situation. I have talked to 10+ east van FN and all say this is not worth a fight or $300. a week in wood while others starve nearby. Sad, could have been a small fire too. Too many UBC students living and feeding off emotions and social service industry promotion? Shame,
if you see multispecies comments skip them theyre just a reiteration from a wussy flip flopper at a free computer at the community center with no girlfriend
the comments multispecies said to the goof and bornagain contradict each other. "We" can only assume multispecies only posts to disagree with people. If you state your personal opinion this empty cell spams the page with an unremarkable reply where he steals your choice of words like a parrot. What a creative genius (eyes rolling)
multispecies you say things that are both for and against occupy. you are just trying to make yourself look sharp on the comments page regardless of the opinion. you are a youtube comment page whore. you look at your "comebacks" on comment pages and jackoff. your an empty cell with no soul as "everyone" would agree.
@mfyt4mp I'm not trying to present myself in anyway, I'm simply stating my opinion.I can see that you are trying and succeeding in making yourself look like an uneducated buffoon. Please show me the correlation of supporting and not supporting the occupy movement in making a reply to a humorous comment. The reason why your eyes are rolling is because you lack the fundamental brain power to remember to keep breathing. It is clear at one point in your life not enough oxygen has gotten 2 your brain
@mfyt4mp Maybe i should implement a program called walk into your home, slap you around, rape your wife, kill a couple of your children, sell all your shit to my buddies, and with the money buy a steak and lobster dinner every day at an expensive restaurant. When people complain about what i did might be a little wrong I'll give you a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I will still complain, because i gave you too much jelly on that PB&J sandwich. After all, i did make you that sandwich.
not a fan of pro- republican fox either. theyre still left but not as left as cnn. i always thought i was a liberal by default because im non-religious but i found that my personal views of self-reliance and responsiblity are not inline with the never ending need of "social justice" by the left.
multispecies: whats this "we" shit? cant speak for yourself? im being attacked but no one has any actual rebuttal anywhere. if you have nothing to say then shut your mouth
@mfyt4mp This "we shit" is the youtube community and my fellow commenters on the forum. It seems that you are living up to MY expectations.Good stuff pal =)
occupy is soooo courageous echoing the same message as cnn and obama. they are beacons of light on humanity. i wish one day i could have their wisdom |:
sorry i dont accept a bunch of lazy, self-righteous, wiseass losers trying to sell out all the middle class hard working taxpayers trying to make a living by demanding more taxes.
@mfyt4mp LOL.. I find it comical how you use the phrase "Self-righteous"..it is like you instantly forgot about the comment you posted a hour ago.I think we found our new village idiot who will replace @TheEslm55
left wingers never have any answers, their always busy being polite to someone they think theyre better than. occupy are true white-supremisists, the white liberal thinks we must help all crossgroups of society and abandoned our own interests. they feel guilty that they are white or that they are a trustfunder that never lifted a finger. thats the highest form of racism and sexism.
@mfyt4mp This is the third video i seen you mouthing off about "the white liberal".. I think you are just an angry lil man who is infuriated with the white people who do not agree with your political ideology. Maybe one of these days your wish will come true and we can all live in a totalitarian society where every man, woman and child share your point of view. You mad bro?
I thought this was an occupy vancouver protest? Now it's First Nation's rights, Save Iran, take your pick. There is no clear direction to it anymore. Vancouver Fire Bylaws state no open flame in public space. People were ok with this when the weather was warmer, now it's a lot colder and wet, and now people are getting upset about not having a fire? Hmmmm? Shocking.....
People, go home, leave the area and make something of yourselves instead of sitting around crying about nothing.
I can't believe all the derisive comments here. How about a little respect for other people's traditions? It's the same as if authorities barged in on a Catholic Mass and seized the blessed wine before communion, or if people praying in public were hauled away for "loitering."
Wouldn't some of YOU get upset at the 'desecration' of the American flag?
You can argue about how much civil disobedience is too much, but to scoff at a whole nation doesn't say good things about your character.
You actually equate a burning garbage pail, and the incoherent, booze/drug addled ramblings of some nitwit a reflection of some kind of tradition? - and you are equating that to s Mass assembly and flag desecration? - You are clearly drug addled yourself. Perhaps you should consider rehab.
@ScottLeaf Practices change over time, as with any culture. Do some churches not have speakers and microphones built in, even though those weren't there hundreds of years ago? Do we not have female pastors in some denominations, even though that would never have happened hundreds of years ago? It's not the materials or even the place that really count, but the ceremony involved.
@meadowlark27 Sure things change, we could use decroative parsley in place of Christmas Trees but we dont because it would be ridiculous. Calling a 40 gallon drum fire sacred is ridiculous especially given the location and circumstances.
@ScottLeaf You're right, using parsley would be ridiculous because that is an arbitrary change. People have weddings all over the place, wherever they want. They can pray in public, they can have sermons in public. these ceremonies don't lose their significance because of the setting or the circumstances, and neither does the sacred fire.
@ScottLeaf - C'mon man, get REAL. The container or even location a fire is in doesn't render it 'sacred' or even 'not sacred'. In addition, what the fire BURNS, the material that sustains it, isn't part of criteria that establishes whether it is sacred or not. Are you with me so far? It seems to me what has always distinguished a fire as being sacred or not, which relates to the tradition it extends from, is the spirit in which it is made and offered, eh?
