is it possible to cast a spell for someone not even being in the same country as them let alone knowing them? i'm considering buying a santeria spell off ebay but it seems too good to be true if anyone could confirm before i potentially waste my money........but i do believe "generally" in this sort of thing!! ;-)
Ok, As a Santero "Lukumi" Priest, lets clarify all the mistakes here... This is a Palo Ceremony and Babalaos are Priest of IFA not "High Priest" of Santeria/Lukumi.... Ignorant as Usual in the medias eyes and not researched....
@Buddha52266 You may or may not be right. I do not know. But I do know that this film was made more than 20 years ago. If you are correct. I appreciate the information.
@allinaday Hi just wanted to let you know that what Buddha52266 is saying is correct. I am also an Orisha priest and will soon be a babalawo. For a good "Western" overview of the philosophy of Ifa & Orisha, I recommend the book "God is Not One" by Stephen Prothero. It does a good job of explaining the basic philosophy which is shared by Yoruba communities all over the world. And to reiterate the point that everyone else is making: This is a Palo ceremony which comes from the Congo region.
santeria has the good side and palo is the dark there is nothing wrong with that if u use the power for good and protection pepole got to understand there are different ranks in this religioun oggun los bendigan
@lilacetutorials Orisha worship is under the Ifa umbrella which comes from
the Yoruba people of Nigeria. Palo Mayombe is a tradition from the Congolese people of Central West Africa. During slavery in Cuba these different tribes were forced to intermarry and Palo and Orisha worship became part of the same tradition. However, pure Ifa/Orisha worship demands that you not do many of the things done in Palo. They are actually 2 different traditions that have been put under the Santeria umbrella.
Dear Oshun: I'm sure you are correct in your comments. Turner Broadcasting required a very "Americanized" version of every documentary made for them. I do hope you got something out of the sequence. Old filmmaking history for me.
@allinaday You are so right to question... I find that the BBC seems to fudge details in their docs... makes me wonder who's getting the real truth from any mainstream media... or if that's even possible.
Although what was said about Santeria is correct in this documentary, none of the imagary or music was of Santeria at all. The imagary and the music is from another Afro-Cuban tradition called "Palo Mayombe" Not related to Santeria. Santeria comes from the Yoruba people of Nigeria and Palo Mayombe comes from the Congo. The narration did not match what was being shown on the documentary.
This is palo mayogbe not a part of the lucumi teachings

Muy cierto, esto es tambor de 'Palo" nada que ver con Santeria ni con Ifa.
I agree with Buddah, this is about "palo" and has nothing to do With Santeria nor Ifa.