@TheEslm55 The comment section WILL REMAIN OPEN for all to "vent" sir. I have nothing against native people. Im sorry hateful comments are being posted however it is a wake up call for humanity to educate themselves about the history of native culture. If I close the comment section of this video it would be hiding the REALITY of how SOME people feel about things in this world. My channel is about GIVING PEOPLE A VOICE. I do not have to agree with what they are saying. May the CREATOR walk U
@TheEslm55 Either you are drunk, illiterate, or are communicating in a language that is not English… most of your sentences are incoherent gibberish. Try using some periods and comas. And proof read a message before you send it. That may help in getting your point across. Just a helpful hint.
@TheEslm55 "you bastards only care about money" i am native you retard. The reason no one is responding to your pointless dribble is that fact that you might suffer from diminished capacity. Yes, i will throw my 2 cents i then fuck off because this is an internet forum, that is what it is designed for. If you cant take the racist comments then i suggest you quit the internet.
@TheEslm55 You wouldn't have to defend your poeple if they would just quit acting this way. Your land was taken hundreds of years ago,GET OVER IT!!! You let the europeans land, bad move but just the same you are a conquered people count yourselves lucky!
you are all a bunch of raciste,if you are not happy go back to europe pilgrim, and by the way or sacred fire ,is more then you will ever no,fuck all the wasicu, ill curse you all bunch of ignorent kids, thank for all the brainless comment, you just prouf that for the last 400yrs your are still a bunch of retard Consanguinity ppl (sick)
Last week you ‘Occu-tards’ tried to storm a ‘Sacred’ Catholic Church. This week you ‘Occu-tards’ were completely and utterly disrespectful at a ‘Sacred’ Church were the Mayoral Debate was happening. But O Ya, when the Fire Department puts out a dumpster fire that is 'totally un-called for'…. hahahha. You clowns are a joke. Total looser hypocrites.
Practice what you preach and maybe then the general population won't despise you, and just might take you serous.
Fine. Let them have their open fires. Apparently they have never seen how quickly a nylon tent goes up in flames from a spark. Just make it clear that the police or fire department won't be there to help when this happens.
@Lowebowski77 Unfortunately, they will be there, putting their lives on the line even for people who punch and bite them. And you know after the flames are put out, they will all be filing suit against the city, so they can win a good sum of money, buy a yacht, and then some good Wall Street stock options. That is what they are about.
it's time to go home occupy vancouver. I was all for the movement but the more I see the less I am. Native rights, Gay/lesbian rights, corporatisim, homelessness, etc. all these things need to be addressed but this is the wrong way to do it. Its become a muddled mess and only serves to further divide us instead of bringing us together. This "sacred" fire was put out for your safety, the VFD and police risked being mobbed to put it out. What would happen if the tents caught fire?
Fuck the cops in this city put up with a lot of shit. I commend them on their professionalism in this situation which had the potential to get very violent. That "movement" is now nothing but the low-lifes and scumbags of the city. Anyone with a cause has been bullied out by the druggies and toughs.
I am a native person so im going to set the record straight for all you fucken racist haters not all first nations or cowards or fucken drunk idiots ok maybe theres some bad apples but its like that in every race so stfu i go to university i dont drink. Yet you all judge every native person to be all the same.
@rainbow25238 Narrow-minded, black/ white thinking people cling to stereotypes - can't think for themselves. Very sad to read hate speech here. Hate-filled people Occupy Hatred of Diversity everywhere. Must be paid for trolling; consider it a "job" while lashing out, telling occupiers to "get a job"- most occupiers have a job & education. Ignore troll comments or you'll go crazy. Patience, my friend, until laws of karma take effect upon them. Karma = actions have consequences. Peace xo
ya it must really irk some ppl that they r FIST NATIONS and the song actually goes Oh Canada our home but really the Natives land lalala
I would really like to see someone come into your house and throw you and your family into your closet and tell you where to go and who to pray too what you can eat ect no one has really walked in there mocasins oh and ya I will take your kids and brainwash em in my church run schools and if I fondle them gee I hope you don't mind you know nothing Jon Snow
What a pathetic excuse for a protest. If you are going to protest, pick a cause worthy of fighting for, and worthy of sacrifice to win. A trash burn in an oil barrel just doesn't do it. You spent all your energy trying to bait the cops. Where was the message?
Canada is a backward country and most people act like rednecks. You don't feel like you live in a democratic country because the government can step all over you and most people here will just stay silent. Most people here do not really have a voice in the society needless to say first nation people.
A lesson to all you first nations and your sacred fire. Your problem is that the fire was too small, you've got to set fire to the entire continent, then they can't possibly put it out. That's the smart thing to do... Right?
Aw man, this sucks. I'm white, but I have a ton of respect for *some* native people. I worked for years for a boss who was native, first generation living off a reserve, and he was one of the best guys I ever knew. I know if I talked to him today, he'd say the folks in the video don't speak for him, nor most natives out there. Like any group of people, the majority are just people who try to get by, love their kids, etc. I hate what's happening in this vid, but native bashing doesn't help.
You can't just light fires wherever you want, call it sacred and not expect it to be put out. I mean really. I don't know what this protest is all about. So many protests now I can't even give a shit but this isn't how you get things done.
Gandhi didnt protest by attacking the police and breaking laws just for the heck of it ( sacred fire? really?) you guys should practice what you preach.
The Natives are being used as a race shield by the WHITE leaders this whole thing.
Go to any protest in Vancouver and it's the same thing over and over.
The WHITE well off college students, Poverty pimps, Anarchists and Trust fund babies playing dressup as hippies spouting the "Stolen native land. Salish nation territory" line.
Just like the Natives 200+ years ago, the tribes are being played against each other as the British and French colonists did for their own hidden agenda.

oceanrefusesnoriver 1 month ago
@oceanrefusesnoriver Rent is expensive... homes only go to those willing to work hard over the long haul, agreed. Some cannot work due to physical and/or mental infirmity... they need help from society. Those that basically "drop out" and expect taxpayers to support their lifestyle choices (many Occupy Squatters) no matter how damaging to themselves and society around them should be taught the mantra "you dont work (ie contribute) you dont eat". Necessity is the mother of invention.

What an embarassment.
huggnkissable 3 months ago 24
Okay..I was there, I am Ojibway, from the Anishnaabek Nation in Ontario and I too have questioned whether or not the fire in the oil drum was a "sacred" fire. I heard about the fire being lit earlier that day. they waited to have a "west coast" native be there to lite the fire because it is their traditional territory. Cultural protocol was followed as much as could be. the fact that it was in an oil drum is I believe now insignificant. there was only ever tobacco and prayers burned in the fire
nishknob 3 months ago
the "sacred" fire is only "sacred" because we treat it as such. other wise there is no difference between a "sacred" fire and a "camp" fire...I was there, and I experienced the fire as "sacred" because it was treated as such. I know what I know and I believe what I believe...it "WAS" a sacred fire
nishknob 3 months ago
@nishknob The Vancouver Fire Department simply dispensed some "sacred" water on that fire. I mean, to them, they experience water as "sacred". I happen to know that most firemen see water and fire retardent as being sacred to them. I also know alot of people that consider that land sacred to them, and watched it being desecrated by the occupy squatters. Thank goodness the police did not deploy any sacred pepper spray!

MrMarcbubba 3 months ago
Kim, the Mainstream media has NEVER told the truth, yours or mine. They sell newspapers. Occupy Squatters, youth or otherwise, do NOT put themselves on the "front line" for my rights. There are Veterans (my direct family and otherwise) who fought and many died for those rights so people like Occupy Squatters even have an opportunity to protest (for better or worse). Dont insult us all by saying those dread lock headed druggies and societal drop outs represent middle class Canadians.

This movement is fuelled by lies and propaganda, not by those who disagree with all this it does (and does not) stand for. Watch the videos... most of the occupy people act like animals at best. @MrMarcbubba Seach: POLL: 58% of Canadians support Occupy. One small incident does not sway public opinion. This movement is on every continent. As more people become aware of the atrocities that our global governments endorse on behalf of corporatism and private profits, the movement only grows.
kimhunter2 3 months ago
@kimhunter2 Kim, you say 58% of hardworking Canadians support Occupy?? You keep shouting that at yourselves through your corporate made mega-phone. What the public partially supports is idea that some corps could do some things differently, sure. They never supported the taxpayer supported Occupy Squat in our beautiful city. The stench coming from there, the mess/garbage. The drugs, assaults, death(s) and civil disobedience. The public and gov't patience is now VERY thin... be careful now!

I wish you all the best in your endeavours.
kimhunter2 3 months ago
@kimhunter2 Kim, and since you operate your life believing "facts only", let me educate you a bit regarding POLL results that you cling to so dearly.
Was this a "scientific poll?". When was it conducted? What were the questions (and were they unbiased). How big was the sample size? When poll taken, did pollsters understand the issues? What was the margin of error? Have pollsters opinions since changed or been influenced by other factors? Who is interpreting the results?
Fact Kim
MrMarcbubba 3 months ago
@kimhunter2 Kim, I checked the survey. A sample of 1200 people between Oct 20 and 24. 32% of respondents had not even heard of occupy. At that time, only 22.9% even supported the demonstration or felt there were valid views being expressed.
These are your "facts".
FACT: Your so called 99% have grown weary, tired and impatient of the truth behind the Occupy Squatters. Taxpayers are still cleaning up the garbage and stench. Resources are being wasted. Squatters, just go home.
MrMarcbubba 3 months ago
@MrMarcbubba No "trying" to do anything. Knowledge is power. Just presenting facts. If you really wanted to know the truth, you would be researching the facts instead of trying to discredit them with opinions.

But very few of the "99%" agree with Occupy's methods of civil disobedience and expense to hardworking honest taxpayers.

@ScottLeaf Practices change over time, as with any culture. Do some churches not have speakers and microphones built in, even though those weren't there hundreds of years ago? Do we not have female pastors in some denominations, even though that would never have happened hundreds of years ago? It's not the materials or even the place that really count, but the ceremony involved.
meadowlark27 3 months ago 2
@meadowlark27 Sure things change, we could use decroative parsley in place of Christmas Trees but we dont because it would be ridiculous. Calling a 40 gallon drum fire sacred is ridiculous especially given the location and circumstances.
ScottLeaf 3 months ago 3
This has been flagged as spam show
@ScottLeaf Ha ha ha...
MrMarcbubba 3 months ago
@ScottLeaf You're right, using parsley would be ridiculous because that is an arbitrary change. People have weddings all over the place, wherever they want. They can pray in public, they can have sermons in public. these ceremonies don't lose their significance because of the setting or the circumstances, and neither does the sacred fire.
meadowlark27 3 months ago 3
@ScottLeaf - C'mon man, get REAL. The container or even location a fire is in doesn't render it 'sacred' or even 'not sacred'. In addition, what the fire BURNS, the material that sustains it, isn't part of criteria that establishes whether it is sacred or not. Are you with me so far? It seems to me what has always distinguished a fire as being sacred or not, which relates to the tradition it extends from, is the spirit in which it is made and offered, eh?
But, WHY did Vancouver disallow it?

Police should be able to use the same tactics as 1960-70's protest control. Bunch a low lives

Peace xo

Occupy doesn't belong in Canada, and I'm a Canadian and support the movement.

What a pathetic excuse for a protest. If you are going to protest, pick a cause worthy of fighting for, and worthy of sacrifice to win. A trash burn in an oil barrel just doesn't do it. You spent all your energy trying to bait the cops. Where was the message?

This is a shame.
However I am loving the retarded comments.

Canada is a backward country and most people act like rednecks. You don't feel like you live in a democratic country because the government can step all over you and most people here will just stay silent. Most people here do not really have a voice in the society needless to say first nation people.
telecake 4 months ago
@telecake you think canada is backward and people here are rednecks? LOL you obviously *dont* live here.
420JimmyX 4 months ago
@telecake Bullshit, Canada has far more rights than other nations and is very democratic. Would you prefer to live in North Korea?

To be honest they are lucky they are here in Canada, try that in NYC and the cops would have been cracking skulls.

a sacred fire? Its a fucking rusted oil drum...... smh
jdbailey22 4 months ago

I hate what's happening in this vid, but native bashing doesn't help.
umdesch4 4 months ago
You can't just light fires wherever you want, call it sacred and not expect it to be put out. I mean really. I don't know what this protest is all about. So many protests now I can't even give a shit but this isn't how you get things done.
Kader0s 4 months ago
Gandhi didnt protest by attacking the police and breaking laws just for the heck of it ( sacred fire? really?) you guys should practice what you preach.
imnotdiddy 4 months ago
The Natives are being used as a race shield by the WHITE leaders this whole thing.
Go to any protest in Vancouver and it's the same thing over and over.
The WHITE well off college students, Poverty pimps, Anarchists and Trust fund babies playing dressup as hippies spouting the "Stolen native land. Salish nation territory" line.
Just like the Natives 200+ years ago, the tribes are being played against each other as the British and French colonists did for their own hidden agenda.
